    I'm a mail carrier and a hobbyist woodworker. For a while now, I've wanted to build my own bluetooth speaker so I can either listen to audiobooks or music while I sling mail. I really appreciate your videos for the ideas they give me. Now if I can only put those ideas into action and make something that works for what I need.

    I love this build talk, Kirby. Thanks so much for sharing. I definitely would have never started to even think about building speakers without your channel. Also, the quality of your videos and the way you set it up: R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Keep up the good work. Hope to see a lot more of you in the future!!!!

    Hey Kirby, great video. I think it would be really cool with a video on how to tune your speakers with foam. I'm in the process of swapping out the drivers from a set of speakers I've had for fifteen years, into some really cool cabinets I found at a thrift store - the ones from the thrift store was filled with insulation and the ones I took the drivers from had none. Would be cool with a video about what stuff like that does to the audio :)

    Hey Kirby, I love the idea for your the new format. For the sound test piece, I would definitely add something to it. I would think that most people watch these videos on a device without exceptional sound quality(e.g., iPad, laptop, phone, etc.), so the audience isn't going to really experience what you do while taping it. I like the idea of using an RTA. Also, maybe you could incorporate your subjective opinion on how you would re-tune the speaker to get it closer to your ideal expectation of that particular build. That is, your expectation of sound from the stacked plywood build would be very different from a 3-way tower, so you could let us know how you re-tune the speaker for its intended use. You could touch on different ways to go about crossing over or internally sealing a specific driver. I love your content, and I'm looking forward to the new format. I'll definitely add suggestions on your next build talk.

      hey mate, love your videos, i know you mentioned that you have already spoken about the tweeter being mono....but......is this just on one speaker or did you put it across both speakers? Love the idea of a basic crossover, i will be trying the 4.7uf cap for mine and those DA tweeter

      @@KirbyMeetsAudio Also could you say why the components fit together? I might sound stupid but I dont know how to select the power adapter and power jack to make sure they will work with the other speaker parts now that the power adapter is out of stock on the parts express website. ie what specs do you have to look at to make sure things will work and not burn other components out.

    Hey Kirby, your videos are greats, thank you for coming back to us, i have some suggestions, for future videos.
    - Build videos:
    2.1 powered speakers.
    speakers with remote controll, so that you can use them on a TV without an external amp
    Small and medium portable speakers with batterypower.
    Speakers for Pc/mac, or upgrading/tweaking speakers.
    speaker stands
    speakers speakers/wifi speakers
    and one that i really really want to see round speakers, like amazon echo or the new bose speakers
    - Buildtalk videos:
    would be nice to see you make your own crossovers and explaining how to made it, for different configurations. LIke this speaker, where you have woofer tweeter woofer.
    Go a bit indepth why you chose, those components, like why you chose aluminum instead of paper woofer and what the difference might be
    Talk a little bit about bass heavy speaker and how make a highpass and lowpass filter.
    prehaps talk about bridging 2 amp together.
    Maybe add a few commentary on you build videos.
    Anyway, i hope that you take some of these into your consideration, and once again thank you for being back and huge thanks for great videos.

    I think that the videos are unique with music and video presentation and no voice. It'll be cool to have one week of the "no voice" build and next week would be a recap and voice over on that same build for explanations. This will keep the viewers interested. One day I will have a channel and try things like this because I also love to build things that serve purpose. Thanks for you videos on speaker building. They are truly inspirational.

  • @julesbilodeau4851
    @julesbilodeau4851 7 лет назад

    Although I am one of those crazy audiophile and I strive to refine my technique (both woodworking and crossover designing), I think it is amazing to show to all how amazingly easy it CAN be to design and build a decent speaker! I love the idea to have a 3 weeks plan with build, talk and test! I already love your build videos (literally speaker building porn!) I also love those talky-talk videos where we learn to know you little better! I am definitely interested in a recut, commented version of the build videos! Make those more "in depth" with why you chose this mid and why pair it with that tweeter, and what crossover and why... The cool thing about that is that on more intricate build, it is going to explain more about the science of speaker building, but also, on more "basic" build, it will really show how simple it can be! It won't leave us with the feeling that theres some magic happening behind the camera that you don't show!
    Love the channel, exited to see it grow! Cheers!

      @KirbyMeetsAudio  7 лет назад

      +Jules Bilodeau It really is amazing how this hobby can truly grow with your skills. It can be as easy or as complicated as you want it to be. I think I’m going to recut a build video or two with commentary as a little test. I’m pretty excited to dive a little deeper into what goes into planning out a build. Thanks so much for always watching and for your kind words, Jules. You’re the best!

    It would be awesome to see you build a speaker with some reclaimed wood that had some cracks. Fill those cracks with resin and add some internal leds or glow in the dark dye to the resin and see what type of look that could have. Just an idea, it might be dumb but could turn out to be really cool. Keep it up, the content is awesome.

    Hey Kirby. I really enjoy your videos mostly for the woodvorking though as I tend to enjoy sound from larger speakers. I would really like to see you mess around with a TL-build one of these days. Could be fun. As you seem to enjoy using Dayton Audio drivers I know they make some quite nice full range ones that could work nicely in such a box.

