Wow. What a great, great video. Above everything, you're saying something different than everyone else, and you impart so much credibility by your past experience and down to earth attitude! Thank you so much! I wish there were a part 2 --- in fact I could watch a whole series of this!

Brilliant. I get quite alot of clients complimenting my analogue sound because I have some expensive bus compressors... but I only work ITB for mixing clients. XD

The EQ tips were invaluable brother. I've been using different eqs on different channels (because of options & ignorance ya know) not realizing that's part of the reason why some things aren't blending as they should. This definitely was helpful. Thanks again

This is brilliant. I also put a tape emulation on each track between the two EQs, to have even more of a full analog "chain". With the plugin window link in Logic you can even keep all the plugins open and always have the plugins for the selected channel ready. Super fast workflow.

    • @RedLuxeStudios

I use a 8-bus mixer as front and back-end to my interface; a whole slew of the same pres, eq... each buss into a interface i.p., pretty much 2 VCA comps and other fx unit inserted as well, staying for parallels on mixdown (my setup rn is practically an early 90s project studio except for no tape/adats... many stuff turns out to be from the era).
I often calibrate my mics and "tape returns" like you quoted on 25:30. From the board I record the mix to a 2nd interface as a "master recorder" (mostly out of necessity), going through the 1st gen dbx 166... wonder if you used that one xD
One other nice thing to get the ever-elusive analog sound is commitment. GIRATS as quoted on the video and to sum mics on the way in. I've learned a lot this way. In the pre-pandemic times, I often recorded live bands, at first 10-16 mics direct to stereo, later 4 to 6 inputs. EQ reverbs and everything but the kitchen sink. Got amazing results using one channel of a lowly 3630 inserted on bass and the other as a drum parallel.
Anyways, the kicker for me, more than the sound is the speed and readiness.
Cheers from Brazil! Many thanks for such precious tips and enjoyable time.

I use harrison Mixbus for this reason. You end up using the channel EQ and comps for 90% of the sound, then I use a few main plugins on the busses out to main mix.

I'm doing the same right now. So fast and I really like the EQ's. Not super excited about the channel compressors but the tape emulation is great. For a tape-effect sound the SketchCassette plugin is awesome.

Thank you Sénastien, it’s just the way I talk! And I also swear too much 🤣
But it is something I’m aware of, and the term ‘guys’ particularly bothers me (but not James so much, different generation I guess) so I always try to make a point of saying guys & girls… but that leaves a lot of other gender identifications out, doesn’t it? I like the InCamera RUclips channel… he always starts a video with “Hello humans!”. Maybe we could start doing that… but that might upset the cat!
