Super bummed. They sent it with the wrong battery. They have 2 batteries that will work with it and they shipped it with the wrong one. The website says it comes with the larger 720Wh battery but it came with the smaller 680Wh battery. I have reached out to rad and so far they are saying that it is the right battery (it’s definitely not). I don’t think I would have bought it for the price if it had the smaller battery.
As of now I definitely don’t recommend getting it. I can’t tell you how bummed I am to say that. I will update it rad fixes it.

I like the stout, traditional look. The color with the gum wall tires really looks nice, and I think the only change I'd make is to have a full front fender because mud is common where I ride. The extra torque will be appreciated, and I'm certain this will do better in that department than the hundreds of Trek bikes I've ridden with that struggle with hills. The selectable class is a real breakthrough, though I wonder if it will be allowed on trails that are "class 1 only" since you can change the class. I know Rad is staying legal by limiting the power precisely, but they could make at least one model as 750 watts nominal and 1,200 watts peak. I've had Rad motors on the bench in my shop for testing, and they were fine peaking at 1,700 watts.

  • @curiousgeorge555

Test rode one 2 days ago. The throttle lags then lunges when you first take off. That felt abnormal. The ride was really smooth and felt very safe. Felt very safe at 27 mph. I thought it would have more power. I'm going to test ride one again as they allow for 45 min's in my area. Will try steep hills. Will post my thoughts after that. Oh, got some looks from peep's. Looks quite cool, imo.

Great review, as usual. Would love to see a review of the Himiway A7 pro. A cool looking full suspension e-bike. I have watched other reviews of the bike on other channels, but I prefer the way you do your reviews. I'm looking at purchasing either the Rad power Radster or the Himiway. The Himiway is just a few hundred more, but looks like a bit more value.

A very nice upgrade from Rad on this, the Road version and Wagon. 100Nm peak torque at 750W, torque sensor, potted battery, UL 2271 and 2849 and two class 3 modes to keep them legal per local max speed limits are very nice. I’m also glad they are offering some models in different frame size like Aventon. I’m mixed on the Expand. That one still seems limited compared with competitors.
I think the biggest advantage of the new models is the new motor. It seems Rad designed it to exert its peak torque at 750W peak, whereas similar output geared hub motors need to be fed 1000W or more to exert their peak torque. It’s probably why the Radsters achieve more distance per full battery than most of their peers.
I agree, the biggest cons on the Trail are the nearly useless front fender and weight, though the latter is probably due to making the frame sturdy.
I’m not fond of some of the color options, but it’s not the only brand I think that of. That’s subjective though. Some of the colors are nice. I’m just glad they’re going beyond white, black or orange.
I like the Radsters and Wagon. Perhaps once I get more miles on the e-bikes I have though (I’ve had my XPedition only just over a year), or sooner if I need to get one with UL certification. They’d sweeten the deal if they program their display to toggle between torque sensor and cadence sensor mode like some Juiced models and the new Euphree Stellar Falcon!

It has good appearance and I like the 100 nm spec and price point. But immediately I didn't like the fenders. Looks like plastic, I prefer metal, and I was seeing in this video the front fender shaking on off-pavement rough roads. That will make noise at minimum, and may even fracture/loosen up. Not enough support bracketing there to keep it fixed in place. And I agree with your assessment, the front fender is too short.
I don't ride for exercise, so a torque sensor is not advantageous to me. I don't like the speed oscillations as I pedal with torque sensor, I want the steady speed of a cadence sensor no matter how hard I pedal. And since I'm seeing other brands now offering both types of sensor on their ebikes, and switchable by the rider, it shouldn't be an either/or choice on purchase any more.
I subscribed to your channel. I have an Aventon Aventure2 (on which I accepted the torque sensor but found I don't like that sensor), so I'm watching reviews to prepare for purchase of a 2nd eBike.

I have a basic question....Say you are in the 8th gear. When you shift, does that go back to 1st gear or do you click shift to 7,6,5,4,3,2 and then to one?

    • @scotteger6271
      @scotteger6271 5 месяцев назад +3

Bicycle shifters go one gear at a time, up or down...so in your question you're in 8th gear...you can only go down to 7th gear but then you can either go down one more gear to 6th, or go back up to 8th.
On cadence sensor bikes the gears don't matter as much, but for torque sensor bikes like this you'll have to shift more and be in the correct gear more often, as the speed/motor power is generated by you pushing on the pedals...so if you're in too low of a gear you're not going to get much motor, because there isn't much resistance.

I personally find the styling of the Rad Power Bikes Radster Trail to be outdated, reminiscent of designs from 2018 or 2020. Nowadays, many e-bikes are adopting enclosed battery designs for enhanced aerodynamics and to avoid the aftermarket look.

    • @doziershaw9765

Honestly, they're very different bikes, so it's tough to recommend one over the other without knowing more about you and how you ride. The Radster has tons of features and the versatility to ride in a variety of environments. The LMT'D V2's beauty lies in its simplicity; it's fairly basic but it's done extremely well. I have one. It's my first e bike and I live in a hilly area with not so good roads. I like the bike when I'm riding around my neighborhood but for longer trips I am not that big of a fan. I get about 14 miles out of a full battery and there not being a back shock really is a pain in the back side. I also find it to be really heavy and if you don't shift down before coming to a stop it's hard to get going unless you use the throttle. I have a 2024 radster trail new e bike and yes I do pedal. It's just a lot of up hill down hill where I live. The bike is heavy too. I'm not trying to bash the bike just giving my honest experience. It's 5 miles to work and when I'm at work I ride about 4 miles doing my daily duties then ride home the 5 miles. When I pull in I'm on the last bar on the battery pack and the battery bar on the screen is depleted. I charge it over night then do the same thing again.

I'm on 3 unless I'm going down hill then I just coast. It's great technology and the power is awesome the petal assist works really good. I think the issue is the battery is a special insulated battery so I don't know if that means they've used less cells for the size and the bike is quite heavy and I am 207 lbs. If I could have done one thing different was to go and test ride some different bikes. I think I would have enjoyed something like a regular road bike more. The radster trail doesn't feel like a trail bike it feels like a wanna be motorcycle cosplaying as a mountain bike. I just want to say one more time or for the first time that I like rad bikes. They are a reliable company to buy bikes from.

Fortunately the torque sensors are more sensitive at PAS 5 so not a ton of effort is required. It's not aiming for the more extreme natural ride feel like most mid-drives do.
