      My spring bear camp will be from May 22nd until June 2nd, this 2024 season, I'm not sure what my fall season looks like yet. However, I hunt unit 10A around Musselshell ranger station, I would love for yall to come out if for nothing more than to see the advantages of hounds and judging a bear as to see, size and maturity.

    • @themtnexperience
      @themtnexperience  5 месяцев назад

      There are three controlled hunts in Idaho, we all drew and you can keep your regular tag as well. But yes you’re right most of the entire state is OTC. Thank you for watching!

    How do you like the new swaro compact spotter. I’ve been contemplating getting one. I will say the new nl’s are so good I find myself using my spotter a lot less. I don’t pack it anymore but I wouldn’t mind running that light compact spotter.

    • @themtnexperience
      @themtnexperience  5 месяцев назад

      If your big goal is to cut down on weight, it's the perfect spotter. The fact that the eye piece has a ton of eye relief makes it so much nicer to use for long periods of time, with out getting fatigued. There are better preforming spotters out there, but with that comes an increase in weight for sure. I think the scope is perfect for most of the hunts I do, spring bear, mule deer, and elk, but if your needing to count rings of a sheep or really reach, I'd go with something else like the ATS 65 or the Kowa 66.

    Mate may I ask how many trips back and forth you need to do , in order to collect all the meat ( 2 bears) ? Do you collect all the meat or you leave some organs etc???

    • @themtnexperience
      @themtnexperience  5 месяцев назад

      On all of our bear hunts, we take out the hide and skull together. As far as the meat goes we treat them just like a deer or elk. We take the 4 quarters, neck meat, back straps and tenderloin. We will also take out as much bear fat as possible, to render down at a later date. On this hunt we did one trip down the mountain with both bears. Some of us were around 100 lbs coming off the hill. Average bear in Idaho is about 200-250lbs so minus bone weight and guts, there’s probably 125-150lbs to get out.

    • @coolissimo69
      @coolissimo69 5 месяцев назад

      @@themtnexperience Thanks for the explanation. I ask as I never hunted, or ate Bear, but looks so interesting. By the way what do you do with the hide? Is it possible to do a coat? Do you use it for cloth or as a rug or something.

    • @themtnexperience
      @themtnexperience  5 месяцев назад +1

      @@coolissimo69 We always tan the hides. The bigger bears we've harvested we will make full size rugs out of but they are very expensive so only the really nice big bears get rugged. I've though about sewing all the hides together to make a big blanket but just a thought for now.

    Great job, nice bears. I am putting a gun/scope together to go next yr. I'm looking at going to Idaho or Montana. My new rifle is a Browning . A Xbolt Hells Canyon Speed Long Range 280 ackley improve. Now I am looking at scopes now. Have ya had any issues with the Leupolds? I wanted a Leupold VX5 HD 3x15x44mm CDS scope. But some of the Long Range shooters. Told me to stay care of the Leupolds. To look at Zeiss or Nightforce. Any suggestion ? I want a exposed elevation turret. Covered windage turret. Around a 4x16 size scope.
