    I've really been having a good time flying these red planes theyre super fun in a merge, unfortunately they kind of lack in the BVR area right now since the AMRAAM got its update, I was told ED is working on a guidance/aerodynamics update the Russian missiles too so that will be awesome when it comes out we might be able to do some Russian BVR. Anyway guys thanks for watching and hope you enjoyed the video thank you for your ongoing support.

    Tip: at 720 kph it can sustain turns with some 19-21 degrees per second, making it similar to an F16. On the downside, this plane is very heavy, just a tad lighter than the F14 , thus having a lot of inertia to overcome. Great to see you flying FC3 aircraft vs full fidelity modules, G/S. Just goes to show that they definitely stand a chance and that their performance isn't diminished, in-game. I actually love the Su-33 vs F-14 Tomcat BFM on the "instant action". It's such a buzz.
    Little bit of trivia. A friend's father was a pilot with the East German air force and when the Berlin wall came down, all their MiG-29s came to a unified German air force (Luftwaffe). My friend told me that the NATO officials were shocked when they learned that Warsaw Pact pilots were selected based on the amount of G they could handle. By comparison, Western pilots were selected based initially on university/college level education. Therefore, any dogfights between the two sides would have been a resounding victory for the Warsaw Pact; assuming BVR wasn't successful [Side note: I don't know if that's bullshit or not, but it would be interesting if true]

    • @thepewplace1370
      @thepewplace1370 4 года назад +3

      With few exceptions, American pilots are required to be college graduates (officers) to be able to fly fixed wing. From there, the people most suited for a particular type of flying typically wind up doing their particular thing, assuming that is what they want to do. It makes total sense that the USSR would have selected the most G tolerant individuals for their fighter corps (regardless of whether that person wanted to fly fighters), as that follows how they did most everything: an individual was told to go where he/she would benefit the state the most.
      However, we do know the result of dogfights between NATO/Warsaw pact nations specifically because of the MiG29s and other aircraft in East German use when the wall came down (these being the best MiG29s, not the export versions). Upon the reunification, the Soviet assets in the former East German air force were immediately set against NATO pilots to see where NATO aircraft and tactics really stood. NATO pilots generally won these engagements, although its noted that the East German pilots occasionally did achieve K/D ratios as high as 1:1 and this prompted enough concern to change some tactics.

    By far my favourite aircraft in DCS, at least until we get the Eurofighter. I noticed in the gun fights that you were almost immediately hitting max AOA during turns. Using direct control mode to get your gun on target or enter the R-73 launch WEZ will cost you a pile of energy. Not recommended unless it will guarantee you a gun solution or a missile launch. Much better to dogfight with the AOA/G limiter off and save direct control mode for the moment when it will make a critical difference. Great job though, and a great video!

      Mig 29 is like a Soviet drone - it is cheap, does crazy stuff, and runs out of juice in 10 minutes flat. It was made to climb and take out bombers in these 10 minutes, then land on fumes. Not much time to dogfight.
      Su is the true air-superiority fighter of the USSR. Made to duel long range, short range, dogfight and come back. And those naval Su-33 with canards look absolutely stunning.

      @@nikolatasev4948 Plus I believe the Su-27 is just a much better thought-out design, and I believe the MiG-29 designer had a hand in perfecting the Su-27 from the initial T-10, so some lessons from the MiG-29 may have been applied. The Su-27 seems like it was also designed and built to last with much better materials than the MiG-29. As you said, the MiG-29 is literally just a good cheap throwaway fighter meant for a short service life on the front lines or for point-defense. That dirt cheap cost also made it great for export to developing nations. IMHO I think the Su-27 is the pinnacle of Russian aviation and is my favorite non-US fighter.

