  • In this video we ask the question if tungsten fresnel lights are dead in the film and commercial business? I have purchased many LED lights over the years but have not purchased any tungsten lights that makes me wonder if this type of light is dead in todays market. I have to say no. Many films still use tungsten lights to this day for many different situations. I have always owned a small set of tungsten light that I will never get rid of. The wonder thing about these lights is they will last you for years and can always be repaired very easily.

Tungsten light is so clean, accurate colour reproduction where clients need accuracy. To me it's unbeatable. Used it as a pro for 35 yrs. Also with the Fresnel lense and power they have the have a long throw with the abilty to light large spaces.

Agree, in a world of LED's people forget the importance of a good tungsten light.

HMI is way better by the way.

I love tungsten, and HMI's, and love that i can get them so cheap now, 30-40$ a piece. Arri is a bit more expensive used, but honestly, the build quality of Strand/Ianiro, Sachtler, LTM is better. I got a 5k Sachtler fresnel for 35 bucks and 3 globes for 30. Two Arri 1.2k HMI with magnetic ballat for 50, well, one igniter was broken, but i could fix it with a transformer from a dead Kobold HMI that i got for free. Also an LTM 2.5k HMI fresnel with flickerfree ballast for 250... I don't really know when will i use them, but even if once a year, why not keep them in the stoage? The 2.5k HMI is still a viable option, a similar LED would cost thousands.
HMI's can be tricky to fix, so if someone is not experienced in electronics, stay with tungsten, bring it to an electrician or a shop where they fix household electronics, they can surely help with a lamp.

Thanks for the comment. There is a lot here to unpack like LTM 2.5k which is a great lamp but in the 120v world cannot be used on house power and smartly replaced by the M1.8 or the K5600 1600w Joker. I hope you continue to watch more great content from this channel.

      @@CoreCreativeMedia I'll surely do. :)
Here in Europe we have 230V in the households mostly 16A or more so no problem to run a 2.5k

I have one that needs to be fixed. I think there is an electrical issue. Any idea on where I can get it fixed?

These Lights are so simple to fix. The 1st thing I would do is check the Wires for any burning. If the issue is the light doesn't turn on then I bet it is the switch and needs to be replaced, of course that is only if the bulb isn't bad. If it is flickering on and off that could also be the switch, a loose wire inside the head, or the porcelain socket not making connection. A voltage meter with continuity testing can really help you locate the issue. Sending it somewhere to be fix is too costly. I hope this helps you out, remember to help me out by liking and subscribing if you haven't.

Here is a switch that you can use to replace the old one.
