I need to see the full I feel good test animation. I’ve commented this on other videos but I was incredibly scared of shrek the first time I saw the shrek 1 trailer. And this early version of shrek looks like the pure embodiment of my childhood fear and what shrek looked like to me in my child mind.

hearing shrek with no accent feels like being suddenly phased into a parallel universe that’s just different enough to make you supremely uncomfortable but not quite different enough to really scare you
i listened to dana carvey and david spade's two-part tribute to farley on their podcast where they talk to chris's close friends/family/colleagues and farley's youngest brother (who sounds a lot like him) revealed he was asked to finish up the movie but it was too soon for him. i'm glad mike myers fought for his version of shrek.
that being said, i love what i hear of farley as shrek. not sure how i feel about the animation - but i love the art style on paper. plus i love the idea of janeane garofalo as fiona.
also props to eddie murphy for spending 5+ years on this project and delivering absolute gold. i'm sure he had a contract and was getting paid handsomely but it seems like he really believed in the project

I don’t think it would be disrespectful to release the unfinished Farley version, I think it’s more disrespectful to act like it doesn’t exist, and ignore everything he actually did
Farley as an aside... We'd have to talk to the insiders from then and insiders now to see how far they got in the scrapped animations (it's likely that if the process of animating to the lines they had completed was too laborious at that point, DWSKG wouldn't have gone that far in animating it, considering that it was a project thought to be dead in the water.) And then if they actually still have the animations (which may be unlikely if they panned with executives/managers before Farley's passing). As much as it'd be a nice homage or nostalgia short, its 1. Not entirely profitable to those who worked on it and 2. Kinda weird to posthumously release in the case that they'd finished it, scrapped it, and released it 20ish years later with or without his family's approval.
I was just doing my monthly search on this and saw this was just posted! Hopefully we can bring more light onto it and finally see it get found or have the team release it

I NEED to see the Chris version, seriously...his Shrek is WAY more like the kind of character I love and relate to the most. HIS is who my beloved doll Glen reminds me of, just as much as Rocky Dennis. I already love the campfire scene animatic and all of his dialogue I've heard so far. And it's so awesome to see all of your previous videos on the subject all connected, I keep having to come back to watch it over and over because it's so interesting and well done, plus your voice is so great to listen to:):) But given it starred Chris Farley, it would've been something if David Spade was Donkey first, then replaced with Eddie when Mike was Shrek! I legit expected that to be the case when I first heard about that version...
I did read somewhere that Shrek and Donkey's dynamic was initally inspired by Chris Farley and David Spade's dynamic in other projects they did together. So you're definitely onto something there

Wrong DreamWorks, it's more disrespectful not releasing a project more than 80-90 percent completed. Farely would have wanted this out by now already.

I get an uneasy feeling seeing creepy Shrek at night
Every time I see the test footage, the better the designs look for me, but I've come to this conclusion. Shrek had to have that photo-realistic, pastel, fairy tale quality to the artwork. The technology wasn't quite there for something more stylized and bouncy, and it took them until Madagascar to attempt something like that. Redesigning the characters was the right choice at the time. Besides, once they started more cartoony designs and attempting to get that 2-D squash and stretch to work as 3-D models, they really ran with it.
I honestly would’ve loved Chris Farley as Shrek. I think the test animation had lots of charm, but yeah, the Shrek we got looked, and probably performed a lot better than Farley Shrek.
While it's a shame we never got to see the Chris version, the one we got was so iconic that I find it hard to imagine which one I would have liked more and how a full Chris Farley version of the character would compare. I tend to think I'd like either version overall, but Scottish Shrek is the Shrek the world needed to see.
Ironically if shrek was made now, it would very likely have gone with this more cartoonish/abstract style seeing how every film does now. I mean, when was the last cgi film to have realistically Proportioned humans?
I will go on a National Treasure-style hunt for the full lost Chris Farley test animation

Yeah, this was a compilation video of several other Shrek videos I've done so I do kind of repeat myself for context, cheers for feedback, though if I was doing this again from scratch, it will definitely be set up a much more differently

I think there's a good bit of interesting information here, but is this scripted? In addition to the same events being described multiple times, the grammar and syntax feel odd at times, almost like it was run through Google translate ("consumed a drug overdose" or "was a loose inspiration from this character" for example. If the videos are following a script, I'd recommend tighter editing, or doing multiple takes, if needed.
That said, I'm really interested in seeing future developments on this subject!
