Batman Arkham Asylum was released, and I covered it in another video on my channel. My overall thoughts were that It had a great atmosphere, combat, stealth, and a pretty decent story. Arkham City was released a few years later. It did a fantastic job building upon the foundation set in Arkham Asylum. I had planned to make a video on Arkham City a few months ago. However, my 40 hours of footage got corrupted, and I basically rage quit the video. Arkham Origins came out, and many of you did not like it and felt it didn't do much to improve on the Arkham formula. Arkham Origins was developed by Warner Brothers Montreal. It was meant to be a sort of filler game while rocksteady, the developers who created both Arkham asylum and City, were working on the grand finale to the Arkham series, Arkham Knight.
Now there are a lot of criticisms people have with the game. I want to clarify that while this is a defence, and while a lot of people have strong opinions on the flaws of the game, they didn't say that the game was terrible, well, most of them didn't. The general consensus was the game wasn't the Arkham Swansong that they were expecting, and due to multiple reasons, which I will get into, they felt disappointed. I personally feel like this is the perfect Batman game, and on top of that, I think it is the only Batman game that truly lives up to the series tagline of "Be the batman."
I want to address every criticism that people have made against this game, and while some of them are valid, others I am confident I can reasonably counter. Of course, there is an element of subjectivity to all of this, so I don't think you're wrong if you didn't enjoy Arkham Knight and you are entitled to that opinion just as much as everyone else so please be civil in the comments. I also want to clearly state that I am playing this on a PS4 Pro.
I must clarify that, like always, there will be spoilers ahead. The game came out five years ago now, and if you haven't played it, I implore you to give it a shot as it's quite cheap now. A lot of this video is going to be going on the assumption that you have played at least one Arkham game. Hence, if you haven't played any of them, stop the video and give it a shot. Игры

@@Ncholasbloom And they did tease the Bat-mobile, which makes me think that Batman will show up without being mind-controlled.
Funny how the Arkham game acknowledged the DCEU stuff outside of Gotham (Superman and Lex Luthor), but left enough space to explore that. I think Suicide Squad will take advantage of that so they can build a DCEU that's different from Arkham, THEN bring Batman in to connect it all.

@@nortonman1178 Really? Checkout all the billboards towards the end of the game it's a majority. You have to go on foot really because when you move the camera away and the pictures turn back to normal. Maybe the quick flashes in the Batmobile are the point, though. To make you feel like you're losing it. I did the first time because it was quite an obscure one with some woman only haha Also, yeah I only ran down one random joker in the street towards the end. Also I think they disappear after a while in prison
38:44 This is the one plot point that people have a problem with that I love. Batman getting rid of his fear for joker by locking him away in his mind makes complete sense for the character. He’s trained his mind extensively to the point where he can control it like any other muscle, which was previously bogged down by the fear toxin and his fear of turning into the joker, but once he realises Joker’s worst fear is being forgotten, he realises he can just “forget” him. This may seem stupid at first but many things in life are like this. A small shift in perspective is sometimes able to cure the worst cases of anxiety or depression, though these shifts in perspective are extremely difficult to come by and aren’t simply a conscious act one can make. You need to develop a deep understanding of whatever is giving you said anxiety/depression, because once you understand something, it’s easier to manage. It’s suddenly not so “scary”. Hence Batman is able to overcome his greatest fear in the same manner. The perspective shift itself is quick, but getting there takes ages, deep reflection, and understanding.
To support my stance, there’s a moment in a Batman comic where his mind is attacked and essentially paralysed, but he ends up being fine because he locked a portion of his mind away in a corner of his mind…? Essentially he created a backup of his consciousness within his subconscious. And he didn’t do this because of the attack, he had simply done it years prior just in case something like this happened, because he’s Batman! So to me I don’t think it’s far fetched to do the same thing with the Joker, considering that the Joker in this instance is a mental construction. I can’t remember the name of the comic so if you do please share!

This game was incredible in 2015 and it literally looks like it could’ve been released yesterday. Incredible gameplay, graphics, detail, story. It’s better than Arkham City in a lot of ways. I don’t think it’s possible to make a better Batman game.
it was amazing, one thing i would add though is the option to make knightmare an option in new game +, as much hand-to-hand as there is batmobile combat, ans honestly, a good guide to the combat; im fairly new to the series so hand to hand is not easy to me by any means, its so easy to not even know what things are possible when fighting and even though i got by in the regular story, now i have to do it again in new game + with knightmare difficulty which you cant take off. there are just minor things that could be easily changed if rocksteady cared.

38:35 He didn't cure himself of the Joker virus outta nowhere, he used the fear toxin in his bloodstream to his advantage. Joker even says, "You and your fear toxin!"

