I am new to E-bikes so I'm shopping around and checking out reviews. I've seen several videos of others already and you should honestly be proud. You have such a clear structure to your videos, tackle all the questions, and your visuals are easy to watch. All of that crammed into 13 minutes too! Some of these reviews are just so long and when I'm shopping around those add up and my whole day is gone. lol but you got it right on the money! Thanks for working on these!
I bought one two month ago and I love it. I weigh 190 lbs and with peddle assist I've been able to tackle every hill where I live. I live in a very hilly part of new york. Great review👍👍
Assembly is minimal. It ships 85% assembled and it should take less than 30 minutes to complete. If you would feel more comfortable having a professional set it up for you though RPB does have service options that they offer. www.radpowerbikes.com/pages/mobile-service
Dang, I really wish they had kept this bike. To me, it is the most well-though out, durable, bullet proof bike frame in the market. It was like the Toyota Camry of bikes, it could have been around for all of time haha
Decided to buy this bike because I take two buses to work resulting in an hour and a half transfer time Had this bike for about a week now cut my hour and a half down to half an hour. Half an hour full speed minor pedal assist I’ll lose one bar of battery out of five. On the way home I lose a second. So all in all for about an hour and 10 minutes of bike riding I’ll lose two out of the five bars. I don’t even notice the medium hills I traverse. And the bike has got to be one of the most smoothest solid bikes I’ve driven in a while. Thoroughly impressed and recommend it to anyone looking to get around the city in a Ease.
Really appreciated all the testing like hill climb with two different riders and throttle vs. max pedal assist as well as range on max assist with average speed. Loved all of the different test cases. Exactly the kind of information I was hoping to find. Thank you!
We're happy to hear you found it useful! If there are other tests you think could be valuable to include please let us know. We want all our reviews to be helpful for people looking to make a decision on which bike is best for them.
Great review guys. I really like all the tests and numbers and stuff you were showing. It helps to really understand the power and what the bike can do 👍
I'd keep the motor off till you get the bike riding down. Then start off slow with PAS 1. Low speed = safer learning :) Let us know how it goes/how you like it!
@@ElectricBikeReport thanks for the tips! That's generally my plan, and to start slowly in the parking lot for my apartment. I'll work up to trying not busy streets first, then hopefully the more direct ones to work. Never too late to learn to ride after all, and this will be a more green and healthy way to commute!
Really wonderful product. Everything works smoothly and perfectly. Amazed at how well the bike performs with the motor turned off. Actually, initially I could not believe the pedal assist was not turned on because it was so easy to pedal. Sorry this model is discontinued as i would buy another large size for a second home.
Excellent review. I'm going to go buy me a Rad Mission. Seriously! I was worried about the single speed, but the pedal assist in effect makes it a five speed.
@@bruceweez I loved it so much I bought one immediately following the test ride!😊..and the best part is that I didn't have to wait to get mine. I was gonna order the midstep in black and wait God only knows how long for it to arrive but the sales guy who was helping me said they have one in the back still in the box that I could purchase right then. The only thing was that it was red, not black and if I was ok with that then I could avoid the long wait. Well of course I jumped at it and they even said they'd build it for me but I would have to wait for that to happen. It took a week but I was rolling much sooner than expected. And the red isn't really red at all, its orange and it looks killer!..I just got lucky that I was the first one there in the morning for my test ride because that bike would've probably sold that day to someone. I've had it for a little over a month now and I'm seriously loving it, no regrets whatsoever 😊
@@ElectricBikeReport well I rode it and purchased one immediately following the ride. I got lucky too because they had one in the back still in the box so I didn't have to wait exept for the week I waited for them to build it for me!...I'm absolutely loving it!😊
Totally agree with other comments. One of the best ebike reviews ever. For example....How many miles it will go on charge? Heavier rider vs light rider up the hill. How the radpower mechanical brakes worked. (Radpower must believe that mechanical brakes are good enough vs hydrolic) Other bike reviewers can learn something from this review! Good job!
After much research I finally went down to my local rad dealer here in Vancouver and took a scheduled test ride on the step through model. I chose the bike with the lower top bar as my back and knees aren't what they used to be and I found it much easier to mount than my current regular frame hybrid. Well needless to say I fell in love with it and basically all the great reviews were right so i decided to purchase one today. Unfortunately they're currently out of stock with the black ones and it would be a long wait for one but they had a red one in the back of the store so that's the one I bought. I could have taken it home today and assembled it myself because people online are saying it's pretty easy but I have zero confidence doing that kind of thing, so out of caution I'm having the rad shop put it together and if I gotta wait a bit then so be it. At least I'll know it's done right and if there's anything unexpected it can be dealt with before it leaves the shop. I'm so excited to be able to go on long pleasure rides again all over Vancouver and around the seawall and beaches!...
