Do practice Friday morning, sprint quali Friday night, then sprint Saturday morning, but they can change their cars all the way until race Quali starts on Saturday afternoon. That way the sprint would be different than the race, because people could fix their setups or adjust them for the sprint/race.

Simple solution: introduce sprint racing as a 'Relay race'. 10 cars start, drive 1/3 grand prix distance, they then 'pass the baton' in the pits, second car from each team then start from the pit lane then race another 1/3rd race distance to finish the race.