@@jonbodhi I never got the hate of the batmobile. I actually thought the tank combat was extremely engaging for how simple it is. I personally like the Batmobile in this game, but I can understand why people don’t like it. When people talk about it however, they only mention the tank battles. Nobody talks about how good the normal batmobile is. One of my favorite missions was hunting down the militia APCs using the normal batmobile because it was much more fast paced than the tank. I wish they used that a bit more over the tanks but the tank battles were still fun.

He wasn't lame, you just focus on negatives.
In regards to how Batman cured himself of the joker virus by locking him away, it's definitely stupid, but it kinda works in this franchise. They've always written Batman as something almost supernatural, barely human. Not only is he always an insanely competent badass, they've always made a point of his mental fortitude. In the first game he was given enough fear toxin to drive ten men insane and was relatively fine. Same goes for this game, he's given absolutely insane amounts of the stuff and always maintains his sanity. In knight it seems like the fear toxin actively makes joker more present and in control as Batman slips. However, in the end Batman always comes out on top, always prevails even in the face of unbridled madness, because he is sheer will power personified into a man. Rocksteady has known since the beginning Batman is more than a man, a myth, legend, he's the goddamn Batman. I know it's cliche, but I feel like they're the only ones that can really pull off a "because I'm Batman" and it actually work for me. "I am the knight, I am vengeance, I am BATMAN." Just sounds so right from Kevin Conroy.
Well Bruce’s mind is already broken so I think it makes sense that Batman locking joker away/immune to the toxin works
If this is basically quincefeld yakob disease, which can be cured with will power so it makes perfect sense to me
@@existing5442 Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease can't be cured, is that what you're talking about? I don't know what else you could be referring to
Well what would've happened is Batman slowly becoming Joker himself, rather than an alternate personality. The fear toxin however, makes Batmans now greatest fear come true, that being becoming Joker while being unable to stop himself from killing his friends, that's why it makes Joker an alternate personality.
im a fan of the theory that the demons blood almost completely cures him, and the jokers manifestation is purely fear toxin induced, we can see that it lasts a while and batman takes several doses, hes gonna be seeing things, as for the physical manifestations like the eye color change, i have no idea

The Perfect Crime side mission is one of the best side missions I’ve ever played through in a video game. Everything about it was perfect. It fit right in to the games theme and incorporated some of the best parts of the Arkham verse. Not to mention that Professor Pig is a very unique and cool villain. It was a side mission that wasn’t too long and wasn’t too short and as you kept investigating the bodies around Gotham you kept wanting to know more. Literally every question about the supposed realism of Arkham Knight is explained in story:
1) They're drones rather than manned because Arkham Knight doesn't want Batman to hold back.
2) The military/Superman CAN'T intervene because the Arkham Knight placed a bunch mines around the city which he would detonate upon the slightest hint of outside intervention. That's like asking why the military didn't invade Gotham and take Bane's men down in The Dark Knight Rises. It's literally explained, because BANE HAS A NUKE.

In defense, you mostly used the batmobile in a way that Batman has not. It was constant drone stuff. When has the batmobile ever been used like that?
Fair point. I imagine Rocksteady was trying to give people as much Batmobile fantasy as possible. Batmobile combat was their answer.
@@Danbo22987 in the dark night returns the bat mobile is like a tank
I think there are too many tank boss fights , and to be fair the tank mechanics are well designed and whilst there are a lot in the game they don't take long to complete and aren't too hard. People greatly exaggerate the amount of batmobile in the game and the game never forces its use in free roam either
@@anotherhappylanding4746 yeah I'm replaying it right now and I'm not finding it as annoying as I did the first time around.
Killing drones is kinda boring and probably the worst part of the Batmobile for me.
Chasing Firefly or the trucks is not that bad. I found out that the Batmobile can drive on tunnel walls because I was in a chase mission. Not super fun missions but they do have a sense of Batman chase scenes, and the map is so well designed that you can take so many routes and keep up with your target.
I used to hate using the batmobile and just flew around but now I kinda enjoy drifting around and launching batman out.
The puzzles are actually not that bad either, using the batmobile to either pull stuff or power it up
edit: actually the worst part isnt the drones, its the Deathstroke boss fight. Its extra bad if you played Origins where the boss fight there was amazing.

