As a Aussie Hunter I so much want to do that if I get the chance, even if I don't see success, but just experience the terrain, the bears and the atmosphere. So fight like fury when required to keep what you have and are able to hunt and access. Good Luck and keep the awesome content coming. Ordering my Weatherby this week.
Keep these videos coming! love watching how Weatherby cartridges perform and there’s not allot of places to see it. Should do some ballistic gel videos comparing cartridges as well.
22:02 "That, combined with the damage done by the .300 Weatherby, meant unfortunately we couldn't salvage the hide." This is why I try not to overgun my target game animals. Of course,, I don't spot and stalk either. All of my Idaho bears have been taken over bait with either a bow or a handgun. This year I'm using my custom Caspian 1911 10mm.
Yeah but spot and stalk hunting is the epitome of skill and hunting knowledge anyone can hunt over a bait pile in the middle of a private ranch that doesn’t take any skill or knowledge and thus isn’t very sportsmanlike at that point just go to the grocery store and “hunt” some steaks for yourself
@@christrouten9606 you’d know what to look for wouldn’t you? Sitting back in your lazy boy recliner with a 6 pack of cheap beer waiting for the animals to come to you sounds like I struck a nerve lol
man that looked like a big bear climbing up hill! i guess he rubbed his left side? right side looked good. keep 1/2 the hide. you can make something out of it. im going on my first good hunt in 2 weeks. ive gone myself several times wo success. im going to idaho! congrats on a great bear man!
As always that depends more on the shooter and conditions than anything. Weatherby doesn't advocate taking animals any further than a hunter personally considers being ethical. That being said a factory 300 WBY Mag load will carry more than 1200 ft lbs of energy and maintain more than 1800 fps out to about 900 yards or more depending on the projectile.
Safety tip - wear your seatbelt. Not only does it keep you in the car, it makes sure that the airbag “ knows” where you are and can provide the protection that it is designed to provide. Especially true for the passenger side of the outfit.
Unfortunately it was beyond salvaging. The 300 WBY Mag had essentially detached both front limbs and was devastating. They were able to haul out all the meat though and make some delicious roasts and bear sausage. They made sure proof of sex was attached to the quarter to ensure everything was legal.
I'm now reconsidering my choice of hunting with the 210 gr. accubond loads for Bear in .300 Wthby mag. The rifle was sighted in with that load and custom turrets from a Leaupold vx3i. But then again, hunting for meat , there is something to be said for not having to trail your quarry.
'He was getting away...' Classic. Great video and super cool hunt.
Nice job guys. Enjoyable hunt and banter!
Well done guys, this was fun to watch.

@@Swollenfishy sounds like the response of an armchair bear hunter to me.

Do a gear list from this hunt
Great hunt guys. What video camera are you using?
How far can a guy effectively shoot with that setup?

Isn't that 2 bears at the 16:00 mark?
Nope! Just a stump bear.

Sometimes you just got to take the shot.
