- University of Leicester academic Emma Parker interviews Emmy Award-winning actor Alec Baldwin about Joe Orton.
'I've always had a special love for Joe Orton's writing' (Alec Baldwin, Nevertheless, 2017).

The interview took place at University College London in July 2017.
A very pleasant surprise. Thanks, Uni of Leicester .
This reminds me of Baldwin's commentary on the DVD of Glengarry Glen Ross: such a skilled raconteur, always accompanied with a sharp awareness of the larger context. Wonderful, fluid intelligence.
He is massively engaging
Blimey ! this is the first American who 'gets' an English (in this case working class) accent in a way that implies he understands the nuances and conveys with a realistic interpretation..Bloody great, normally Americans cannot work outside 'their box' .. .. it's not a put down just a fact as I see it.. good to listen to what he says about Orton 's words through his engagement with the play..
Very articulate chap. Would probably dominate the conversation in a pub. I appreciate the Brit way he said "pissed off" where most Americans would say "pissed."
When he does his English accent...he sounds like Oliver Reed. I had no idea that Joe Orton had a following in the USA at all, even though John Lahr is his biographer. This was a very nice surprise. Alec Baldwin is full of surprises.
Alec IS full of surprises. Not always... nice surprises 🤨
Who'd have thought someone like AB would be an Orton enthusiast. Nice surprise.
What a great interview and what a nice surprise coming upon it! Thank you Emma Parker for allowing AB to speak to his heart's delight on JO and his experience with the plays. It's a joy to hear someone enthuse about a their passion, in this case to the point of breaking into giggles while delivering various lines from the plays. Impressive that AB can go into so much detail, and seem lost in reverie, without ever losing track of his initial point. The ending connection to Trump's lasciviousness and its ridiculousness was very interesting. I only just started reading JO and accidentally happened upon this interview, which has convinced me I must now read a good deal more of him. Thank you so much!
Wow it's sooo great he knows Orton. Also the quote by Churchill xx cool
I am a new alec Baldwin fan....anyone that gets it like he does is a bit special...and the lady interviewer did a perfect job.
Even more respect for AB. He gets it and more, great sense of humour. Wonder if he's a Kenneth Williams fan?
Harry Andrews also played the copper in this
I lurve Harry Andrews
Fair play to Baldwin he gets british wit and absurdity.
This was excellent - what a good, unpretentious guy Alec Baldwin is.
His English accent is rather impressive 👍🏼
Yes. Agreed. You can tell he's a good actor because he talks with such enthusiasm about the job. From the heart's abundance the mouth speaks. True actors enthuse about their craft in the same way guitarists bang on about guitars. Great stuff.
Very interesting, engaging. Poor Joe, to think what he would have gone on to do
Brilliant.Just brilliant.
The image of Alec Baldwin acting in California Blues?....has always stayed with me...he was compelling to watch.
The loss of Orton was the worlds loss, always liked AB hope people see the real side of him,
Always adored AB , he’s always been gorgeous inside & out
The best English accent I think I’ve ever heard from an American. Normally they sound like Dick Van Dyke
wow so very interesting... great job well done
fantastic stuff from alec Baldwin, great actor.
Could you imagine Orton on Trump?
Completely bonkers!!
great actor , it would be great if he came over here to the west end and did joe orton here
Come off it Alec, you were in London in 1966... Weren't you?
Islington in fact.
Wow! Alec is quite good :0)
Way to plug your book Alec.
🔫
Brilliant. I could have lived without his diatribe on the subject of tipping, but, nevertheless, thanks for posting.
It's an uncomfortable thing to discuss in America. People phrase it as income inequality, but really it's closer to greed than it is the disparity of wage.
I'm with Mr Pink on this. And always will be.
;) ;)
Very good Garry!

God, you people are tedious
@@-xirx- I thought commies don't believe in God.
@@elijahbey3366 Exactly. Tedious.
@@-xirx- Was Halyna Hutchins tedious?
@elijahbey3366 You don't give a monkey's about that woman. It's crass & distasteful to use her death for your point-scoring
