Cj singh you make a "phase invert cable", which is a normal balanced cable in which you invert the + and - signals in one of the sides. Then just patch the signal with that cable.
VERY interesting on reversing polarity on the cable... never thought of that but it makes sense doing it passively like that, i bet it does sounds better
The polarity switch ought to also be passive I would think, but I guess sometimes those switches corrode or start to wear out and result in a compromised signal; so the less of that happening in the chain, the better? No such issue with hard wire. She is such an audio nerd, I love it.
She's the first person i could find that explains how you would use an analog mixer with a digital gear/daw. I had my clues, but no one had confirmed how it actually worked. Thank you very much! Does this mean that you cannot change adjustments, like the EQ you set on the board, afterwards in Protools?
@ 5:12 Two mic's pointing at each other does not cause phase cancellation. The phase cancellation happens if you have a sound source between the mic's that produces positive air pressure toward mic-A while producing negative pressure toward mic-B. If you mic a snare drum with one mic on top and one on the bottom they will be out of phase because the snare drum produces opposite pressure on top and bottom. I believe a snare drum produces symmetrical pressure in the horizontal plane so if you place two mics pointing towards each other with equal distance from the snare drum but placed in the horizontal plane relative to the snare drum they will still be in phase.
this is so cool. do I have it right? If I take a patch cable thats phase reversed, and patch out from a half normal then I can get my MS sides phased canceled at the patch bay, and this sounds better? must try..
