Aussie here. The price of alcohol in Australia is deliberately set high by the government, to deter alcoholics on low incomes from buying (and drinking) a big quantity of grog in one go -- which could potentially kill them. The same goes for cigarettes. The high price is to deter young people who are just of legal age, most of whom are on low incomes, from becoming addicted fast, because of alcohol and cigarettes being too affordable. And the strategy has worked. Young Australians today are not taking up drink and cigarettes in the numbers that they used to some decades back. And for those people with an existing alcohol or cigarette habit, they often consciously moderate their consumption to keep a cap on their spending -- which means they get to live longer.

In defence of Bin chickens. I live on an island with a large Ibis population and I've never seen one near a bin. They are down by the seaside eating the best this country has to offer. Or at my front door with the Curlews getting hand fed fresh meat. I like them.

Lotta Ibis near me too. And I sometimes see them standing on a bin or hovering near them. But most often they are hovering around people's tables at cafes or down by the beach...just waiting for them to leave so they can jump up on the table and get the scraps. Unlike the "sea" gulls....who don't bother waiting and just swwop in and take it from your hand if you're not careful.

With the beer it depends on whether it's bottles ,cans and where you buy...a carton of stubbies(bottles )can go as Hight as $70 a carton and cans in a 6 pack can be $25...but other beers can be much more..and rent also depends on where and type of housing...Sydney and Melbourne of course all housing is expensive,I lived in a 1 bedroom apartment in Prahran Melbourne that cost me $375 per week but now I'm in a 2 bedroom apartment in Adelaide with backyard, enclosed 2 car parking space and only 13 km from the CBD and I'm paying $150 per week with polished floors ,twin person shower and huge lounge and dining area,3 bedroom houses 35 minutes from the CBD can be found for as low as $375 a week,I even found lots of 3 bedroom places in the blue mountains in NSW for between $300-$400 a week and even his info on not being able to get Centrelink on any visa is not quite accurate...if you take a fall for as example in a public place and end up with a permanent disability that's the responsibility of the Australian government and a permanent visa holder is then entitled to a $1075per fortnight disability pension for life as the injury occured while in Australia,I've already checked on this for an American who lives here now and gets that payment .and yes your supposed to carry your licence but police have the discretionary powers to overlook it as long as when they check when pulled over they can see on their system you have a valid driver's licence...and like you I do not like the cold as I'm not built for it either so let me say Darwin night time temperatures don't usually drop below 20c and in the south Adelaide has a Mediterranean climate and doesn't get as cold as Melbourne but the nightlife sux and there's not much to do in Adelaide but Melbourne does have a great night culture but it's also a dumpster fire of a city and I say that after living there for 7 years...trash everywhere, graffiti on every wall in every alley,a huge heroin problem,a massive homeless problem, food is made for over 6 million people each night so the quality is not as good as a smaller city like Adelaide where more time can be taken ,Melbourne also has a huge crime problem,it's an old city with an ugly factory skyline on most train lines and most of Australia know Melbourne people have a huge entitlement issue and bag all other cities and try and steal anything they can, there are protests every day there,Sydney is a busy business city and money is required for almost everything,Qld is a beautiful state but has a huge issue with constant floods in their rural areas and even in the CBD of Brisbane...it is extremely humid in Qld and can get quite wild with storms that roll straight of the coast....here's the jist...for young people it's Melbourne,to raise a family, retirement or peace and quiet it's Adelaide, for beauty it's both NSW and Qld but also for the wealthy, for year round warmth it's Darwin, for nothing but crime it's Alice Springs and for complete isolation it's perth

Ambulances in NSW are not free like in Qld but the cost is small relative to the US. My daughter had to be transferred by ambulance from one hospital to a specialist hospital on the other side of the city and the cost was $650 and was completely covered by my insurance with no co-pay, but cost of both hospitals, treatment, meds, overnight stay and surgery was completely free with Medicare.

The Bin Chicken, a recent American traveller walked through Sydney Botanical Gardens (no research) saw them and said "wow these must be the native birds, cool"! Yes, it pays to do some prior reading and planning! Yes, do check local temperatures, if it's 26° in Canberra it doesn't mean it's 26° in Thredbo! 🥴 The UK could never have kept Ross occupied, we love him here, keep them coming Ross! 👍 Melbourne! 😏 That's what they're growing in ACT? It's certainly not good financial management! Buy a slab, it's a beer economy! Some people are paid weekly! 😁

In the state of Queensland, ambulance and emergency services are covered by the state government. Even if you need an ambulance while visiting another state you will not receive a bill.
In another states you can pay a small annual fee to be covered. I think less than $100. And some people who elect to have private insurance may also be covered under that.
And I believe pensioners and health care card holders nationwide receive free ambulance.

Western Australians over 65, who do not receive an Australian Government pension, are entitled to a 50 per cent discount off the cost of ambulance services.

Most sell only when they are closer to 40, but beer companies hate their "percieved worth" to be seen as that cheap, so they pressure sellers to keep up prices like 59.99, to trick people into thinking they are worth that. In Aus you will be looking at 15/6pack and 45/carton, meaning you will usually get an extra 6-pack when you buy a carton, and its all so dear to begin with so you might as well
