Santos case with the vet got even worse. The vet didn't get the money, so the dog died and he had to panhandle to get money for the cremation and funeral of his beloved dog.
I always thought that 'Go Fund Me' was regulated a little tighter.
Was it not authorized to see that the raised funds were 'properly' used?
They need to review/adjust their mission statement.

I do understand that 'Go Fund Me' is only a platform to raise money.
But, there should be some regulatory mechanism that assures that the funds raised are used for the stated purpose.
The platform has been used to raise funds for all types of things from vacations to major surgery.
In this instance, it was straight fraud!!!

I mean, public servant should only make minimum wage. You chose a life of service, not a life of wealth. Self-sacrifice is requirement for good public service. I personally prefer a system where the more power you have, the more of yourself you have to surrender. Your family, home, career, even your name. Money and Legacy are the wrong reasons to go into politics, so remove them from the equation.
The debt ceiling is self-imposed. Politicians created it. And politicians make a fuss about it. It's like me committing a crime and lamenting there are no police.
The US doesn't really owe anybody money. The US is a currency issuer. As such, it creates its own money through the treasury selling bonds and the Fed reserve buying them. The only limit to this is inflation. And as such, the interest rates were raised and more will need to be done. You and I can't print our own currency. Govt debt is different than personal or corporate debt. Govt debt is owed to itself (treasury to Fed reserve/central bank). Also, the US dollar is the primary trading currency in the world. So where the USD goes, so too do other currencies follow.

I had a roommate like George Santos once. She was a pathological liar. After 3 months I tried to get her family to stage an intervention (bc she was spending money she didn’t have, staying out late and leaving her kid home with me, and bringing home a new guy every night) but unfortunately they kept believing the lies. So I moved out and broke the lease. I wasn’t going to live with someone I couldn’t trust. And the sad part is, this ended a 20+ year friendship. It’s true, you never really know someone till you live with them!!
That friendship _had_ to end. Too bad you had to break your lease.

This is a congressional failure of accountability. No one is above the law.
This Santos will be charged with election fraud, violating campaign finance laws and tax evasion.
Trump will be indicted for espionage, obstruction of justice and insurrection.
But Congress needs to restrict presidential and congessional powers.
Just because the people elected them doesn't or shouldn't mean they're above the law.

A friend of mine had a heart attack and dtroke, and broke a pelvic bone in falling. We had a hustler take over fund raising, running off his friends, and while she didn't take all the money, she took enough to buy herself a new refrigerator. I heard from a man who'd worked in elder care that this sort of thing was rather common. The family is distraught and welcomes someone who seems to know how to set up fund raisers. The hustler takes some to all of the money.
I had an ex who lied about everything...and I mean EVERYTHING. Even his grandmother told me to ditch him. She looked super uncomfortable when we stopped in for a first time meeting. I ditched him pretty quickly even with my low self-esteem.
How about instead of needless cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security we have the wealthiest among us do the right thing and like a good citizen just pay their fair share! I mean, they can't take it with em when they die! Or we, the American workforce, could always STRIKE!!

you should've seen the photo of the dog's tumor. it was the size of a basketball. the dog had to be euthanized a few months later after santos' said he would not give the vet the money for the surgery. poor sapphire was in pain and there was no way the owner could pay for the surgery...so putting her down was the only option remaining.

Members of Congress cannot be 'recalled' by the people. It's part of the Constitution, not controlled by any State rules. A member of Congress can only be removed by Congress itself. It requires two-thirds of the members of the specific body for an 'expulsion'. That would be highly unlikely given the GOP majority in the House.

I think the idea both with Walker and Santos is that if the public doesn't find out, they have leverage with the guy to make sure he votes exactly as ordered. Walker was just too obviously brain-damaged. Santos' lies turned out to be just too obvious.

@@janicebunch7599 That is not true. You have to take a test to work at any of those places and someone with a serious mental illness won’t be able to pass the test. It’s a timed test and you can’t miss more than two. Most people fail it because they don’t finish it in time. When I took it, I was the only one in the room that passed. There was at least 30 people there, 75% of the people in the room couldn’t even finish the test.

This was hard to hear about a vet with nothing but his loyal friend. Trying everything he can to keep him going. And stealing the money. I heard of a case of a couple stealing money from a homeless guy. And they got jail time. Well hopefully the CIA gives him a job with all his different alias.

Cuts to Social Security and Medicare will only be for future beneficiaries such as raising the retirement age and the age to qualify for Medicare. Young people ought to pay attention and vote. Those of us already on those programs aren't affected except possibly with larger future Medicare premiums and smaller cost of living SS increases.

Stephan, you left out a critical piece of information from the Anthony Devolder homeless vet dog surgery scandal (I know its difficult to keep track with all of the events). The service dog needed surgery to deal with its cancer.
