    with the season setting in would love to see a spot finding guide, since I've switched to fly fishing mostly been having trouble myself with finding decent wading areas in central/northern Maine but I'm also a big-time rookie atm. Love all that you do man keep it up.

    I discovered trout spey this year and absolutely love it. But the whole enterprise is pretty confusing. This was a wonderfully clear and concise introduction.

    Very similar to my setup, using the 3wt Hydrogen with my 7/8 Sage Spectrum. Love the rod.
    I wouldn’t use the floating MOW with the Scandi line myself, it would be hard to throw with the rear taper and there’s not much point as the scandi line floats anyways. Use it with the Skagit for throwing larger flies that you want near the surface.
    I’ll throw smaller flies with the Scandi and a long tapered leader. Skagit for everything else. With the lightweight trout Skagit heads a tapered versileader is a good way to go too.
    Another interesting setup is an intermediate Skagit head with a T8 MOW tip and an unweighted fly. I use this on my 7wt spey for winter steelheading, as the head sinks and tends to hold in the current better during a swing. Easier to cast than a floating head and a heavier sink tip or weighted fly.

    Great basic information,recivied a trout spey when I retired & love it,carrying multiple tips covers most any water type I come across in a days fishing,when purchasing a line agree but also don't forget to add the weight of your tips together don't overload your rod,tight lines & bent rods 🤙

    Thank you for this video & all the others. I've been watching both your channels non-stop recently, lol. I have an Orvis Clearwater 4wt & have only used it (for a year) so far. I'm thinking of getting an 8wt so I have both options for versatility.

    Awesome video Jesse. Was inspired by you to get a spey rod (Redington Hydrogen 3wt) paired it with a behemoth reel and took its first casts today at a local pond just to see how it felt. A lot of casting learning left to do but absolutely pleased with the purchase.

    Lesser length rods for more restrictive streams and an abundance of trees etc ?

    • @MainelyOutDoors
      @MainelyOutDoors  2 года назад +1

      Right, you wouldn't be using this in a 5 foot brook trout stream it will only work in medium to larger rivers. But because it works with role casts I can have trees a few feet behind me and still cast if they are not there