I live in bc too and my wife and I have the exact same bikes as in the video minus the rear rack, same colour and all ,and we enjoy being on ours as much as we can they are fun and simple and plenty of jam for the hilly terrains in bc ! You’re going to get a lot of enjoyment out on that bike
@@rockitman99 I've had it for almost exactly a year now and I absolutely love it. I've gotten the lcd display and the larger standard battery and schwalbe marathon tires amongst a few other things. I've got probably almost 6000km on it by now and haven't had any major issues, just regular maintenance including brakes and a few tune ups. It's just been a great solid bike and I haven't regretted anything about it for a second. Enjoy your missions!😊
Reviews like this with real world tests are very helpful. I wish all reviews included them. I have a few extremely steep hills near me and was very nervous about how the single gear would work. I figured at worst, I could just use the PAS the same way I would use a geared bike with PAS 4 being the easiest gear. PAS 1 and 2 can be used as gears to make riding easier, but PAS 3 and 4 are too strong LOL. I do have 2 hills near me where throttle only won't get me to the top. I'm 175lbs and these are some steep hills. With PAS 3 it's a challenge that requires standing, but it can be done while sitting with PAS 4.
We're glad you find the tests valuable! Interesting to see how the different PAS levels translate where you're at. Happy to hear the single speed meets your needs though.
I think a very overlooked plus is how low-profile the electronics on this bike are, especially with the battery removed. Helps when you’re commuting around high crime areas.
Glad you found it helpful! We put riders of all weights and heights on each bike to try and get a better picture who the bike will work for during our reviews.
Overall, I like your style of review...it’s not just a quick ride but real world tests. And I appreciate that u said it’s like a real bike w electric assistance. My last ebike made me feel like I was just along for the ride and it’s handling was vague and didn’t inspire confidence. Thanks. New sub
Much appreciated for the sub :) And we're very happy to hear you found the tests helpful. That was a consensus among our team too: It felt like a bike and not an ebike, and we mean that in a good way.

I live in Europe and they only sell the 250w on here. I weight 117lbs and have some very steep hills during my commute - 18% for 200 meters and 7% for 700 meters. Would this bike be able to go through these mini hills with ease in pedal assist mode?
You might want to point out a 500 watt motor is still more in the hill assist category and is intended for you to do some of the work. If you want a motor that will do all the work you'll need more like a 1000 watt motor.
Wish you went more in-depth with the hill test for larger riders. I'm 230 and live in a city with nothing but steep hills, but not sure if this is a bike for me or I'll be huffin and puffin throughout every commute. Like what kind of huffing and puffing, riding on a straight road without any assist or riding up a small to steep hill without any assist?
Canadian rad rover 6 plus owners should note, this is close to what to expect from your rad rover since it's limited to 500W, and also it's heavier than the rad mission. Speaking from experience here
I bought it in November and I was NOT impressed with the torque. It needs more power uphill and at the starts. I bought an eggrider display to increase the torque and its much better now.
Our feel was this bike was built with efficiency in mind. Power and speed levels are good here, but not top end by any means. Glad the eggrider could help you get it where you feel it needed to be for you.
Would this bike be good in a very hilly area? I live in Scotland and would like a Rad e-bike but they don't sell the version with 7 gear speeds here, just this single-speed one. Would it be unwise to get a single-speed?
Hello. I am looking for the perfect e bike for me. I am an athlete 6’6 225 lbs. I am looking for an e bike for traveling to the gym, getting a workout in, and maybe some bike trails from time to time. What do you recommend?
I got this bike last week and absolutely love it! I have rode over 200 miles in one week and I would have never done that on a traditional bike! Yesterday I got my lcd display and was able to increase speed to 25mph! My worries. Where the single speed, However there is no concern whatsoever!
Great video, really helpful... How do I charge the battery? Should I take it off from the bike and charge it separately, or it charges connected to the bike?
Either way works. If you can get the bike near enough to an outlet inside you don't have to take the battery off. But if you need to lock the bike outside or in a apartment garage you can take the battery off and charge it.
i love this channel when im browsing ebikes. i see something online and check what you say about it. i can see for myself if their claims are factual or bs. i do food delivery with bikes so i need to consider stuff very carefully. this might be the one i decide on based on that range test.
Hi I’m having a problem with mine I’m not sure why but when I use peddle assist it’s fine but when I use throttle the bike doesn’t move very fast it goes very slow
They list the high-step model as good for riders between 5'7"-6'4" But if you'd prefer you can opt for the mid-step version which is for riders 5'2"-6'2"
I'd like to know what's Pierce's height? I have the Rad Runner Plus but I want to buy another bike, the Rad Mission 1. I can't seem to make up my mind but the high-step vs. mid-step is something that I need to make sure I'm comfortable with.
