    I find it hard to believe you spend 5x more in the winter than in the summer unless you're greatly increasing the miles you drive. I live in Massachusetts (Northern US) and have had a Model 3 for over 5 years now and I'd say for me it's about 30% more in the winter than the summer given the same mileage. Not sure about the situation in Quebec but another way to mitigate the cost of charging is to use 3rd party level 2 chargers that are slower but often free. As for the tires, don't buy rims and tires all over again when you only need tires.

    • @mr.wizeguy8995
      @mr.wizeguy8995 8 месяцев назад +1

      It could be easily be true. If you drive really short distances at winter and lots of time between them your consumption is much higher. If your trips last at least 30 - 45 min then difference to summer time isn't so huge.

      ev is overrated, winter also affects battery life

    • @eric5280
      @eric5280 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@mr.wizeguy8995 He's saying 5X! That would mean if he got 300 miles on a full charge in the summer he's only getting 60 in the winter. Ain't no way And if he did, then he would experience similar results with an ICE car. I agree it's much higher in the winter but can't be 5X more unless he's doing something significantly different in the winter or is leaving his heat on all the time.

      @@eric5280 Just watched other video where Tesla owner said his range is 50% less compared to summer. So in this video he said 1 or 2 charge at summer time and now winter 5 times. it might be a bit stretch but 4 charge for winter with similar drive could be easily true.

    • @eric5280
      @eric5280 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@mr.wizeguy8995 I could see 50% increase in the extreme but not 5x. If 4-5 charges per month is normal for winter, 1x per month in the summer is not reasonable if the drives are similar. As I said before, I've had a model 3 over 5 years now so I don't really need a 3rd party account of what the difference between winter and summer impact.

    Wow that's a lot of misinformation.
    It doesn't take 1 hour to charge at a Supercharger. Precondition the battery, choose a faster Supercharger (not the 70 kW ones), and charge to 80% and you'll be out in 20 minutes or less.
    It takes about 30%-40% more energy in the winter vs summer. That is not 500% as you claim.
    Tires are slightly more expensive for heavy EVs, but less than light duty truck tires. Rims aren't more expensive for EVs.
    Tesla uses a standard Nema 10-50 outlet. The same as your stove. Can be very inexpensive to install but the big variable is ease of wiring from your panel to the outlet location.

      yes it take 20min to 80%. but u only add170miles cost around $15. more expense than prius

    I don't have a tesla, but I do have a level 2 home charger. And it's great. I also have a solar, so everything works out great. I installed a nema 14-50 plug and plug in my 32w charger. The next charger i get later will be a hard-wired one. Maybe an enphase one that works with my solar panels, and I eventually could power my home in the event of a power loss at the home, too. But I knew about all the other stuff.

    • @HowToKeepMore
      @HowToKeepMore  8 месяцев назад

      That's awesome thanks for sharing, yes solar power would be great and being self sufficient with electricity would be great. Do you have the solar power panel from Tesla?

    • @shane250
      @shane250 8 месяцев назад

      @@HowToKeepMore
      DON'T get solar in Quebec! The panels don't last more than 10 years, and the snow will block them 5 months a year.

    Sounds like they get to g you on tires.. why would you need new rims just for the summer? You going through tires like that? You know they make all season tires correct?

    • @mhcmhcmhc
      @mhcmhcmhc 8 месяцев назад +1

      In Quebec, they are required to use winter tires from December to March of the following year. It's easier to just have two sets of tires and switch them for the appropriate season.

    • @HowToKeepMore
      @HowToKeepMore  8 месяцев назад

      We can't use all season tires in the winter, they must be winters or we get fined. These rims are 19 inches but the 18 inches are standard and easier to find tires that are at a lower price.

  • @shane250
    @shane250 8 месяцев назад +1

    Dude. Quebec has the lowest hydro rates in Canada. You'll pay $8-$12 for a full charge at home.
    You forgot insurance. It's more expensive on an EV. About 35% more expensive compared to the same price ICE sedan.

    • @JacksonWalter735
      @JacksonWalter735 8 месяцев назад +1

      It depends on the EV. My Volkswagen ID.4 cost $22 USD less per month than my gf's '21 Honda CRV with State Farm. A Model 3 in Houston, TX is cheaper to insure than an old Kia Soul or Hyundai Sonata due to Kia Boyz and many insurance companies won't even insure those anymore

    • @HowToKeepMore
      @HowToKeepMore  8 месяцев назад

      Yes you're right we make our own electricity here in Québec, it'll be cheaper and it'll cut down my trips to the supercharger. Thanks bud. For insurance I'm paying around $100/month for the Tesla. What about you

    • @HowToKeepMore
      @HowToKeepMore  8 месяцев назад

      Yes insurance depends on the chances of accidents, if you live in an area where there's more people you'll pay more. That's a good trick to get your car insured in an area where you live that has a lower amount of people.

    A couple of advises. 1. Learn how to post not mirror-reflected videos. 2. If you claim you own a Tesla for months, don't show the one with a new-car sticker hanging from the glove-box. It seems almost like you took a car for a test drive at Tesla to shoot your video. Be honest.

    Wait, what? Bro, you're doing it wrong. Ok, here are my thoughts. Mind you, I live in the US.
    1. If you own a home, condo or co-op, just installa charger! Every single time I get into my Tesla, it's fully charged and ready to go and I'm not just sitting in my car for hours on end charging it up. Plus, it's way cheaper! These are US prices, but I pay about $11 to charge.
    If you live in an apartment, then you've got to plan things out. Like you said, charge while grocery shopping, or at the mall or at the movies. However, I probably wouldn't get an EV if I didn't have a home charger.
    2. You're charging FIVE TIMES AS OFTEN IN THE WINTER???? Why? No, there's something wrong. So just to give you an example, if it's cold outside and I have the heat, heated seat and steering wheel going and I drive 100 miles, I generally expect to lose 120 miles of range. So 100 to actually drive the car and 20 for everything else. So I'd estimate I consistently need 20% more energy in the winter. I don't need 500% more energy!! That's nuts. What is your efficiency numbers? So far, the worst I've seen is 3.3 miles/kWh, but I'm sure it'll get worse if I encounter snow, etc. But going from having to charge once to five times? No, something is wrong.

    • @HowToKeepMore
      @HowToKeepMore  8 месяцев назад

      Hey thanks for the feedback, I'm driving more often compared to before plus the heating takes a huge amount. It makes sense to get home charger, it's not convenient going every week. That must be amazing getting in the car being fully charged. How many times do you charge in a month?

  • @jianbinchen2881
    @jianbinchen2881 8 месяцев назад +1

    it not cheap at supecharger same as toyota hybrid

  • @stuartburns8657
    @stuartburns8657 8 месяцев назад +4

    EV's are not really worth it unless you are fortunate enough to be able to home charge on a cheap rate.
    Otherwise, the payback is too long vs an ICE

    • @HowToKeepMore
      @HowToKeepMore  8 месяцев назад

      Yes I agree charging at home makes more sense than having to drive it to supercharger every week. Do you have a gas car?

    • @stuartburns8657
      @stuartburns8657 8 месяцев назад

      @@HowToKeepMore Yes, 2 x diesels in the UK. Both fully paid off and 60k(ish) on their clocks.
      Touch wood, they are in good enough condition to hang onto for another few years, and both get 55mpg or higher, but our annual mileage is ridiculously low tbh.
      I keep an eye on the EV space, but happy to let things mature (or implode?!) and will maybe dip our toes in 2026-27.

    Or you can design a bracket to mount a high output alternator and charge while you drive. Or figure out regenerative breaking. They could have done this but couldn’t charge and tax you if it was free
