Homeless Veterans Move Tents Onto VA Property

- Navy veteran Scott Baty and about 40 other vets who have been living in tents along a street nicknamed ‘Veterans Row’ are being moved onto property owned by the Veterans Administration. They will still be sleeping in tents, but the area has more security, plus regular access to food, showers and VA services. According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, over 11,400 veterans are experiencing homelessness in California alone.

I once saw an old veteran in his uniform sitting at McDonald’s sad and alone so I bought him a burger and went up to him and thanked him for his service he was so happy :)

This is incredibly heartbreaking to see our veterans like this. We need to do better for them that paid the ultimate price for our freedom!
No one asked them too and I know smart vets. These vets never did anything with themselves when they returned. We got 2 oceans and I have endless guns what makes people think I need an army?

No veteran should ever have to be homeless…… Or live in a tent. They should be living in comfortable homes, with plenty of food, being provided with medical care, etc. After all, they gave their all for us. Thank you to these brave men and women for serving our country!

Government provides them a check everymonth. Alot of these guys get over 3k a month tax free. Issue is they spend it on drugs and alcohol instead.

@@allaansnackbar4269 the only thing that saved me and my family from being homeless years ago was my tiny savings. I bought a little camper to live in until I could get back on my feet. Not EVERYONE chooses to be homeless. A very small percentage of people want that lifestyle.
This shows how the Government and Higher Official really look at the courageous soldiers as expendable items that after benefiting from the they just a abandon because they don't wanna spend a lot of money that they actually DESERVE! The fact that Homeless Veteran is even a term/word is heart breaking. They deserve more than a vacant/empty lot. It seems like its either you die in the battle field or you live to suffer in the hands of ungrateful higher ups.

You won’t believe what I’m about to tell you. But this property was purchased years ago to build 200 apartments for homeless veterans and it was never built. They keep telling everyone it’s in the process. I guess Nancy doesn’t care.

As a middle aged veteran, it does my heart good to see hope and compassion in those old veterans eyes. Those guys have seen far worse and deserve our best. I can still see those faces of my brothers who didn't come home. I live because of them. Never forget.

That's disgusting and poor form for these veterans who have given so much of their lives to be treated in this fashion. If it wasn't for them where would we be? Being from an unattended,unsafe and unsure environment like the streets they were, to a land with fences etc, this is a major improvement and i'm so happy for that. At least they will be secure, they will have better access to food and they will sleep more comfortable, compared to the previous conditions

I'm going through this right now. Been homeless since the 1st of November, a disabled veteran , and it's getting colder. Never thought I would be homeless, and can't believe there really isn't a streamlined process by VA to help veteran's. Maybe, I just never noticed till now when going through this. Homelessness sucks veteran or not.

They're homeless vets still sleeping in tents as winter approaches, yet they're grateful just to have a fence around them, so the public they protected doesn't assault/harrass them for being homless. That's just heartbreaking.
The military apparently doesn’t give it’s members that much income to begin with.
Vet here :) The direct payment to soldiers is indeed pretty low. But the indirect ways they get paid is astronomical. Medical insurance is provided while they're in. Many will use their GI Bill to pay for 100% of their college tuition (many state universities charge 20k+ per year). Some get injured during their time in service, so the VA sends them a check each month. Employers view veterans in a good light. Etc.
Not to say higher pay for enlisted isn't good. Just saying that there's more to it than meets the eye.
I live in Asia and I'm glad that our veterans here who served our country never felt homeless, because we value the word FAMILY
Our veterans should be a #1 priority! They serve our great nation! Now, it's about time our great nation serves them! They deserve the help, respect, & dignity. It is the least we can do!

Here in Russua, youll never see any veterans living in the street, bc the government here treated them as hero and gave them housing and allowance per month.
My grandpa faught in WWII , Now hes 93 years old and well and he still get allowance per month and free medical bills.

Welcome to the cleanest, safest, and most cooperative homeless camp in existence.
Maybe ask the VA why my attorney had to hire another attorney to force them to re-read my medical records from Desert Storm.
It was amazing how I got service connection a year later after fighting the VA over reading 20 pages of medical records since 1992.
Not even an apology for the 6 homeless years in there.

I think you should park your tents on the white house lawn. It's easy for the government to be at a distance, but up close and visible. That's a whole different story.
