The Orbea looks good but I have the Tcr and it's fantastic. It comes set up tubeless while you have to pay extra for the kit for the Orbea. I upgraded the crank to Ultegra, but even with the stock non-series one it was almost a kilo lighter than the Orbea, which weighs 9.5 without pedals, plus the giant has a full carbon fork and the colour looks really good in the flesh. Also the integrated cables for mechanical shifting don't sound like a great idea as all the tight bends might compromise shifting.
I just wanna share my warranty experience with Giant. My rear hub failed, took it back to the dealer, within 2 days the warranty was approved but the replacement wheel came 2 months later (I understand its the pandemic and production is slow). So overall i had an okay experience with them. I guess it depends from experience to experience.
Have to agree. I've got a raw carbon M20i Team and it is a beauty. The fulcrum wheels weren't the best, but having put some Zipps on now, it rides and responds so well. Good on the hills and with current set up, weights in at about 7.6Kg. Yep I realise mine cost more and has more carbon components, seat post bars etc, but the basic frame is the same. I hope you get to see and try one.
Pedaler, you overlooked the "consult other options" pull down menus on the Orca's spec table. There are several no-cost options (53/39 crank, 11-32 cassette, 0* offset seat post, different shape handlebars), as well as reasonably priced upgrade options like tubeless tires ($29 for your choice of 25c or 28c), FSA Powerbox Alloy power meter crankset ($549, your choice of 50/34 or 52/36), saddles (two upgrade options), and wheels (3 upgrade options, including Vision 40 SC carbon for $969). On top of that, Orbea lets you choose your crank length, stem length, and handlebar width at no charge. On higher end bikes ("Team" level on the Orca, which starts at $3499) you can even get MyO custom paint at no extra cost. These options really improve the value proposition of the Orca for many buyers. I've never bought a road bike that I didn't have to change out multiple components to get my preferred fit and suit my preferences. With the Orca, you have a much higher likelihood of getting a bike that suits you right out of the box. If nothing else, you can at least count on getting an Orca that fits you right out of the box, without having the expense and hassle of swapping out stems, handlebars, cranks (for length), or seat post (for offset). Orbea's dealer network in the USA is somewhat sparse, but worth seeking out. I currently have an Ordu and an Avant. The Orca M30 is very likely to be my next new bike.
Hey man, just wanted to thank you for this video. Helped me pull the trigger on the Orca M30 and I love it. Also just a note -- soon after I bought it, they increased the MSRP on the M30 to $2600. Thought that was super interesting, as I'm sure they realized they were giving way too good of a deal on these bikes.
I went for a bike fit to purchase a new bike, the company I went to (Potenza Cycle) in Ontario, Canada, recommended the Orbea Orca M30 OMR. Got the black one, but will still be a few months before I get it. I am no expert on cycling, but for my price range and hight/body size, the options were much better with this bike than the Bianci I was looking for. I am excited to get this...even though I believe it will arrive during the winter.
last week i had the chance to see an orbea orca omx for the first time, I was very impressed by the quality of this bike to the point that it made me change my mind
You mentioned it briefly, but to me the "million" dollar question is the quality of the frames on these two bikes. Everything on a bike can be replaced with better components. But if the frame is not up to snuff, you're screwed. I agree with everything you say in the video about components. And the look of Orbea's cockpit blows the Giant's out of the water. But Giant frames have a pretty good reputation as they make their own frames and have good control over production and QC. Without having more detailed information about the Orbea frame and Orbea's QC reputation for its frames, I don't think we're in the position to make a final decision about these two bikes.
Agree with your points, in general majority of carbon frames are pretty much the same. After riding 100’s of bikes overall experiences are pretty much identical other than slight changes. I’ve seen my fair share of manufacture defects with Giants and other brands. I will be doing more research with Orbea and their production and QC as I’m intrigued. So stay tune for that. Appreciate you sharing your knowledge :)
Orbea offers a lifetime warranty on their frames and forks. They have a great reputation in Europe as well. According to my LBS they are just as good quality wise from all the major brands. Just my 2 cents.
@@Pedaler A revealing area for frame quality seems to be the bottom bracket. Out of round and out of alignment bottom bracket shells should not get through final inspection on a multi-thousand dollar carbon frame. But they do. There's just no excuse for that and even with warrantee coverage such lack of QC is a complete hassle the customer...more so if the manufacturer does not stand strong behind their warrantee. BTW, I have nothing against Orbea. I think all these bike manufacturers deserve a critical and sharp eye when evaluating their products. Especially the components that can hide behind the shiny and sexy kit that easily attract one's eye. Keep up the good work. Next stop, 10,000 subscribers!!!!
