  • We return to "5 Minute Reviews" to find the same old host still at it...oh well. This time, the Reviewer takes on a very short lived game show. This is a 5 Minute Review...of "Blackout"!

    Always interesting hearing about forgotten game shows.

    Great review, and lots of fun! I agree, a very unique premise; a shame it didn't get more airtime.
    This one reminds me just how much I missed the set recreations- especially after introducing my wife tot he pilot episode. Keep 'em coming- I love this show!

      No worries, I haven't done away with doing set recreations entirely! I'm just saving those for the big production "Game Show Reviewer" episodes. Using the Canyondale News Set lets me get these side show reviews produced quicker while still looking somewhat professional.

      Makes sense. Easier to squeeze in a few more of 'em before Linkara manages to find himself another starship. ;-)

    A Blackout remake might be a good idea in 2017. It would certainly be thematically appropriate, considering information access and invasion of privacy are such hot-button topics these days. Then again, I could easily see this as a rotating segment on Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show. It all depends on whether some hotshot producer out there thinks the concept is still worthy of carrying a whole half-hour. (Personally, I don't, but from what little I've seen of the show online, it certainly seems like it could have gone on longer than it did here in the States.)

    Who knew Bob Goen had a mustache? I'm glad he had a long run as host of Entertainment Tonight, but in terms of hosting Game Shows he was "The Heartbreak Kid." All of the shows he hosted only lasted for around a year or so. The shows were Perfect Match, Home Shopping Game and Wheel of Fortune. My 2 personal favorites he hosted were Born Lucky and That's The Question.

    Nice work Captain. Can't for the next installment. Which I think Wheel of Fortune is next. Kind of interesting that this review was done before the Wheel of Fortune review as Bob Goen went on to host Daytime Wheel after hosting Blackout.

    Well that was a shame for Blackout. Great work once more there !

    I can actually say this is one show I never heard of. And that was Bob Goen hosting? He sure looks a lot different from when he hosted That's The Question almost 20 years later.

      Don't forget that Bob went on to hosting Daytime Wheel after this.

    Great episode, but I have one little nitpick (that always drives me up a wall when you do it)... It's pronounced "premise" (rhyming with grimace) not "primize" (rhyming with demize).

    I'd never even heard of this show! Great job, GSR! It's funny that this show replaced and was succeeded by "Pyramid," since they both had the celebrity/lay person pairing. Part of me wonders if that was done on purpose to try and appease "Pyramid" fans, or if it was just a coincidence.

    'Modern Day Remake, anyone?'
    HELL, YES! Bob Goen as host with Rich Fields as announcer! Have it and Supermarket Sweep replace The Talk on CBS!
    Premiere Week: Melody Thomas Scott (Young And The Restless) vs. Jeff Probst (Survivor)

    • @Grid17Productions
      @Grid17Productions  7 лет назад

      I'm on board with that idea! Of course, I'd want David Ruprecht hosting Supermarket Sweep again!

      The payouts would have to be increased:
      $500 for each correct guess, Progressive jackpot that starts at $50,000 and increases by $5,000 each time it isn't claimed.
      Still 20 seconds to describe the word, but 5 seconds of base 'Blackout' time with a 3 second penalty for each illegal repetition.
      Clue Screen: 7 answers in 90 seconds

      same here. as i do game shows at anime cons, i don't thing we could pull off doing black out. and i don't think david would come back. they would find find some one new.

    My idea for a modern day remake would be on CBS Fun & Games (since ABC once did it), that would air after the CBS Evening News on Saturday Night. The lineup would have Blackout, Whew! and the Price is Right's Million Dollar Spectacular. After those games, there should be a brand new season of How I Met Your Mother. Anybody like that idea?

    Nice job as always Reviewer, i wish this show got more of a chance too. I have a question though, what did you think of the game show 1 vs 100?

  • @sproy1
    @sproy1 7 лет назад

    So, when do you plan on doing a review (whether it be a full review or a 10-minute-long review that you call a 5minute review because F.U.) on the Password series of game shows? The whole idea about guessing words based on clues given by celebrity partners really got me in the mood for a Password review!

    • @Grid17Productions
      @Grid17Productions  7 лет назад +1

      I think only a full length review would be appropriate for a show like "Password" and its many spin-offs

    • @sproy1

    I like these shorter reviews a lot; I welcome more of them if they're easier for you to do.
    There needs to be more game shows that let opponents interfere with each other.

    You're probably focusing on 5-minute reviews because they take less time to edit, right?
    Also, yet another "Five Minute" Review that's over 10 minutes long.

      +jricci9 Yeah, I'll have to avoid that word in the future. I had heard it pronounced that way somewhere and thought it was correct. Should have said "basis" or "concept" instead...
