      his. knees were shot he wasn't making important tackles anymore his speed had gone down considerably.the pace of the Premiership was to much for him so he took the decision to go down a notch to a much slower league..the fact he scored a lot of important goals for us gets forgotten.. That’s not even accurate. He BECAME a solid defender, but for his first two years at the club he was hopeless! I remember wanting him out in the first two seasons along with many other Arsenal fans. He cost us seven games in that second season through mistimed tackles, bad runs and lack of knowledge of the game. He was a liability and was lucky to be picked at the end of that second season. He did however turn it around and proved me wrong, by becoming our captain and a rock at the back. He also however, did ruin his legacy with his antics to leave and that stupid stunt with the shirt was disgusting and a stupid thing to do.

    I believe he had a gentleman's agreement that he could leave before the end of his contract. He agreed to stay a bit longer due to defensive injuries but Arsenal's defensive plight did not get any better when the deferred leaving date came up, and they wanted him to fulfil the rest of his contract term. His heart was set on returning to his hometown club in France to finish his playing days and stuck to his guns with this antic. The club let him go, but unfortunately, an icon of the club disappeared acrimoniously out the side door without the plaudits he would normally have received for his services.

  • @MRBp2024
    @MRBp2024 Год назад +20

    The story is not entirely accurate.
    Arsenal did not want to sell Koscielny whatsoever.
    Koscielny was Arsenal main CB & captain, he still had his pace & was playing well prior to Europa final.
    He however was the one who wanted a move away, Arsenal denied a move telling him to join Preseason squad.
    He then tried force a move by refusing to go on tour, that led to him being disciplined, kept at home and sold.
    Arsenal had no plans to sell the club captain, the breakup was messy.
    He then did that Bordeaux video to make things even worse.
    Remember Koscielny last ever game was the Europa League final where he put up a 2nd half disasterclass, embarassing performance.
    Should have been sold for that alone, instead Arsenal willing to still have him despite being older.
    After his situation Arsenal then immediately signed Saliba for 27m as Koscielny long term replacement (loaned back) and then signed David Luiz short term for 8m.
    Luiz helped Arsenal win FA Cup & Saliba prior to injury almost helped Arsenal win PL.
    So his sale worked out well for Arsenal, while his legacy was destroyed beyond repair.

Real Madrid and Bayern wanted him consistently and he still chose to stay with Arsenal. He decided to move on because he didn't want to play for Emery and the new board and he was 34 I believe. Are these not the same commentators/ex pros who picked Arsenal to finish 6th this past season?

    Let's also not forget that his announcement video would have been choreographed (cringe) by Bordeaux so he was just doing as he was told. Back then you didn't get as many kids whining over something like that

    At least he didn’t stay, draw a huge salary and says he’s a cool captain? Just like auba, their legacies were never ruined, it’s just mostly normal for players to leave their clubs at a below than desirable situation. How often are break ups beautifully done?