I’m a collector so acquiring all the riddler trophies and solving puzzles was a personal challenge for me. I didn’t mind them but I wouldn’t do it again. Great review. Gotham Knights is around the corner so let’s hope it can honor the late Arkham series.
I loved it since 2015, I felt it’s one of the best and the most fun of the games because of how smooth and more advanced the combat is.
I said a while ago, around when the game came out and everyone was pissed off, that the Arkham Knight should’ve been Damien Wayne. If you wanted to bring in Jason, sure, Gotham’s gone to shit and could use some Red Hood sequences to do some dirty work that Batman wouldn’t.
But as bratty, pissed off and high strung as the Knight is, as skilled as he’s supposed to be, his age, and his sudden appearance could have made a great Damien intro (an older Damien but still, this game is a few years after City and who knows when Bruce and Talia hooked up, it was hinted that they had already done their thing during City).
So he comes looking for the Bat to avenge his mother from the events of City, it escapes my mind now how exactly she dies but I remember thinking Batman could’ve been blamed or seen as her killer.
Give him swords instead of guns, give him an awesome adaptive final boss fight like Mr Freeze like you were saying, sprinkle in the Jason Todd flashbacks to throw people off and have that Red Herring (no pun intended) but then suddenly during one of the side quests you’re tracking a vigilante killing criminals and it’s Red Hood, who fights you in his own boss fight and later you find out his identity and he comes back later to help out.
Then at the end you have the big reveal of Damien and Bruce’s shock he had a son with Talia. They sort of come to terms since Scarecrow wants to kill his father and when Bruce dies Damien takes up the Cowl and becomes that terrifying version of Batman at the end.
Goddamn! I want this so much. A Damien revenge story would have been great.
Arkham Knight is 8 months after Arkham City. I like the idea to bring in Damien but no. The Arkham Knight was perfect for Jason
Now just imagine if the next Batman game that is coming out for PS5 is about “The Robin War” from the comics. It took place after Batman supposedly died while fighting the Joker one on one under Gotham City, and Batman basically told the Joker that no one is going back up to the surface, If it takes my death to stop you then so be it. It was a crazy awesome story arc too, Duke’s parents lost their minds and went insane because of Joker’s nasty New and Improved “Joker Toxin” as Joker unleashed it and spread it all throughout Gotham City. It’s hard to explain the entire story here in this comment section, but that story arc was awesome and it led to an even greater story arc with the “Robin War”. All the Robins and members of the Bat Family were dealing with the loss of Batman/Bruce Wayne, and what their plan was going to be going forward to protect Gotham City. That basically meant that all the Robins ended up challenging each other on who was the best choice to take up the mantle of “Batman” in the wake of Bruce’s death/disappearance. They also had to still deal with some of the Villains throughout the story arc too, it’s just a damn good story. I suggest that Batman fans check it out, or first timers that are learning more and more about Batman, Gotham City or the villains. Everyone will enjoy that comic story.
Bruce Wayne is only in his 12th year of being batman in this game, so that would be impossible
It does a lot more justice to BOTH characters. Plus it’s just much more badass. Thanks bro!

