  • Peony planting bare root in the garden. When you take bare root peonies out of their packaging you may be at a loss as to how you are supposed to plant them.
    I show you how I am planting my new peonies directly in the garden but it is the same in pots so if you can't get them in the ground right away go ahead and pot them up. You can plant them out in the garden later.
    Peonies grow like weeds here and are a fantastic early bloomer that brings not only beauty but a sweet scent to your cottage garden.

    Hi, I am Pam of FlowerPatch and I grow in a Zone 8a in the mountains (though many times I really do believe it is closer to a zone 7 with my microclimate). Welcome to my channel and all that I share. I only share my personal experience in the garden. Successes and failures. Gardening is never "one size fits all" and there are so many variables that can spell out success or failure. I choose to garden organically with nature as my guide. I want my garden to be beautiful but also a haven for wildlife. (except the bears, they are just too destructive around here)

    We built the shed during quarantine! I’ll hopefully be posting video soon. It’s an amazing plan! Thanks for making it available. ❤️🤗

      I am excited too, peonies love it here and they should do very well as long as the snow plows stay on the road and don't plow into my garden. (it has happened)

    Nice. We bought an unusual whitish variety a couple of years ago. It flowered once, poorly, then the second year the bud never really opened right and had some kind of infection or pest. I like peonies so might give it a try again but with red!. Out Scottish weather seems like yours.

      I like your spirit. Try, try again. That is my motto too. Usually, I find out I needed to adapt my method to fit my area.

    the more peonies the better in my book haha I ordered bare root peonies before and it took 3 years for them to bloom 😫

    • @FlowerPatchFarmhouse
      @FlowerPatchFarmhouse  3 года назад +1

      Exactly, 3 years is the average from bare root. Sometimes you may get a piddily one or two before that but typically it is a 3 year wait. The only way to get earlier ones is to buy them already potted up but for the price of one potted I got 6 bare root. So I am willing to wait. 😉

    Hi Pam, getting excited for spring planting here in 7a. Could you tell us about that neat digging tool you are using?

      Hi Joanne, yes that is called a Root Slayer and works fantastic. I put a link into the description box at the bottom. I found mine at a local Tractor Supply store and I am sure other hardware stores carry it too.

    Love your beautiful little garden house and gardens. I too adore peonies. Where did your purchase those awesome tubers? They are the biggest and healthiest I’ve seen in awhile. I gotta get in shape to catch up on garden chores, lol

      Longfield Gardens is where I got these. They do send the healthiest plants. One of the best places for mail order. Also, here, Costco carries them but they sell out fast.

    Which ones did you buy? I watched your clematis video and I had gotten the same kinds however you made me all giddy, so I went back to get some more. Long field at Costco is almost cleared out within 1 week they came in. I was able to get 2 bags of Iris Ensata Cheesecake, but I had a bag of peony in my hands too and now I regret not taking it

      This peony collection I ordered online direct from Longfield Gardens. Yes, Costco does sell out quickly. I had my sister look for another item for me when she went back to Costco a week after I did and 3 huge racks full were now barely 1. We live over an hour away from the nearest Costco so it isn't like I can hop on down there easily and maybe that is a good thing, at least for my budget. That Iris sounds gorgeous. Here is the exact collection I that I am planting in this video: www.longfield-gardens.com/plantname/Peony-Double-Assorted-LANDSCAPE-SIZE

    Question Mrs. Pam, I bought potted Peonies in the spring, they had buds but they did not bloom it just shrunk and drop the bud, also I got big potted peonies and only the Itho Peony bloom but not all my Itho's can you tell me what am doing wrong, they were planted at the level that they came in the pot if not a little higher. thank you kindly.

      It was probably just shock in transplanting and as long as they are alive they will recoup and bloom. It does take a couple years to really get going with blooming but once they have established they will light up your beds with beautiful flowers.

      Oh, thank you, it has gotten a bit out of control as I haven't been to a hair dresser in a long time. My soil has been nurtured for the past 20 years. I have chickens and that does help a lot.

    I have never planted peonies
    These look like all roots
    No shoots
    How do I plant them

    • @FlowerPatchFarmhouse
      @FlowerPatchFarmhouse  Год назад +1

      Then you do have a conundrum, if you have no eyes it is hard to say if the plant will even thrive at all. If you recently purchased them I would take them back but if they were gifted to you then plant the roots you have an inch or two below the soil and wait, or try starting in pots and keep a close eye on them to see if they develop or are a dead bunch of roots.
