  • Hi everyone, is this still a good starter / beginner or upgrade EUC in 2022? I cover this and more in my comprehensive deep dive 4000km review of the Inmotion V11 Electric Unicycle.
    correction:
    I say 20" wheel but since measured it at 19", 2.5" x 2 tyre depth + 14" rim.
    The reason i call it a 20 is because this is the same tyre as used on the sherman which is called a 20"!
    plus 80mmx.9x2 / 25.4 + 14" rim =19.7"

    Man, I just stumbled upon your channel. I'm gonna get a v11 because of this review. Concise, fairly objective, and very well thought out. I wanted to potentially get the v13 because of the hype. I'm a new rider, and your point about growing into the wheel and getting an all-rounder type of wheel really makes sense, especially since I won't know what kind of style I prefer until I'm more proficient. I also really appreciate you taking the wheel apart and showing the upkeep of it. It kind of opened my eyes to the fact that this isn't gonna just be some toy I can leave unattended. Thanks for this video.

    Bravo. This a great all around V11 vid.
    Its nice to hear feedback from a rider with close to the same mileage/km Couple of things. I didn't think the squeaking was a thing but squeak as well. I believe its due to pedal(inmotion honeycombs) and hanger wear and it started around 3km. Its coming from that area. I sprayed lithium grease on the pedal shaft and it went a way for a couple of rides.
    Another, never had problems with the switch. The wheel needs to be nearly upright. I've ridden through heavy rains and not one issue.
    Last, I do a lot of seated riding and I have pads. I comfortably sit and stand as you do. These newer style pads now stick out near three inches from the wheel so all leg movement has to happen within the pads. That's not going work well when you want to sit. My Clarks are thinner so its easy to move over the pad when i want to sit.

    I have watched a few times now. Coming from a progression of v10f then MSP and trying to decide my 1st suspension wheel. I was very satisfied with both previous wheels. Cost the V11 and T4 fit my want for budget. Spec wise the T4 better fits my progression less the 16 inch wheel but my riding needs may negate that,,,I think, at 56 my bronco days are past, just light trails now.
    Anyway, thanks for such a thoughtful vid.

    I agree with you 100 percent! It was first wheel. Easy to learn, comfortable, maneuverable and nimble as you make it. Trails??? I haven't been disappointed yet. I can't speak about other wheels Yet,but the Inmotion v11, is built tough too. I Punished it,but aside from cosmetic damage,it hasn't disappointed me. I have it two years and can never badmouth it. I'm just ready for that V13!!!

      @jonoeuc  Год назад +4

      Hey i'm combo responding to your V13 vs S video comment here too!
      well said, I really want to ride some other wheels to get a feel for them. I forgot to mention in my v11 review that I nearly got a V12HS. The chooch hype was convincing. Lucky I went to a learn to ride day, tried a v8f, KS16x and ks18L. The smaller wheels felt very familiar and comparable to a manual unicycle. good for throwing around and nimble. I rejected that! wanted a new experience and something more solid for cruising, which as you put aptly begin to behave more like a motorcycle (due to the large gyroscopic stability). the v12hs weren't being sold at the time due to waiting for new improved v12ht mainboards to prevent cutouts.
      Cheers! jono

    Thanks for the thorough review. New EUC rider here. Also on V11. What specifically did you do to eliminate downhill braking death wobbles?

    • @jonoeuc
      @jonoeuc  Год назад +3

      Hi Caliman, i'll try to explain (need another video for it!).
      The style is similar with or without pads. Essentially you want to add direction and input into the wheel by slightly carving. Watch back 13:21 and see the slight carving. This will feel far more significant while riding than it appears on the video. It's a really awesome feeling, with pads, once you get the hang of it.
      Firstly do you have rear power pads? This helps determine the style required. Because I have pads I want to get my calves back into them while braking. This is why I don't squat here, instead bending more at the hips. Squatting is for harder braking and not suitable in this more relaxed downhill braking clip. squatting in a downhill section actually moves my calves further from the pads which I don't want.
      It is possible to simply lean back standing straight, to apply pressure into the pads with my calves, still using a slight carve is best practice. Try both and use what suits you best!
      let me know how you get along.
      cheers jono

I think even with top tier studded foot plates it's kind of dangerous without something to clamp down. About the V11 I tried it a few times but hated it. It feels so limp and underpowered and pogosticky. I just don't see it. I have yet to try the V13 but the only Inmotion wheel I can stomach is the V12HT.

I was looking at getting an EUC for small commutes / last mile solution but does having a hard 25km/h cap kind of wreck that in your opinion?

