Australians care a great deal about our Flora and Fauna, so it’s important to respect the Environment and the Animals. We are proud of our Country, and we enjoy sharing it with Visitors, and if they respect this, then Tourists will have a great time.
There are many diseases that animals and plants have that do not exist in Australia eg; rabies. That is why many foods/plants etc. are prohibited from entering.
I think we Aussies started the whole dangerous animal and insect thing as a bit of a joke😊 but I think it’s backfired on us as we have to explain all the time to travellers that it’s not that bad realy😇😇😇 it’s all about common sense and doing you’re research on all of the country first. It’s hard to do that I know because you still get people exaggerating and mislead you.
I watch the Border Security show, the excuses people make for hiding food are just crazy, "I didn't know" "mum did it"! One lady tried to pull the stuff back then tried to eat it so she wouldn't be fined - they drive me nuts, they legally signed 'I have no food'! Be respectful to all! Get legitimate healthy food for the wild animals! Swim between flags! Keep Australia Clean! Watch AFL! Don't say burger, try local! 🙋👍
And to add to what you’ve mentioned, our Customs declaration form has been translated into the most popular foreign languages. There’s no excuse for not understanding the form…
@ I was one of the Immigration officers at Sydney Airport for 10 years (the ones who do the interviews in the offices, not the primary processing line). Fortunately I left just before Border Security started, so no one recognises me. It’s amazing what people bring in their luggage. We were looking for something unrelated to food, as were the Customs officers. We would refer certain cases to each other if we discovered something that was within their jurisdiction, not ours. Interesting work but the long shift hours were hard.
That backfired in Australia. Terrible coffee Starbucks. Big mistake by Starbucks and very arrogant move to try and compete with the best coffee in the world especially in Melbourne.
Australia recognises drivers lincences from majority of countries. But after 3 months you need to transger it to an. Australian licence. There are intetnationsl licences also that will cover you in the countries that recognise this licence

Save yourself heaps of hassle just dont bring food , plant or animal products to Australia
We have a lot of water parks here for people who don't like swimming at the beach.

The biggest danger to international visitors is not driving to the local conditions.
You have to declare your life at customs! Everything where you were born, what you do for work, all your family members names etc 😉
