- National Flatpicking champion Scott Fore dropped by the Virtual Woodshed recently to film some instructional videos. We weren't going to let him go until he filmed some of his contest winning fiddle tune arrangements. Here he lays down some tasty licks on the old standard Blackberry Blossom. Be sure to visit Virtualwoodshed.com to see more material from Scott!
And that ladies and gentlemen is why this man is a national flatpicking champion. He has a sound that reminds me of vintage Tony Rice and David Grier, with subtle hints of Byran Sutton here and there. He's like a really great wine. Unique but familiar. Don't spoil it by trying to say who was best, just enjoy.
Now that's Beautiful !
To me, in respect to the comment that was made about him compared to tony. In my honest opinion, Tony was a legend back in his prime, and yes people still look up to him today as one of the founding fathers of traditional flat picking guitar, which he was. I'm not by any means dissing the man. He was inventive, creative and technical... IN HIS TIME. In my honest opinion there are cleaner, more precise, technical and inventive players out there than tony ever was or thought about being. Hell tony would tell you that himself, as would Wyatt, doc and norman. The world is filled with amazing guitar players. And the one thing you have to keep in mind, and this goes with everyone who's ever picked up a guitar and from my own personal experience. There will always be someone who's a touch better than you. Not saying that in a negative aspect but with an instrument that no mortal man could ever "master" it is a given.
+Tommy Chandler I think you'll never hear the real TR until you listen to his jazz recordings (of his own compositions): Acoustics, Backwaters, Devlin, etc.
Every generation has their groundbreakers and its hard for some folks to accept that the heroes of the 70's and 80's are not as "cutting edge" as they once were. Every thing evolves. Medicine , technology, science , the arts, regardless if you were paying attention. We all just build on the shoulders of the monster players that go before us.
The steel string flat picking world in indebted to you for such insight. I am humbled to read your wise words.