    Kirby! The video was great! I would plan it out a little more next time, but the concept is good! The new mic sounds great! As for your builds, I find them super relaxing and awesome, but it would be nice to have some commentary. I find that without the commentary, you miss out on some of the decisions that had to be made in the build process, and leaves some questions unanswered. I think you could achieve both your chill video style while adding commentary by doing something similar to Chris Salomone's build videos.
    Love your stuff! Super Inspiring! Excited to keep watching! Keep it up!

    Hi Kirby, I like your videos, especially your info on the electronic components and aesthetics. However, I feel you don't really share on details in design for sound quality. You could share more on the design process for enclosure size/type/fill, channel splitting, speaker size/power/position/orientation. Another thing you could share on is energy efficiency for battery powered speakers: important to maximise that. Again, thanks for sharing your work. Your channel rocks.

    I've been checking out your videos and they are awesome and a lot of help! One thing I was wondering - Do you need a cross over if it is a full range driver, or can you connect the driver (like the Dayton PS95-8 you recommended in another video) right to the amp that you mentioned in this video as you don't need to split the signal. I'm brand new to making speakers and would like to make one as a wedding present (I'm a decent wood worker but brand new at doing speaker components). Thanks for all the info so far!

    Any chance of a video on making 2 Bluetooth speakers or more which aren't connected with wires? So you can have surround sound....speakers in each corner of a room but no wires between them?

    • @KirbyMeetsAudio
      @KirbyMeetsAudio  7 лет назад +1

      +ColourFreeStyle Unfortunately thats cant be done with Bluetooth. It can be done with WiFi though. I’ve done a video on multi room setups in the past, maybe it’s time to revisit!

    HEY KIRBY. Thanks for all the vids. Got me inspired! I have one quick question though. What power source do use to power the the amp board? I have looked around a bit and the 12 volt and higher voltage power supplies here (Australia) are somewhat expensive. Curious...

    Maybe include a video shoot of your camera while recording, so a recording of your recording. Hopefully you understand what I mean. I will like to learn what goes in your mind when you are setting up your camera before you start recording.

  • @Klonkiller361

    Speaker Building for beginners is really just putting a box together and put the drivers in. I refurbished an old Bookshelf Speaker. I literally just laid the speakers on a sheet of paper and said that that where my final dimensions. Easy! It sounds better than expected. And it only cost me like 20€ and is way better than any other speaker for that money.

      @KirbyMeetsAudio  7 лет назад

      +Klonkiller361 I was always surprised how good my speakers sounded when I really didn’t know what I was doing at all. It’s only as hard as you make it. Thanks for watching!

    This is the speaker I'd like to see plans for: Has volume pot, on/off switch (I'd like to have a pot style on/off switch in addition to the separate volume pot ), AUX IN (which could play aux input simultaniously with bluetooth input), wall power supply, as far as I can see, other plans do not have all of these elements combined.

    You could take a page from Primitive Technology and add descriptive subtitles to explain your steps.
    Also, showing the formulae you use to determine capacitors and inductors for crossovers, maybe even for your amp circuit, would be great

    It's obvious that the two woofers are split between the two channels. What about the tweeter? It looks like that's only getting signal from one channel.

    • @videoscrapheap
      @videoscrapheap 7 лет назад

      I haven't seen any way of doing that with the Dayton Audio KAB-230. It seems like you would need to do that at the source which means, if you're using bluetooth, switching your phone to send only a mono signal to the amp.

    • @KirbyMeetsAudio
      @KirbyMeetsAudio  7 лет назад +2

      +videoscrapheap One channel has only one woofer, while the other channel has a woofer and the tweeter wired in parallel. Not the best for audio quality, but it’s simple! Thanks for watching!

    Why two woofers and one tweeter? Why not 4 woofers and 2 tweeters? Is there specific number for volume room or enclosure? I have 4 Onkyo speakers I was going to scavenge drivers etc from and wanted to build a bluetooth / rca soundbar. Do you angle the drivers differently to fill a room differently? Lots of strange questions I think of as I watch your videos... Thanks for the content

    • @KirbyMeetsAudio
      @KirbyMeetsAudio  7 лет назад +1

      +ziggy8757 Each is better for different situations. The DS’s can’t hit the top end frequencies so they’re better suited for a 2-way system. The ps95s dons great job at the mid to high frequencies, but lack bass. Thanks for watching!

    When I'm building some active system, I always face the problem with sound background created by amp's power supply. Is there some solution for this problem in Your mind?

  • @TheLarsfladmark
    @TheLarsfladmark 7 лет назад +2

    Ok, super rookie on the speaker electronics here, so might have a stupid question. If the amp is stereo, I'm assuming power is half to the right, half to the left. But you have 3 speakers. I assume that you aren't doing left woofers and right tweeter. So I guess my question is how are you powering the tweeter without over powering it or underpowering one or both woofers?

    • @KirbyMeetsAudio
      @KirbyMeetsAudio  7 лет назад +3

    How about making NON-wood speakers? Metal, plexiglass, carbon fiber? that would be neat :)
    PS: commentary would definitely help, but you can also do just text commentary marking each step. Video is greate, but breaking it down into steps would help show where the break points of the build are.