    • @jonoeuc
      @jonoeuc  Год назад +1

      Hi, this is such an inflammatory topic in the community atm I'm reticent to comment.
      I'll say that no it hasn't detracted from eucs for me.
      It has made me ride my escooter less.
      I'm regional, if i was in brisbane the experience may be quite different.

    Strictly speaking, if you could already ride a normal unicycle, then you're well ahead of the curve. Most beginners drop their wheels constantly while learning. The V11 is a great wheel with great lights but it's also quite a fragile wheel, moderately expensive and with high foot plates. Wouldn't a 2nd hand wheel, like a V10F or KS16S, be way better for someone taking up the sport?

    • @jonoeuc
      @jonoeuc  10 месяцев назад +1

      Hey Mike, I have taught two mates on the V11. The first one I emptied the suspension which drastically lowers the pedals. They were riding in 10-15minutes. Rode 50km that day including seated riding. (they had manual unicycle experience.)
      The other didn't have unicycle experience nor did I lower the pedals. He was riding around in about 15minutes. slower progression but was soon doing longer laps around.
      If you are not athletic, accident prone or a smaller person / child then sure a smaller wheel like you suggested is wise.

I've had an issue though about the last 4-5 months with the balancing angle where it keeps moving either a few degrees forward or backwards and it makes the ride very uncomfortable. In other words it's not staying 0 degrees level as it should and it's random as to whether it leans forward a bit or backwards. I've done a hard reset many times and it does nothing. So it was disappointing when our second wheel came in with friction in the suspension regardless of pressure, a slightly twisted frame, a kickstand hinge which digs into the wheel, a motor that vibrates when at a stand still, and what I can only guess is a mosfet issue because the wheel wanted to roll itself backward anytime it was upright and not in motion on a flat surface. How can all of this escape quality control? I'm giving them one more chance, but this is disappointing from a brand I considered high quality.

      riding and braking:
      Don't be afraid, tenses you up into poor form.
      Slightly carve, gives input to the wheel.
      Transitioning to braking:
      Danger period. Move quickly to proper braking technique. Dont linger inbetween accelerating and braking form.
      braking:
      Practise squatting behind the wheel, arms out front.
      Lean into power pads if you have them.
      Generally avoid straight leg lean back braking particularly down hill.
      Practise somewhere you're having these issues with these techniques in mind. At speeds that are reasonable ofc!
      Once you start getting the hang of it you can deliberately bring on wobbles just to practise getting out of them.

      Hey uuzd4,
      apologies, good point!
      Self balancing wheels cannot keep accelerating since they eventually run out of sufficient power. (why most EUCS are so powerful vs other electric rideables)
      Tilt Back is a safety feature which notifies the rider they are at the upper limits of the wheel. It does this by noticeably changing the angle of the EUC, lifting the toes and lowering the heels. This is very obvious when riding and naturally encourages you to shift your weight back and slow down.
      Only certain brands offer this, Inmotion EUCs do! it's always on for the upper wheel limits. It can also be set lower in the phone app by Inmotion. Possibly by EUCWorld and Darknessbot (untested)

      @@robertbarel896 I somewhat agree with your points but the QC/Design balance issues are far more complicated than we can imagine from a consumer's perspective. Organic growth requires patience and enthusiasts will eventually prevail and nurture a stable product line.
      Jon's point about gear needing to cost more than your wheel is 100% on target; don't ride at any speed/conditions unless you're willing fall, crash or slide without being comfortable with the thought of injury/protection under the worst case scenario, PERIOD.
      Owning any EUC should be like owning a loaded AR-15 weapon, one should be able not only to handle the use but also be able to strip down, maintain, repair and reassemble the equipment without hesitation; this goes for all EUC models. {I'm not a gun owner but appreciate the discipline.}
      Wheel quality should improve faster than new riders can learn, so the KS16x and Inmotion V12HT are great options. the V11 was a valiant first attempt at suspension and is loved by most owners, and the V13 and Sherman-S have great potential.
      My perspective is that no one should buy a new model (EVER) unless they're willing to cope with the worst case scenarios or until that model has proven efficacy or that it is sufficiently repairable. The KS-22 will make and awesome used wheel for those willing to upgrade almost every component in the system, and this should have been anticipated by anyone considering its early adoption. I expect to get an used S22(ver.1) in about 1.5-2 years when the community has thoroughly vetted its maximum potential. The V11 has gone through this vetting and is a great wheel as long as you're willing to be as intimate with its maintenance/repair as Jon has demonstrated in this video. Marty's video's demonstrate a patient and methodical approach to EUC stewardship and the rewards are reaped continuously. Kevin (EUC Upgrades channel) is also a wealth of knowledge/experience.
      The hype is also not generally the fault of YTers, rather it's an artifact of market forces that are beyond our control but it is hard not to get sucked in as a new enthusiast.
