Every Marr riff is the definition of "Harder than it sounds". I can't tell you how many Smith's songs I sat down to learn, only to realize I'm trash or he's too good at writing catchy, complicated arpeggiated riffs.
Hahaha I know this exact feeling. Even here with a riff based around a couple of power chords if you lose the bounce even for a second or duff one note it’s gone. Man is a genius.
@@billybanter9573 That is a reductive, and probably incorrect assessment of his writing skills. That and the difficulty of keeping one of his bouncy arpeggio/string skipping rhythms going for 4 minutes of a song without screwing up somehow.
Thank you 🙏 Love the Smiths, agree that Johnny was a pioneer and genius, and yeah I’m here for your jokes too. I’ve been in drop D/C# tuning for a week blissfully enjoying No Q on my acoustic, but I look forward to learning my fave Smiths song. That opening riff has been all air guitar up til now. Makes all the difference. Thanks again!
Many thanks for this Sped. Great song and Jonny Marr a awesome guitarist . Will have to make some time for this one💯👍👍👍 Brilliant tutorial as always Cheers mate
such cool riffs and rhythm ! - been trying to figure this one out forever, and never gotten past the first part, and turns out there's some subtle stuff I was missing - so helpful, thanks so much, really appreciate it !!! - ( beautiful tone here as well as always ..., truth be told sometimes - not this time - I just watch your videos to listen to your playing )
Middle pickup, mad respect. I like what you did for the chorus section, that's my favorite way that I've heard to play it. Subscribed for more Smiths content!
Great lesson as always & great song, time for me to learn it all & not just the main riff. Johnny Marr is amazing and still putting out great albums. I saw some footage of him playing at Hyde Park recently on stage with Pearl Jam playing Neil Young’s ‘Throw Your Hatred Down’ & he was playing in a way you never normally see him play - tearing through pentatonic leads & yes, he does that really well too.
Only 3 main parts to this and they're relatively short! Whack those double stops in at the end and I bet you're done in the time it takes you to watch the video!
Nice one Sped. Love The Smiths and Mr Marr.(almost as much as your channel) Another excellent tutorial covering all parts and nuances. Liked the fact you broke down the outro too. Your magnanimity surpasses all the other RUclips channels for which we are all grateful.. Any chance of doing a tutorial on Alive and kicking by Lari Basilio ,plz I know your a fan if you can fit it in to yr busy schedule, go on you know you want to🤞🤞🤞🤞
Is it called Your Love?💜💜💜Love what Ive heard of her so far, Fearless, sunny days Shes touring Europe but either played UK already or just playing Spain ,Italy etc. Shes doing a guitar show in Norway next March (around my birthday hint) I heard you mention her playing on a podcast turn' that ₩¥$# down' and spent a while looking for Barry Vasilio lol. Appreciate the recommendations even if I initially misheard you
What Difference Does It Make? Well I quite enjoyed this tutorial, so I would say a rather large difference. Any Johnny Marr lessons are very well appreciated.
In my experience Metalheads usually have a deep appreciation of what into perfecting an instrument. Let’s just say a lot of metal isn’t simple right? 😂🙌🏻
Hey Sped nice lesson as usual I play this both ways The way it is on the record and also without the capo Interestingly whenever I play this in a band setting for a knockabout jam with people who don’t know what it is, they go nuts for it! Like a lot of Smiths stuff it can be very rocky and funky
Yeah a lot of people have already said to me they haven’t heard it. Yeah I’m aware he tuned up a tone for a lot. This Charming Man as well right? We’d all be entering string snapping territory there though… 🤣🤣🤣
Superb choice of song, thank you for another great lesson. Even though the opening riff seems simple, I'm struggling to get the transitions as smooth as you do!
I say this with luv. All your playing sounds Sped up. Ever heard that before? Bet not. I’m a creative type.😎And thoroughly enjoy your stuffs Good sir! 🤙🤙

ok looked (and heard) them up...but have to admit...i took time out of guitar and music in general in the 80s.... remember...i sold my precious "stuff" early 80s for house and family.....😪

Love to see smiths on the channel again! "Heaven knows I’m miserable now” tutorial would amazing or "you just haven’t earned it yet baby” thanks mate

@@phant0mdummy Waht ! Have you actually recorded in a real studio?.
When I hear the smiths I hear sanity and good taste with an abundance of light humor truth and melancholy
That’s the power they hold. All that from an A5 capo 2! 🤣✨
Can I get the Smiths with Morrissey edited out?
I love the way the 7th fret of your guitar look like the eye of Horus with the wood grain. Amazing tutorial Mr Shed! Thanks
Great lesson, thanks. Solid deadpan schtick too. Best lessons I’ve seen on the RUclips.

Awesome David! Thank you! Looks like I got you with a double whammy then. Two personal faves back to back. Will work on a hat trick. 😏
Awesome track mate - with awesome lesson and an awesome shirt! What’s not to love?! Thank You!
It is a nice shirt. Charity shop steal that. Walked in, it was on the manakin. Tore it off, straight to the till. “Iya, just this please love.”
Perfect! Funny, accurate and no fluff. Excellent lesson. Jonny Marr, genius with a bob haircut circa 1984
I've been playing years and still appreciate learning new things.
Great tutorial my friend 😎🎸

Well Ben, you’ve learnt it now, what difference does it make?🤣
Thank you, great lesson!

Haha, thank you! Glad you liked this one. To be honest, I should just teach everything I’ve ever learned all the way through. 😅

What a song. Despite me being a die hard metal fan I love the Smiths and I think that's true of half the metalheads in the world.

The intro hahahaha. Nice shirt m8

1. On Speds play through it looked easy
2. I know the song, heard it hundreds of times

4. 🤨Not as easy as first thought 🤔
It’s harder than it looks! Especially the picking matching his feel.

I got piano sheet music for Oscillating Wildly..its pretty tricky... been on it 5 years.

A breakdown of James Honeyman Scott's guitar lines from The Pretenders would be good. I wore out their first album.

It would be a little easier to follow along with a clean guitar tone and without the camera switching angles so much.
WHAT A CLOWN SHOW!!!!
This could have taken up 5 minutes with how basic it is