DAMN my dude called himself average while standing next to the homie. He put on a poker face but that hurt my dudes feelings for sure. Straight up called him lowkey fat.
I really like my RadMission Bike! I have the same rear rack as shown in the video, but I can't seem to find the "Small Metal Basket" anywhere. RAD is OUT OF STOCK on this Item. It's $59 on their website. Any help locating one of these would be awesome! Great Video!!👍
They really need to offer a version with gears. Single speed is fun in a way but it's just poison for your knees. Hell, with its 50/16 teeth it does 6.6 meters per crank turn, that's knee-bursting madness at lower speeds. Even more for the European version with the motor limited to 250 Watts and no throttle. With 7 gears like their other bikes I would buy one immediately.
In my meager experience, I want an e-bike with a 'instantaneous' response in peddle assist. Why? It makes me feel super human. With delayed response, it is just a motorized bike.
I have the EU version with 250w motor it's doing my head in when I reach top speed then the moter cuts off then slow me down, I feel like I'm breaking without breaking!!! It gets dangerous sometimes when cars are behind me and the bike starts to slow down, nearly got hit from behind by London bus the other day cuz the bike started to slow down massively! I need to do something about it, take it to someone or somewhere to change the settings or disable the speed sensor. Anyone knows where can be done in London/ England please let me know. Rather than that I like the bike specially when I get stopped by birds (girls) complimenting my bike telling me your bike is sick LOL Thanks for the review guys 👍
I just got my bike yesterday and took it out. You definitely notice the cutoff when you get to the max speed (20 MPH here in the USA). I love this bike This is my first ebike, so I can't really compare it to others. Like you, I wish there was a way for the bike to calculate the energy it takes to reach the max speed and maintain that. I'm not sure how that would happen though. For example, if it takes 200 watts to reach max speed, I would love the bike to then lock in at 200 watts and allow me to put in my power on top of that. One challenge would be when I then encounter going up or down a hill. The bike would have to change the amount of power to maintain the max speed. Curious as to how other bikes do it. Only had it for 24 hours but I can't wait to get on again today at lunch time.
Glad you liked the review! Careful with disabling the speed sensor though. Depending on the laws where you live it could leave you in a spot of trouble if you get the speed going up too high.
I'm not sure we recorded those for this video, sadly! This was our first attempt at any type of speed test and we just opted to show it visually instead of with the time.
It would be nice to actually see it run motor only not just a hill, If i wanted to watch pedaling I would buy a pedal bike. Maybe the 80cc 2 stroke is a better idea.
It's definitely a tradeoff with any singlespeed. We find that getting into a groove with the PAS levels is a way to still somewhat adjust your cadence while riding, but it isn't the same as a full gearing system for sure.
@@ElectricBikeReport I think for non-electric SS bikes, the benefits are simplicity and weight savings which you trade for cadence in varied terrain. In my mind, with an e-bike, most of those benefits aren't really there since you've got an electric drive system! I will admit I have yet to try any of these bikes, so maybe a test ride will change my mind real fast :P Really appreciate all your indepth reviews. They've really helped me understand the benefits of electric bikes... years ago I was very much turning my nose up at them.
All good points! And many people on our own team were skeptical in the beginning as well. There's plenty to love about them once they are given a chance though!
These Reviews are so much better than that dweeb EBR that bla blas on and on about irrelevant features to fill the time. I am in sf I was wondering about the hill climbing. Too bad it’s only 9%. SF has a lot of 15-20% and even up to 40% in a few areas.
Single speeds have certain advantageous on bikes in general, but with the motor of an e-bike they are even easier to get behind in our opinion. Still, it won't be for everybody.
Biggest sale scam in the history. Why I said that? I purchased one during their “biggest Black Friday sale” on Oct 7th, they delayed to ship every two weeks saying that they experienced a huge amount of sales. until today, a month and a half later, my order has been completely canceled. I knew there were something wrong but I believed this company too much until they completely destroyed my belief. Good luck on your next scam.

Either works for charging. Off the bike tends to be easier in most scenarios and it is the safest practice too.
Great review!!! That's what I wanted to know
Glad it was helpful!
I suppose it is a cost savings reason, but if your going single speed, a belt would be nicer.
We wouldn't hate having a belt option.
i love this channel when im browsing ebikes. i see something online and check what you say about it. i can see for myself if their claims are factual or bs. i do food delivery with bikes so i need to consider stuff very carefully. this might be the one i decide on based on that range test.
