Totally agree on everything. Good tip is to size up 3 from the rod weight if you are not sure if the reel is designed for DH in mind. For example; if I get a 13ft 8 rod, a reel that is made for wf10 or 11 is a good choice. Hardy made something clever with their marquis and cascapedia, up to a certain range they call them salmon 1, 2, 3 and then you know they are designed for DH. The Sage spey reel is hot, just a shame that they dont have sizes for 14ft 9 and 15ft 10, quite essential sizes for early fishing here in Norway. Wish I watched a video like this when I was new to the spey and DH world....

I was thinking of putting the big speedster on my 7126 ignitor. Do you think that would be heavy enough? Otherwise I was just gonna but the big Sage. I like big-ish reels and I've had great luck with Sage AND Lamson.

Generally speaking, rod/reel/line balance affects how you cast which then affects how you present your fly, and how the fish see it ...
