I have one. There was just no competition for the price point. It all comes down to finding the best one for your budget. I wanted a fun luxury car for around 50k. It was either this or the Stinger GT2. There is no better option unless you go over 60k. I'm just over 15k miles now. No regret except for the gas price. Another perk... this car is so rare, I get people asking about the car. I love it.

      April 2019, I purchased a 2019 Genesis G70 3.3.T.
So far, 68K miles and no problems, just schedule maintenance and a set of tires.
I live in Southern California, I have rear wheel drive only.
I didn't realize how much I missed a rear wheel drive vehicle.
I must admit that I prefer the new front end of the G70, but prefer my rear end better. And of course I would have loved to have the bigger infotainment screen 😁.
I get compliments almost every week, people asking what is it.
Now I know why Genesis wrote their name on the trunk!

Tell me your experience? I just purchased a 23' sport prestige silver with a red interior! So far I love it. I'm coming out of a 2015 Accord EX-L V6 Coupe and the g70 is a little narrow compared to the Accord. The interior is way nicer and beautiful. Loved my J35y1 honda v6 engine which was very quick but this motor is faster. Not as refined sounding to me but faster. Transmission is different in that it shifts quicker and smoother except when in freezing weather and still cold. Ride was relatively equal if not a little better in the Accord. Probably has to do with my all season pirellis and 18 inch rims compared to pilot sport 4s and 19 inch staggered with thin sidewalls. Back seat in my Accord coupe was way more comfortable and bigger with more room. Trunk in my Accord was way bigger. Gas mileage on my V6 Accord was around 21 around town but on my 1200 mile trip home to Texas I always averaged 34mpg. In my g70 I averaged 25. Plus my Accord coupe had an 18 gallon tank that I woukd get 500 miles per tank on the highway on long trips. I get 310 if I'm luck which makes me stop more often than I'd like. Changing my own oil was way easier in the accord and only required 4.5 quarts. G70 requires 7.3. So just a few minor annoyance but I believe worth it as long as the car remains reliable. So far it's been very good. Put together well too. No creaks squeaks or rattles. I do plan on switching out these tires to some pirellis or Yokohamas that offer better rain and snow traction and longevity. I don't use premium gas but I do use TOP TIER GASOLINE. Dealer has been good to deal with. It's not a stand alone genesis dealer as there are only around 5 of those but they do a good job.

Appealing sedan. Unfortunately, Genesis didn't follow the example of its cousin, the KIA Stinger in offering the 2.5L turbo 4 in the base version of the G70. A bad, very bad decision since it denies consumers an entry vehicle to the Genesis brand's sedans. • @JT-fq2bl

Genesis didn't add the 2.5t engine to the G70 is due to regulations and cost. That big turbocharged inline 4 engine will be taxed in Europe and China. The Kia Stinger is able to this motor, because it doesn't sell in those 2 regions.

The taxation on GV70/80 & G80 is probably cheaper in those categories. I do know the compact sedan category cannot have a base inline 4 engine over 2.0l without taxation. I wouldn't be surprised this is also applied to the v6 engines as well. I noticed the German brands 6 cylinder engines are no larger than 3.0l. This is probably the reason why the G70 only uses the 2.0t engine only. The next generation of German compact cars will only use 4 cylinder engines, and Genesis will go the extra step by going electric only.

It’s not that big of difference…correct me if I’m wrong but 3.5t engine has 375 hp/391 torque. I just purchased 2023 g70 3.3t rwd with both sport prestige and sport advance packages…one of these packages gives engine 3 more hp because of active exhaust (I know not a big deal) bringing up to 368 hp/376 torque which only down 7 hp of 3.5t engine although it’s a decent bump up for torque which is like 15 lb ft more, I believe.

Hi Alex. Thanks for the in depth review of the G70. I ended up buying a 2023 3.3 Sport Prestige a few weeks ago. I would say I preferred it over the German competition for some abstract reasons. One, the "all touch screens, all the time" approach that Mercedes and BMW have adopted was a total turn-off for me. Especially after BMW went even MORE touchscreen with their mid-cycle refresh of the M340i. Seems like this is a risk with Audi also, given what VW has done with the user interface of the current GTI. Two, since I prefer buying over leasing, I did not want to get stuck with German brand repair and maintenance costs once the car is out of warranty. Three, the G70 keeps getting described as similar to previous generation BMWs as far as its driving dynamics go. Four, I prefer the exterior styling of the G70 over that of the Germans, and you won't see yourself coming and going, since nobody is buying them. :D :D :D. Five, I have no brand loyalty toward the German makes, since the closest I've ever come to driving a German luxury car is a GTI and a Jetta. So, I don't have an actual driving experience in a German luxury brand, so I have no idea what I'm missing, other than the infuriating user interfaces. :D :D :D

g70 sales are struggling for many reasons.. don't think luxury car buyers are swayed much by "cheaper" alternatives especially compared to economy minded shoppers. most people who want a bmw/merc don't want an unknown brand made by an economy brand, it is the same complaint they have had over the years with lexus/acura/infiniti.. before the current turbocharging craze, infiniti surpassed many of the germans in particular with their compact sedan/coupe in the mid 2000s for power + price but guess what, they never got a substantial amount of folks to care back then. Now genesis trying the same thing, to beat the germans this time with turbos and similarly sell their models for less money. and i don't think they can really take many lexus customers either, many of their buyers are set on the lexus reliability and cost of ownership image, hard to see a significant amount of them trading that out for a new unknown brand with new sorta unproven drivetrains. acura/infiniti customers might be more likely to jump over to genesis but their sales have been generally quite abysmal especially for their current sedans so ain't like there were many to jump ship.. there is a reason why lexus has managed to lead the us sales race this year, their formula isn't trying to copy the germans and they retain their strengths.