You have a plethora of options with the Orbea. You can upgrade the wheels, crank, tires , handlebars and more. Other than the Scott addict RC 40 which isn’t available in North America I don’t believe there is a better deal for a carbon road bike. Plus once you step up in the Orca lineup you have even more options with Orbea MyO. Orbea is killing it I wish they got more love than they do. The Orbea also has lifetime warranty on the frame and fork.
great comparison, I've been debating this issue for a couple of days and set a comparison graph and came up with the same conclusion. The fact that I plan to do a race with 10000ft climb is why I am choosing to go with the emonda sl6 pro. I agree that if a cyclist is merely riding for fun and does an occasional climb then the sl5 is the more practical choice. As for me, I want a bike that is efficient enough to get me up Mt Haleakala on the island of Maui and keep me competitive when the triathlon bike course involves more climbing. I so glad I stumbled on your videos.
Well, I am old and wise enough to not overpay for bikes after all my years of riding and the recent INSANITY of bike prices. BUT, I just picked up the ORBEA M20 with Ultegra at a LBS on sale for $3k. The geometry on the ORBEA is more endurance oriented which I need as a 52 year old. All disc bikes are HEAVY compared to rim brake unless you want to pay over $10K to get a 56cm complete with pedals, cages and mount under 17 lbs. My Focus Cayo Evo Di2 from 2015 in a 56cm weighs 17lbs complete with pedals, cages and mount. Orbea with the stock wheels is about 3 lbs heavier for a 2022 model. I need comfort at my age and a new set of wheels will knock 2 lbs off but it will still weigh more than my rim brake bikes. I am not going to pay $12k for a disc brake Di2 bike that gets me under 17 lbs. Insanity.
Also, Orbea is a workers' cooperative with better wage parity between execs and workers. I'd buy that over the Giant for that fact alone but I also think it's the better value proposition.
I'm very interested in the Orbea Orca M30. I know you just compared it here, but please do a comparison video between the Orbea Orca M30 and the Specialized Allez Sprint Comp Disc. It's aluminum Vs Carbon, but sometimes it's worth saving the money and getting aluminum with better components.
My dillema exactly, so i had to subscribe this time! The bikes r so close but... There is a difference in the cranks (as you mentioned) so difference in gearing. The orca comes with the oc handlebar (something you can change for a racier one upon order) which makes it closer to an endurance geo. There is a 35mm tire clearance on the orbea. Plus, if you check the actual weights, the orbea comes in about 1050 for a painted 53 frame. Not heavy for the price point. So there u have it... It seems i ve made my mind up... There is a chance u can get a better price for the tcr though...
@@sharkofthecovenant the cf sl endurace would end weighting about the same with the m30. I just bought an Orbea Orca M30. I like the bike a lot. Its fast great handling. The weight surprised me though. With clip in paddles it weighed 9.6 kilos at size 55. Is that good or bad?
Orbea has a confusing structure to their lineup. I think I could figure it out, but I never took the time. M20i - M30 - M10 Team ... The pricing doesn't help and there's a huge amount of options.
Orcas are broken down in tiers. Models with LTD use the top tier OMX carbon frame. All others use the OMR carbon layup. Team models have a full carbon steerer and fork. Models with e are SRAM Etap models with i are DI2. The lower the number the lower the spec with the exception of the m25team. That one has carbon wheels over the M20team. Hope this helps.
I have TCR and have been wanting to upgrade. I've been looking at the Orca and comparing it online. I was excited when I saw your exact comparison. However you lost me when you said you've never actually seen this bike. I was hoping for more than just comparing comparing stat sheets, I can do that. When you looked at the seat post clamp and said: "it looks like"...I knew you had no idea and were just guessing. You are thorough but the review was not as helpful as I hoped.

Orbea warranty is worse than giant for sure , I had a orbea avant and a manager of a bike shop cracked my top tube so he said that he will send my frame for warranty replacement and they said that I had a couriers box on the back of my bike of that I been cycling with someone on the top tube and never gave me a new frame plus sent my frame back with bits missing , I work for Giant and I have had 3 warranty frame replacement due to bottom bracket cracking from too many watts , so do not get a orbea if you want good customer service
