    My lincwelder 225 has an onan CCKA. It sure runs smooth. I added a low psi electric fuel pump to avoid the old diaphragm pump dumping fuel into the crank case and it works great.

    • @5Tractorguy
      @5Tractorguy  5 лет назад

      Nice! Just for future reference, you can still get the mechanical fuel pump diaphragms online if you search ebay for them. About $20 in change...

    It sounds fantastic, and I can't believe how well balanced it is - hardly any vibration. I have a John Deere D140 with a 2-cylinder Briggs - it's only about 3 years old and it vibrates a lot more than that one!

    I got the same intake setup on an Onan generator definitely not my favorite to work on, but it's a 5 KW generator that's been to Hell and back and still runs and putout perfectly fine.

    • @5Tractorguy
      @5Tractorguy  6 лет назад +1

      Nice, these are great generator engines, bit thirsty on fuel but good none the less. Too bad they didn't design the carburetor mount bolts different so the manifold could stay on.

  • @crankysports
    @crankysports 5 лет назад +1

    I'm working on one right now off a sears that had rust in the rear cylinder from water through the intake. I hate how people just let these things sit outside with no air cleaner on them. But, thats how we get them for a fair price. A bit of know-how and some elbow grease and it's worth every minute

    • @5Tractorguy
      @5Tractorguy  5 лет назад +1

      'Tis... Seems to happen more often than not when someone stops halfway through a project/repair. It's even better when they leave the head off and let them sit, had a Cub like that last year.

    YOu did GOOD, Jake! Id've wrung every bolt on that block off! Hope you find a crank too. Sweet runner. Can't beat an opposed twin sound OR run. The Vanguard on the Craftsman is still purring right along and they have to be tough to take what that one took. Not by me though! Hope all is well up there and you're not froze out. Had some ice down here last night but the rain ran it off. Glad this one was non smoking but I was sure worried when you drug out the ice chunks. I got a 4-horse Snapper and a plastic cam 7.75 pressure washer wannabe but the Snapper runs now and with all new fixins the washer will in warmer weather. Hope you're getting some 5-string time in, Pal! YOur Tarheel Uncle will not be pleased if you loose out on that OR Tarheel me, for that matter! Keep warm and pick me a tune!

      Lewie! Did ya stumble upon the 2018 Archive video before this one? At 21:58 I do some brief pickin' on the 5 string... Starting to get out and pick more since the turn of the year. Getting together regularly with a couple guys from the area. Also went to a big bluegrass jam 2 weeks ago and got invited to play a gig May 11th. Have to see if I can get someone to grab some video of that. Good to wading through the bluegrass again....
      It's a chilly 14deg this AM! Figured I'd sit here, answer comments and do some paperwork, give it a chance to "warm" up outside.

Stay warm and keep on wearing that 5 out. I'll be waiting on a fixing or a picking video. Your choice and HI 2 that Tarheel Uncle of yours from another one!

    • @5Tractorguy
      @5Tractorguy  6 лет назад +2

      That 16 never ran quite right though at high throttle or under a load, I think due to the carburetor still being messed up. Since that CCKA runs nice I'll take a chance on it... worse comes to worse at least I'll have the Kohler to put back if it doesn't!

  • @regsparkes6507
    @regsparkes6507 6 лет назад +1

    Just love the sound of a twin cylinder engine. When you get it all done and ready to go,..would you entertain the thought of a dual outlet muffler? They make a cool sounding engine ever better.
    I sure do hope you find the proper crank. for this one, you're correct in saying that it would be better to swap it for the present one.
    BTW,...18 to 20 minutes is good for a video like this. It sure was not boring for me, at least,....my opinion only, of course.

    • @5Tractorguy
      @5Tractorguy  6 лет назад

      I will! Was thinking of putting dual stacks of some sort on either side of the hood. No straight pipes of course (can't listen to that all day plowing), but something along the lines of a Farmall Cub stack muffler, I think it would look and sound neat.
      Me too, I can't tell you how many 450 cranks I've seen on Ebay over the years and now that I need one, there's none! Good, that's what I was figuring for time. 15-20min is still reasonable to watch...

    • @regsparkes6507
      @regsparkes6507 6 лет назад

      @@5Tractorguy Yes, those twin pipes would sound great, I'm sure.
      On that topic of straight pipes,.I often wonder how folks with those pipes on motor cycles can hear themselves think, after an hour's run on those so equipped 'bikes'!
      About 6 years ago, I drove a brand new Harley with those pipes on it and had to get it back to the guy a s a p, just to save my hearing! So yes, running your tractor with them would put your hearing at risk not to mention your sanity.
      Re. the non-availability of crankshafts,..same story for me too,.." Oh, I could have gotten that for you, but it was sold a week ago!" How many times have I heard that line?
      Keep looking, though,.you'll find one soon,..hopefully.

  • @localcrew
    @localcrew 5 лет назад

    I have one of these and the 816 it came from. The flywheel loosened up and wallowed out the keyway. Might just weld the flywheel back on and let ‘er rip. Love the Onans - hate buying parts for ‘em.

    • @5Tractorguy
      @5Tractorguy  5 лет назад

      That's a pretty crappy predicament! Nothing worse than worn out key ways on stuff...

    • @localcrew
      @localcrew 5 лет назад

      Yeah, the keyway could be worked around but the iron hub on the flywheel is pretty much shattered so it’s been rendered useless without some remedial welding. And even then the whole thing would be pretty dodgy. Too bad because the motor has low hours since a quick and dirty rebuild.

    Hey man, quick question. In your opinion what is the best way to de-carbon a piston and top end? I took apart my first Kohler k181, never been this deep in motor.

    • @5Tractorguy
      @5Tractorguy  6 лет назад

      Hey Kyle, best bet I've found is a razor scraper, picks and small wire brush. That's what I use to clean everything out. Razor you can scrape the top of the piston and block/cylinder head off, picks I'll get around the valve heads and seats and wire brush to get the rest once the heavy stuff is off. Careful with an aggressive wire brush on the piston though, it'll dig into the aluminum.
