Just to be clear, my sandals are ~10.5 inches in length, from tip to tip. (I normally wear a men's 9.5 shoe size.) The consensus in the comments seems to be that with upkeep and preventative care (like reinforcing the soles), your sandals can last 5+ years. And while I didn’t do that (and never claimed to), I agree that it’s sound advice. Finally, some viewers have accused me of lying, but I stand by my reporting: two months (not weeks) of full-time RV living; that means active, everyday wear, often with dirt, gravel, and the elements, all along the Pacific coast. Thanks for watching.

Well your shoes and the box labeling clearly say size 41, which is a men's US size 8 or woman's size 10. Men's US 10-10.5 is size 43 EU.

I normally wear a 9.5-10 in men's, all of my Birks are 43. I normally look for 43 in any shoe. I find that the euro sizes seem more accurate. Even tho different brands all fit differently amd none are true to size, I find the euro size is a better place to start when ordering online. I even find all kinda of different US sizes listed on shoes when the euro says 43. I don't know how you even got into these at a 41 if you normally wear a men's 9.5-10

Try barefoot shoes since the toebox is the shape of your toes, not pointed like most shoes. They will allow your toes to spread out naturally and hopefully return your big toe to it's natural position. Be cautious though, if you're not used to being barefoot all the time, barefoot shoes are like a gym workout for your feet, and you don't go to the gym and bench your own weight on the first day. There is plenty of information on transitioning safely.

@@Thron2111 Not really wide, but better than regular shoes. I have Splay Freestyles on at the moment, definitely wider than Birkenstocks. • @BlueMountain2017

Thanks for your review. I love Birkenstocks but I have to take care with them because the soles wear out so easily. My nice pairs I don't wear outside at all. I have some pairs of used ones and the nicer ones I also just wear inside. The ones that I don't care about (that are well worn) I wear outside, however. But I think if a person wears nice ones outside best out to take long walks in them. This is from personal experience.I can't afford to get new soles for my sandals. And also I don't have a cobbler near me. Otherwise I'd get them repaired. You can put rubber pieces on them where the wear is I guess or shoe goo. I am trying those things to see how they work. I want to get as much wear as I can out of my Birkenstocks.

  • @RirtyDascal
    @RirtyDascal 2 месяца назад

At least you can get them resoled, as long as you don't wear the original sole down too far, to the point it ruins the cork. Take them or ship them to the nearest cobbler, and they may even suggest a leather heel or something comparable, if that part seems to wear out quicker for you. I love mine so far, and it does make me happy that they'll probably last me a VERY long time, just like the Red Wing boots I own. Habana Oiled leather is by far the best color in my opinion.

    I love my Boston’s.
I use em around the house and just to the grocery store really.
But the soles are just about done after around a year and a half.
The suede cleans up good too.
But I will say $160+tax is steep. And they’re never on sale. Unless it’s a hideous color.

I would also suggest an alternate shoe besides your Arizona. Even when they were bought by a diff firm the OG designs still have the corkbed that makes them comfortable once broken in. I also condition the leather, apply cork sealer once i noticed it thinning out. The outsole you can have replaced by a sturdier one. If you have an alternate shoe you can clean the insole( sanding paper was the best process I've seen so far than baby wipes).

@@TheMotomuras yeah but they haven’t just worn down quickly. Other than the back, your soles look fine. So it really points to poor gait/posture which is something you could improve and avoid the problem getting worse. Seems a bit silly to instead just say “works for some people not for me”.
I found out I had the same issue specifically from uneven wear on old shoes and a friend of mine who is a PT. Sorted it out and now my shoes wear evenly across the entire sole, plus it sorted some of the knee pain I was getting :)

Any cobbler can replace the sole for a pretty cheap rate, and many offer a sturdier rubber sole as an option.
With good shoe soles, the more comfortable they are (softer), the shorter they last. So it makes sense to have the softer sole at first with a shoe brand famous for being uncomfortable at first and being easily repaired. I wish the website would offer an option for a sturdier rubber sole at first, so the first resoling doesn’t need to happen for some time.

Bought them from REI, so I doubt that they’re fake. My wife bought hers around the same time from an independent shoe store, and her sandals also deteriorated. The big difference, I think, is that we wore them for full-time RV living-with no upkeep. Not regular city wear with upkeep (as many viewers like to mention). So our sandals had to deal with dirt, gravel, rocks, and weather all the time.

May I trouble you with one more question? I ordered the Birkenstock Arizona from the official Birkenstock website. Natural leather, regular width, regular firm footbed.
The size is perfect. So is the position of the straps. I can’t make it any tighter nor looser than what it is now. When I do either, I literally can’t walk.
Problem is - the skin of my left foot is literally getting peeled off slowly by the strap (the arch area / longer strap area).
      Any tips?
I tried wearing a thin socks but it’s not comfortable at all.