Thanks for watching, Oliver!
Hi I’m having a problem with mine I’m not sure why but when I use peddle assist it’s fine but when I use throttle the bike doesn’t move very fast it goes very slow
Rad has a good reputation with customer service. You can try reaching out to them.
Hi, is it possible to pedal at a minimum pace ("pseudo pedalling") and still reach the maximum speed if you are on the max. assist level 4?
If it's like the Radcity. Yes you can. But really I prefer not to do it. I keep my assist at 0 and use the throttle sparingly
Well done , I have one on order.
Let us know how you like it when it arrives.
@@ElectricBikeReport Will do
@@pgerry9400 did it arrive?
@@matt84768 Yes , and worth the pretty short wait.
I really like this bike but Im wondering if the standover height is going to be too high for me because Im 5'7.3
Pierce is 6' tall. On Rad Power Bikes' website they recomend the mid-step for riders 5'2"-6'2" and the high-step for riders 5'10"-6'4"
I ordered the high step and I'm 5'9" but I'm use to riding bikes like that
I’m just worried about the frame it looks a bit small for a bit of a taller rider. I’m 6’1” I’m wondering if it would make me hunch too much
We've had 6'1" and 6'5" riders try it out and it wasn't a problem for either of them.
@@ElectricBikeReport thank you!
Does anyone know its water resistance level? I need to know if I can ride this bike in the rain.
anyone else notice their headlight turning on automatically w this bike on power up? trying to figure out how to stop it from coming on automatic
Am I able to drive this in the rain because I live in a country where it is always raining. Is there something I can do about that then?
Built to withstand the rain! Though I'd recommend a cover for it if you frequently park it outside.
DAMN my dude called himself average while standing next to the homie. He put on a poker face but that hurt my dudes feelings for sure. Straight up called him lowkey fat.
Haha. Griffin here: I was the one that encouraged him to point out weight difference. It's all good with us!
don't understand why it doesn't come with suspension fork, odd...
Is the battery removable or it's integrated, thanks!
Removable.
Much appreciated 😁 There are FB groups for rad owners. You can maybe check there and see if somebody has one they'd be willing to part with.
I think that's a fair upgrade that many people would like to see offered. It's always worth emailing them to let them know your thoughts on that.
right now as of comment its $499 for the ebike
Rather than that I like the bike specially when I get stopped by birds (girls) complimenting my bike telling me your bike is sick LOL
Thanks for the review guys 👍
@@ginsu101 Look into buying an eggrider, it unlocks the restrictions on the controller and gives more torque and speed.
I’m thinking of buying in the uk also ! Such a shame about our nanny state 15 mph law . Does it pull uphill ?
Anyone know how to get it to 35 mph
How fast will throttle only get you?
up to 20 mph
What were the 100 yard dash times?
I'm not sure we recorded those for this video, sadly! This was our first attempt at any type of speed test and we just opted to show it visually instead of with the time.
All sold out at 499
Hope you got one at that price .
im thinking of getting this bike as a student, who wants sometime for when going to work
We think it's an awesome bike for students.
@@ElectricBikeReport good for running groceries too?
I'm looking for a bike I can ride and camp the Erie canal
What is max weight it carry.
275lb payload capacity
The Radmission was on clearance for $499. Hopefully there's a V2.0 in the pipeline,... 👍
HI guys, is the code for $100 off still valid?
Good till the end of July.
Tried code on July 25: "Enter a valid discount code or gift card". The code is a apparently no longer valid. :-(
It would be nice to actually see it run motor only not just a hill, If i wanted to watch pedaling I would buy a pedal bike. Maybe the 80cc 2 stroke is a better idea.
But this is a pedal bike...
$499 now 🎉
Yes amazing price
Tip: you don't have to leave key in Battery during riding.
Good point!
As someone who likes to keep a consistent cadence, the singlespeed drivetrain sort of puts me off
It's definitely a tradeoff with any singlespeed.
Thank you! Yeah SF has some insanely large hills. Some gearing options might be a bit better for your situation.
Wait wait wait. Single speed?!!!! So you use the same gear ration to go up a steep hill and down the hill??? Why????
Single speeds have certain advantageous on bikes in general, but with the motor of an e-bike they are even easier to get behind in our opinion. Still, it won't be for everybody.
Biggest sale scam in the history. Why I said that? I purchased one during their “biggest Black Friday sale” on Oct 7th, they delayed to ship every two weeks saying that they experienced a huge amount of sales. until today, a month and a half later, my order has been completely canceled. I knew there were something wrong but I believed this company too much until they completely destroyed my belief. Good luck on your next scam.
