Really enjoy your channel, I am coming upto Woolley Park Sunday afternoon to play 18 holes and have lunch, as i have always watched the videos of the course so thought for my birthday I would give it a go. Keep the brilliant videos going!
Hello. I do play the P 790 for more than a year now. Being an average player these irons are amazing. I do play from 4 - Pw and I can’t imagine better irons , using steel shaft. The ball flight is fairly high and the distance with iron 4 and 5 is up to 160 m. They perform very good , great feel and very forgiving. I can only highly recommend them. 😊😊😊
Definitely like to see the Takomo comparison, I’m seriously considering them but still nervous about taking the risk, I’m same age and handicap as Dave so this just gold for me.
I've just got a combo set of 5,6,7 in the 790's and 8,9,pw in the 770's. My fitter adjusted the 790 loft to match the gapping on the 770's. As I'm a leftie I went with an MG4 48/9 because there's no U /A wedge available for left handed. I already have a 54 and 60 in the MG4. I had the 2021 790's before this and was changing as I was upgrading shafts from a tipped r300 95 elevate to an s300 115g true temper dynamic gold mid . Love my new set after only 2 rounds even though I'm losing 10 yards because of the loft difference but it's a worthwhile trade off. Love the new shaft also
@saucy_taco I wanted the 770's for more accuracy on approach shots and fitter recommended I go with 790's in longer irons as a little more forgiving. 2 mths later loving them and the accuracy of the 770's.
@saucy_taco smaller face than the 790s. So more accurate but less forgiving. I would have stuck with my previous full set of 790s only I was upgrading my shafts and decided to make a small change. Not for everyone. Go with a full set of 90's you won't be disappointed but get fitted into the correct shafts
I have the P790s (2023 model) and had a chance to play with a set of T101T model with is probably on line with the P770 as far as lofts go. I really like them but, as expected, the irons were about a half a clublength shorter than the P790s. It created some problems with club selection at first otherwise the feel was right there with the Taylormades. The Takomo 101s are roughly similar with the short irons a bit stronger and the long irons actually a bit weaker in lofts. To be completely honest, most clubs in this line are perfectly serviceable for most players in the mid to lower handicap range. I think a lot of it has to do with personal preference and customization if that is needed. I believe that if there was the ability to actually hit with the Takomos there would be much more interest. I know I would have seriously considered them if I had an idea how they would feel.
A lot is overall distance. I get about ten yards more with the P790s compared to the P770s when I was looking at replacing my old Hogan PTx hollow back clubs. The difference in distance was negligible with the P770 but noticeable with the P790. A lot depends on swing speed. The offset actually was of a marginal signficance to me. I've lost a fair amount of clubhead speed with back injuries but my strike is still generally ok. I needed the ability to get another 10-15 yards out of my clubs, especially short irons and I went with the P790s. I could play the 770s but I'd rather hit an 8 iron from 145 than a 7 iron. Getting old stinks but what can you do.
Unless I've missed it, have you tried the Wilson Dynapower Forged irons yet ? I've seen you review the others in the set but not those, if not I would love to see them.
I had been away from the game for over 15 years. Back in May I went and got fit into the 790s. Looking back I wish I had waited longer, cause I feel I’ve gotten to the point where I already need a change. My swing has gotten faster and I’ve noticed once I get going the miss I have turns into left as well. I haven’t hit on a sim since being fitted and I was at 86 mph then. I’ve gotten much faster, just not sure exactly how much?! But I’m looking at the new 770 and possibly split with cb around 7 or 8 iron. Distance wasn’t an issue either, I actually weakened my 790 2 degrees, so really similar in lofts to the 770 and CB now. I just wish my fitter thought about my personal situation when I got fit. I’ve noticed the kid hasn’t been in store since, so I’m guessing he’s gone and probably because he wasn’t a good fitter and more of someone trying to push an in stock set. Fitting people straight of handicap is a terrible idea. I’ve always hit irons pretty good and learned on blades over 25 years ago as a teenager. I was hitting the 790 180yds at my fitting with one over 200 on my 7 iron. You’d think he’d see that and consider some irons geared towards a better ball striker. It’s partly on me too, but I was also just returning after 15 years, so I was way out of touch
The problem with mid-handicap testing is that everyone has different weaknesses. An older man with a slower swing speed is going to benefit from lower lofts, more distance. A younger, faster swinging player has the opposite reason for higher scores. Manufacturers don't seem to market to players who can swing at 110+ but don't strike consistently.
Love having Retired Dave on the channel, Takomo comparison please.

Was really thinking of the 790's nxt year but this has made me wonder if I should look at the 770's. My miss is left currently.....
I’m really interested in the Takomos. So seeing the difference would be great.
Definitely compare them to his 101t please. Great job Chris, keep them coming brother.
Yes it would be good to see the comparison with Dave's current irons and the TM770's.

what’s the reasoning of getting half 790 and half 770?

@ so the 770s are more accurate? why is that
i don’t know much about them that’s why i’m asking i’m seeing if i should just get all 790s

Would like to see distance comparison P770 Takomo 101T great vid
Had the same result when I tried both 770 worked better, but I ended up with T150 and they are better than both 👍

I game the Takomo 101Ts, so would love to see the comparison with the TM P770!

Head to Head against Takomo...and maybe against a G430 game improvement. The 790 worked good for Dave as he getting better height.
What is his swing speed?
I'd like to see Dave hit the Callaway Apex Ai200s vs. his gamers (Takomo 101Ts)
Did u get your lufc ball back Dave?
No it’s gone to golf ball heaven
101t against 790 please
Get in Dave! A few more sessions like that and you’ll be getting drunk!
Takomo vs p770
