    Yes, the bacon dish would be unhealthy for a modern civilian in peacetime eating normal foods. But this bacon was intended for a military young man in fit condition, serving in a high-intensity combat environment in very cold weather conditions. The bacon provides the necessary calories to for energy and to maintain body heat in very cold weather.

      Instead of bacon, quite recently there was “Шпик”, it was just lard with a small amount of meat, we added it to rice porridge or other dishes, like buckwheat porridge. It seems to me that even though it has improved, it is still better to add it to less fatty dishes before cooking.
      PS: After the army, this is the best choice for me for camping and the like, I love this food, it’s very tasty. Especially apple jam and applesauce.
      ----

      I also found information on how it can be used for purposes other than food, that's interesting:
      As already mentioned earlier, use in the form of fuel. With the help of bacon, you can not only speed up and facilitate the process of starting a fire, but also more effectively maintain its combustion. Lard burns quite quickly, releasing a large amount of heat.
      Use as a means of protection against moisture. Can be applied carefully to shoes or used as a water-repellent on some items of combat uniform.
      Use as a lighting medium. In the field, a soldier can personally make a wick lamp using fat as fuel (the combustion process releases a huge amount of soot and an unpleasant odor).
      As bait for animals (personally, I doubt the effectiveness of this method).
      As a means of healing skin in difficult climatic conditions, for example in frost.
      Lice control agent. In extreme circumstances, you can rub your hair with lard to impede movement and cut off access to oxygen for parasites.
      The salt contained in bacon can help with gum inflammation.
      With the help of bacon, you can increase the shelf life of other products. Again, due to the salt it contains and its water-repellent properties.

    This Russian MRE is a high-protein, high-fat, high-density, high-calorie food combination clearly intended for cold weather environments. Since Russian soldiers train in cold Russia, their MREs need to match the calorie requirements of cold weather climates and environments. This is when military rations need to be high-protein, high-fat content, and high-calorie.
    This Russian MRE would inappropriate for hot, arid climates, and humid jungle environments. It would be injurious to the health of the common soldier.
    The U.S. Army is faced with possible combat scenarios around the world in varying climates and environments. The typical U.S. Army MRE tries to reflect general adaptation for all climates. Still, the U.S. Army continues to contract for cold weather MREs due to the need for high caloric food intake in cold climates. But the standard MRE would work in cold climes but the American soldier would begin to lose weight due to higher calorie expenditure to maintain body heat.

    • @niktsyg9084
      @niktsyg9084 9 месяцев назад

      Or the American soldier could just eat 2 MRE per meal. that's will fix this issue xD

    • @jeffyoung60
      @jeffyoung60 9 месяцев назад

      Easier said than done. It would increase strain on the logistics system since twice the amount of MREs would need to be shipped. It might end up that way, of course.@@niktsyg9084

    To a Soviet Red Army soldier in 1944-45, this Russian Federation Army MRE would have seemed like a dream feast for a Red Army general. The Red Army soldier was fortunate in 1944-45 to be given boiled or baked potatoes, some rye bread, red beet soup, perhaps some butter, and if lucky, a can of American luncheon meat or Spam. That was it. But the Red Army soldier was eating better than his Soviet civilian counterpart.
    The Red Army soldier would have been constantly hungry. He would have been very tempted to eat this entire MRE ration at one sitting, although I think just two out of the three meals would have filled him. He would definitely have thought this MRE was commissioned officer's food only.
