The beautiful town of Peak, SC, is a nice, safe, and close-knit rural community with 53 citizens. The town was first founded in 1853 as Peak's Station when the Greenville & Columbia Railway was completed. The town was named after the superintendent of the Greenville and Columbia Railroad Company, Mr. H. T. Peake. The completion of that segment of the railroad in South Carolina meant that a traveler could get from Greenville to Columbia in less than 11 hours. With an overnight stop in Peak, they could then journey on to Charleston the next day. Before the railroad existed, this same journey would take an average of two weeks to complete. When the town was incorporated in 1880, it was officially renamed Peak, SC. Today, Peak, SC is a popular section of the Palmetto Trail, which takes hikers from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the coast. As far as population goes, Peak is the 4th smallest incorporated area in the state. It's also nearly the smallest in land mass. The town is only .3 square miles. There are 640 acres in a square mile, so this means that Peak is a mere 192 acres.
Great video Mr. French. When ever I see you posting a nice little town video I quickly check the crime statistics. I'm like What the Heck. Crime statistics go 0 to 100. the higher the better. I look at these towns and they are single digits. Where I live is a 54 out of 100. That is very safe. I could leave my doors open at night and not be bothered. I want to move when I retire but it needs to be a safe place.

A two week trip shortened to 11 hours must of been a godsend in their time.