    There's a couple skins I would love to be able to make/find... The first is a personal one for me, since I grew up in Vermont, and had family (A sizable number of them, actually) in the Vermont Air National Guard, so adapting that look, both the color scheme and distinctive tail markings to the Flanker family, and the other one, a more Pop culture skin I desire is Yellow squadron from Ace Combat 04.
    What would make this humorous to me, is something that happened while I was in high school. My mom and soon to be Stepdad had joined the VTANG (Vermont Air National Guard) Co-ed softball team. I took one look at their team shirts and asked why they had a MiG as a logo for their softball uniform. My mom worked in the Chaplain's office at the time, and even one of the Chaplains tried to tell me I was mistaken, it was an F-15... Until I managed to google a MiG-25/MiG-31. I think it was even the picture used to make the logo.

    I read a lot of comments where people complain about “Americans (US)” bad mouthing Russian and Chinese aircraft.
    I’ve never found that to be the case except for overly patriotic and those who just haven’t read or watched the hundreds of books and documentaries available.
    I actually believe US pilots and historians have tremendous respect for these pretty amazing aircraft.
    When we really look in to Russian aviation throughout history..... Russian has had a love of aircraft from the earliest days of aviation and like the US, Germany, France and other nations has had its Frankenstein monstrosities and its absolute works of art.
    I think one of the things that draws me to the US A-10 is its absolute utility and emphasis on taking care of the pilot.
    Russia seems to place a high value of maintainability, ruggedness and making aircraft that can be deployed into rough conditions.
    Maybe someone who know more about Russian training. Do Russian pilots practice takeoffs and landing on unimproved fields and or road systems?
    Other than the A-10, I’m not aware of any US military fighters / or fighter attack with designs to protect intakes from FOD or even tires or suspensions designed to take the greater forces of grass fields or dirt roads.
    I’m not knocking US aircraft... just noting a difference in designs philosophy.
    I was finishing my airline training in the 90’s when a lot of Mig -15’s, 17’s, 21’s were being imported and brought back to flight capabilities. Many of these aircraft were being flown in Europe with parts missing, wire (bailing) holding in parts and in conditions that would immediately ground a F-4 or F-15....... maybe I’m wrong in making this assumption. Again, would love to hear anyone’s thoughts on this.

      Thanks to Microsoft, all HOTAS systems are fucking horrendously expensive :( Give it some time though, and you can get a t1600000000 for around $60, and the complementary throttle (TWCS) for about as much. Don't bother with an Extreme 3d Pro, they break pretty easily.

    The same fight against a Super Hornet? What do you think?

    • @basicforge
      @basicforge 4 года назад

      After doing a little research I'm guess the older Hornet might beat the Super Hornet because the newer plane is heavier? I was imagining that the larger leading edge root extensions of the Super Hornet might give it more nose authority than the original Hornet.

    In the first engagement, when you were trying to get the nose on him with the AoA limiter and min speed warnings going off, did you consider bypassing the ACS? This would have brought the nose right around earlier, but potentially left you a sitting duck if he managed to get a 9x off. Curious if you would recommend being more aggressive with the ACS.

    @14:45 Strange that the AIM-9X did not track anything. Su-27 fired its flares upwards, that should even have helped to direct the missile closer to the Su-27.
    For whatever reason it decided to neither track the flares nor the Su-27. It looks like the missile after the initial turn flew in a straight line so it was not pulling any g's.
    Maybe it was it fired too close so the missile thought it would harm the Hornet, too?

    I wonder if a missile could use infra red spectroscopy to distinguish the heat signature of jet engines from that of the flares. It should be possible in theory because the hot gases from the jet will have a very different chemical composition from those produced by flares, so the IR “fingerprints” (frequency spectra) will also be very different. I bet this has already been thought of. Any comment on this?

    So can anyone tell me how accurate the flight model on these non-full fidelity aircraft are? Is it realistic to the real life version? Is it built with access to real data or what? I'm not even sure how these modules are made.

    • @JETZcorp
      @JETZcorp 4 года назад

      My understanding is the FC3 planes have the same level of aerodynamic and physics simulations that go into full-fidelity modules. Some more complicated things like flight augmentation systems may not be as accurate as a full-fidelity module. The consensus seems to be that the MiG seems off, but others like the Sukhoi are better and the F-15 is supposed to be on the money.
