I just figured this out too... Its not the car or the road. Its feeling like Im going to fail, fly all over the wide open road, kill myself and everyone, it feels unsafe, I feel far away from home, leaving my body, passing out, failing at not breathing right, not having control... The only way Ive been able to work thru fear, is having faith (Im not religious at all) but being rooted in this feeling of security - I imagine people who love me, I imagine all of the positive things outside my control that have always been in my favor despite my fear. I also forgive myself for feeling like I suck at something so basic as driving. I also dont drink caffeine or anything that will aid in physical dysregulation lol
@@lunaluxaz through constant practice I've been able to drive at 80 mph without panicking on a regular basic. But I prefer familiar highways and only 2 lanes. The multiple lanes freak me out lol. I feel like I disassociate easily if I'm over tired when driving.
i can barely drive on any roads at all for that reason, let alone the high way 😭 always afraid of being trapped, unable to switch lanes. seems every time i try no one will let me back over
@@mj-kd9uz hi. I understand what you are going through. Keep reminding yourself that you are out on the road. Your doing it. Try and think of something funny ,like a joke or a funny seen form a movie when you start to feel anxious.
The ironic part of this, is that I am aware about this feelings of fear, anxiety and the story in my head. However, I do not know how to work my brain around it 😔
@@maryannosness2279 , I know what you mean., I feel the same way.... I don`t even know what happened that caused my phobia because I drove for years and years on the streets as well as on the expressway without much thought... I have stayed off the expressway for the last several years now and mostly only drive mostly back streets whenever I do drive short distances from my house.
I think my fear is the cars around me, and lane changing. Never really had to do it. :/ oh yeah, and being in the far left lane when my exit comes up, and missing my exit and not knowing how to get back.
Cheers for the video content! Forgive me for butting in, I would love your opinion. Have you tried - Mahorrla Drive Remedy Method (should be on google have a look)? It is a smashing one off guide for getting rid of a driving anxiety minus the hard work. Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my m8 at very last got astronomical success with it.
I accept what a couple of others have written - definately more difficult than some people make out to overcome fear of driving. You should be aware of this and seek advice from experts. I looked many websites and found some good help by searching google on websites like Roys Quick Fix. I wish you luck and hope you succeed!
I thought I was alone in this. I am terrified of the freeway, I go everywhere by street. To top it off I'm moving 50 miles away and I'm going to have to transport my belongings , I don't know if I can handle it.
I'm in a permit driver and been practicing my driving skills in highways.. I feel so nervous at first but not to the extent that I panic etc... I was doing good in merging, changing lanes and passing in the left lane with a high speed..., not until that moment when I was merging and suddenly a car from my left side honked his/her horn (I'm really not sure what did I do wrong at that time😢) and I just saw the driver and passenger of that car did the FU at me , they looked angry and overtake me.... the day after that I started having anxiety and fear of driving in highways... my legs started to shake and have palpitations every time I think of going out there (highways only) especially in merging... By the way I'm immigrant ( for 4 months in this foreign country) so I was really kind of shocked when someone just FU'd me 😅 so I think that added up with my anxiety and fear that I might encounter someone like that again...
I have fear of interstate mostly because of the cars merging on my lane then I have to move to my left lane. Or sometimes I have this fear of going to the wrong exit and I'll get lost. If someone out there can make me feel good and back to driving. And I did drive to interstate by myself but each time I merge or someone merges on my lane I have this fear. How do I get rid of this fear? Drive more on interstate I guess...
I have exactly the same fear. I have health issues on top of this. My girlfriend lives almost 3 hours away and this fear of mine is gonna ruin the relationship. Being a guy with this fear is horrible. I'm a great driver on regular roads but highway fear is really upsetting.
@roadstomadness5319 I am so happy I am back to driving on the highways and interstate. For some I lost the fear. I pray every time. And in my head I would say "fuck it. I need to do this" I've been going everywhere now. I have the freedom now. I guess it's just the feeling in my head. But once Im in the highways and drive along with all the drivers and keeps my distance and just stay alert I am good. I hope you get to see your girlfriend. You can do it.
I have this bad and haven’t done a road trip in years and now have to drive a highway road trip tomorrow through 3 cities too. Could be schedule a session/call today? Worth a try
Gosh you are only one who gets me !!!£ yes I can drive loads just 3:37 not motorways & fast ARds ! I get panic attack & what to put on the brake & that’s dangerous part ! Help
My husband is a great driver but I’m still nervous especially around trucks. Even in the car with him. I’m getting ready next weekend. Don’t know what to do just scared
my town doesn't have a subway or train, or taxi, and I'm in no shape to bike over 25 miles. That's on me, but for longer distances highway driving is guaranteed where I live.
I was a long distance truck driver and now i take the back roads it's a terrible feeling when i want go to Pittsburgh Steelers football game from Akron Ohio and i have to have my wife drive until we get into Pittsburgh it's depressing also to ask friends drive to go out of town when sometimes i want just for me and my wife to just trip by ourselves 😢

Have you been able to drive on the freeway
This was such a good explanation of how it feels.

I can relate to this feeling... Thank you
Thank you Amy, I needed to hear this.
I rather take the back streets but it will take longer but at least I ain’t gotta deal with traffic
I can't drive on highways because I feel trapped/ isolated/ confined.
Do you think you might have claustrophobia? Have you ever had an MRI where you felt anxiety?

It’s all just anxiety, feeling like something bad will happen before you’ve even done anything
I totally agree with you I have the exact same problem those same issues, take care
Update: I have been on the free way a few times now. Wanted to take the kids to the zoo bad enough haha, we survived and it was fine lol
I don’t think it’s so much being on the freeway it’s the people around me is the feeling of being trapped between two cars gives me anxiety

Thank u so much❤

So helpful!
Thanks for the great for the video is it same as fear of traffic and being stuck in traffic ?
Pretty deep stuff from a pretty doctor, thank you so much! 🤗
This was very helpful! Thank you so much for this video!
subway, train, bus, taxi, bicycle, so many options, you dont really need to drive.
