    Thanks for doing this vid, much appreciated. You make it look simple. About how much one should expect a local (not chain store) shop to charge for doing all 4 rotors and pads?

      @737mechanic  6 месяцев назад

      It's hard to say because most shops will say there is more that needs to be done.

      @@737mechanic Yeah I just came back from one of these chain stores and the cost was $2157.00 parts and labor included for both rear brakes plus they wanted to save me $50 if I applied for their credit card.

      @@crystalstudioswebdesign Absolutely ridiculous. Order a set of front and rear rotors with pads and do it yourself for under $250 bucks. Here is a kit for front and rear from Detroit Axle for $239.00.

      @@737mechanic You know I think I'm going to build out an app where people can connect with youtube mechanics to guide them in doing their own basic repairs. Appreciate the efforts in making the tut. Thanks

    What always do is have my brother come help me: I'll have him continually spin the rotor by hand and I'll hit the rotor with a grinder/ and then again on the back side. That spinning action simulates being on a lathe and it comes out nice and smooth and uniform. Typically the rotors are fine and it just has that lip on the outer edge. I'll grind that edge down to the flat surface--- and then actually taper the edge back even more-- that way it can't ever protrude outward again.. By the time it does, you'll need new rotors anyway.... The key trick is to only grind while the rotor is spinning-- otherwise you'll never be able to make it flat and uniform. I've done this on dozens of my own vehicles and family vehicles for the past 20 years now-- and I've never had a comeback.. (I always re-lube the pins and add new pads also)

    For just street use, this will actually result in worse braking capability. Looks good, but that's the only benefit you get.

      Yea the only reason I got them is because I am cheap and I looked for the cheapest rotor/brake pad set I could find and this was it. So far I can't tell a difference but we don't race around like maniacs either.

      @@737mechanic I screwed up and put full ceramic pads on the wife's taurus. It doesn't stop for shit now unless I really get them hot. I'm going back to semi metallic.

      @@jagboy69 Yea I have heard of reports like this, I put ceramic on our BMW years ago because I was tired of the brake dust and was told that I would have to press harder on the brake pedal to get it to stop so I didn't tell my wife that the brake pads were different than the originals because I wanted her to drive it and I wanted to see if she complained so after about a month I asked how the brakes were and she said they was fine and she didn't notice any different. Now almost all new cars come standard with ceramic pads, my truck, our Camaro, our Lexus, and our wrangler all have ceramic, and they all stop fine.