“That’s what you taught me. Do the right thing. That’s all that matters”
And this game got me
As some one who really enjoyed Arkham Knight, thank you for this video. The game has it's issues, but it does stand tall with it's other Arkham brothers.
This game had the greatest intro to a game over ever seen. Before you say city or asylum hear me out. Why was asylum a great intro? It was cinematic. Why was city a great intro? It throws you right in the game. Now why is knight a good intro? It does all of that + it has many layers of symbolism. Imma go part for part in the intro and explain how amazing it is
1. Burning joker. When you play the first time it's very creepy and sets the mood. It's a dead joker and you get to see him burn. Very unsettling. Now after you finish the game you notice how many layers this has. First of all "I got you under my skin" by frank Sinatra is playing. A PERFECT song for this game, but also the light hearted jazz contrasts so well with the creepy atmosphere. After you burn joker it cuts to a burning bat symbol. This ties with the song and the game where joker is inside batman. Joker being burned is also batman being burned. To end it all Gordon says "this is how the Batman died" after you burn joker. Do you see the symbolism in the first minute? Also deep foreshadowing.
2. The Diner. This is the cinematic part that makes these games amazing. But also that diner (like other cinematics in Arkham games) gets better on replays. On the fridge there's a picture of Henry Adams as a missing person. The other people batman kidnapped are on the newspapers but they are together while he is by himself bc he's the only one of them that truly became the joker. Up on the fridge there's a jack-o'-lantern, the symbol is scarecrow. Mind you there's one of two so it can't be coincidence. The other jack-o'-lantern is next to the guy that sprays the fear toxin. He also has the anarchy symbol which could be the Arkham knights. There's also a scarecrow, with 6 bats, and 2 ghosts revolving around 2 sources of lights. Scarecrow is obvious, 6 bats are the bat family, 2 ghosts are the 2 characters we think died. The 2 sources of light can be the 2 major instances where you have to stop the fear gas. There's also a vine entangled which could be poison ivy. This is foreshadowing inside foreshadowing
3. The scarecrow scene explains the premise of the game, clearly being fear, shows you some bad guys you'll be catching, the camera pans out then Batman is revealed on top of a anarchy ruled Gotham city and that's it! You're thrown right into the game!
This game had the perfect intro. Sets up the story, introduces important elements of the story, including the main theme and has soooo many details that you only catch on replays. From the music chosen, to the actual details of the scenery this game did it all and applied both forms of intros, that we saw in the other Arkham games. Literally doesn't get better than that
That counter bonus, the throw is just from holding directional towards them while countering.
Fun fact it's not just signs that get jokerfied but statues too
Really? Which ones?
@@aliwahab1255 I know those big bronze statues (I think on founders island) will have joker heads on them at certain points. But it's hard to catch because you typically fly by them when you notice and then turn around to see them normal again.
Yeah you can see it at 4:40
@@therealjoker6706 theres statues on miagami island too
Sometimes thugs too!!! Rare, but it happens!
one of the parts of the story that really made me think was at the beginning after saving Ivy. That huge Batmobile, the "we're going to war" line, and his basically Iron Man armor. It felt like he was a different character, and he was too extreme. Then I realized, it's because his career is ending. Not because he's dying, or overwhelmed, or just too old like most fallen heroes. Instead, it's because he knows his methods aren't extreme enough anymore, and the Batman that was defending Gotham no longer has what it takes to defend the city. Which is the exact point he makes after saving cat woman.
"Gotham needs something *worse*"
@Matt Mercer's Stunt Double technically you did that, batman didn't seeing as you had control of him and its only during the game play and no cutscene, its like in the other games when you can hit people off of buildings it wasnt intended but people playing the game still did it
@@eziospaghettiauditore8369 naw not really, the cutscenes are the things that actually happen and the actual story missions but everything inbetween those cutscene and story missions arent "canon" that's all what you want to do and even in story missions the only things that are 100% Canon is that you completed that story mission cause that's the only thing that corresponds between everyone's Games since everyone usually does things differently and gets the mission done somewhat different its only the fact that you completed that is "Canon"
@@eziospaghettiauditore8369 See you are arguing something entirely different what I am saying is Everything in game play is not Canon since people all play and approach things differently so using certain uses of game play mechanics for example hitting someone with the batmobile can't be used against batman since someone else probably didn't hit that person so it's non Canon If it's in a cutscense than it's Canon, like when batman picked up the Gun, simple enough?
@@eziospaghettiauditore8369 Also the whole excuse against batman dying to being hit by a car and dying vs a thug for 1. Doesn't matter as I said It's different for everyone I'm sure someone out there never hit anyone with a car and someone hit everyone so it's non Canon since it's free to the player just cause it's an option doesn't mean batman did it in Canon, for example In the Arkham games it assumes you always 100% complete the pervious cause that's the Canon ending which is why the villains like riddler are always captured in the next game even if you didn't catch him cause the game assumes you did, Same thing is happening here you see? And 2. If you want an in Canon reason it's cause batman car is outlined with a Electric field thing so anyone that gets close doesn't get hit by the actual car they get Tazed out of the way so batman doesn't hit anyone with the actual car while Batman does get hit by cars the thugs technically don't and are just shoved aside
it actually explains how riddler captured catwoman in the tapes you get when collecting riddler trophies
The only ending to the Arkhamverse.
I'd like to say, since you pointed out that this one has some horror elements. I had heard of Pyg, but I no doubt expected him in this game. So when I went into that salon and heard that classical music, not knowing what I was walking into, I felt genuine anxiety and fear. And when I couldn't combo knock the painless gremlins out, I also started to freak out until what I actually knew what to do. Even knowing you could respawn at death, I genuinely did not want to die at this part.
I still stand by my opinion that the Arkham Knight should have been Damien Wayne. His motivation would've been to avenge his mother, because He believes it was Batman's fault. Be chooses the Arkham Knight persona because he wants to prey on Batman's feelings of failure in Arkham City. It is possible that Damien would exist because in the comics his growth is accelerated and we know already that Batman and Talia had that "night shared in Metropolis". It would've been an interesting dynamic of Batman facing his failures and fighting with his own family
Couple holes in that:
For starters, Batman has only existed for about 12 years in this continuity; at the most, Damian would be 10. 7 at the very least. The Arkham Knight is in his 20s... You see how that doesn't add up?
Then there's the Red Hood...why would Jason just murder Damian out of nowhere? I can understand why he'd try to kill him if they interacted beforehand...but if they never knew each other in this continuity...it makes ZERO sense for Jason to murder Damian
@@Devils_Lair_Comics addressing your point that I brought to the table, in the comics Damien's aging is already dramatically sped up, so speeding it up to where he is 20ish within 4 years or so is too much of a stretch and it would explain the Arkham Knight's childish and irratic behavior
NightwingPlaysGamez I get what your saying and I like the idea but it’s still too unrealistic for Damien to be Arkham Knight, even with the sped up growth. If anything Damien would be good as a side mission, where he wants revenge.
