Tip #4 in the real world, we generally brake when the driver ahead reaches the braking point. If it's someone we don't know or are unsure of where they will be braking, we brake a tad earlier to be safe. If it's multiple cars ahead in a line, we plan to brake way earlier because things will stack up. That's a "feel" situation.
This is feel like a basic knowledge, everyone would get after rear-ending an entire car pack at the begining of the race ones or twice. Yet still, some people in the sims feel like they are having hope, that they would somehow overtake all cars from the end of the grid via braking at the most optimal distance...
Just started with iRacing recently and working through Rookies currently. Best bit of advice I can give is patience. Lots of Rookies crash and spin on their own when you are behind them putting pressure on them. Wait for them to make a mistake and you do not even need to risk the overtake unless you are a lot faster than them.
I didnt know this was my problem until i switched to driving GT4s from LMP2 and GTP (and ive gained a ton of iR too), but i was being "too nice" it was opening people up to take risky attempts on me. Once i started being consistent and just racing and trusting faster people not to hit me, things started just working out better.
Cheers bud! All the incidents in the lower splits really turned me off racing for a bit but i realized that i just have to get better at avoiding them so this helps a lot :)
I have never thought of practicing to take the corner on the inside. That could actually be a game changer during racing. At the moment I have to take a pessimistic guess on where to brake during overtaking or defending, but with practice I could actually know where to brake and win more of these battles.
I only stopped crashing out on lap 1 after I started racing others on my out laps in practice. Some folks hate that, and I always apologized for mistakes, but it was the best way to learn how to keep the car on the track and safe while in a lap 1 pack.
I get your point of view, but if you can’t keep a cold car on track, racing others shouldn’t be your goal. I know you’re likely past that stage now but learning how to control your car on an out lap should be a baseline skill developed on a clear track (at least not with cars around) so that crashing on lap one should rarely be your fault. It’s good to know that there’s method to some people doing it and isn’t simply arrogance when people do this 😅
In my book avoidance of 3-wide is usually "avoid 4-wide on straights", "avoid 3-wide in corners". Use extra indirect cues for awareness, eg. if seeing afar dust hit in air or yellow flag, even if not always slowing down, rise attention level to potentially slow down or evade in other way - as these may signal of car going off track (even if one doesn't see it yet), thus either mass crash ahead, spun car blocking trajectory, or potential unsafe return. Also preferably driving outside in two-wide first turns as offering more evasion options (it's easier to go off track if on outer trajectory by easing steering, whereas on inside almost no way "to turn even tighter" due centrifugal force working against". And hack of abusing rear tail lights to scare off ones behind to keep distance in start train prior first turn by light braking sooner or light braking while still not completely off gas, for braking light to lit even while one hasn't yet maxed out braking.
I would add to the last one, do not be afraid to change plans mid race. I have been in a car Inam not comfortable with or a track I generally do poor at and started out with the plan to survive. Then things go well a few laps in and I change to more of an attack plan.
Those are generaly really nice tips for beginners, love it! However I don't agree with the tip of hiding rating. I'm mainly superformula driver on iracing and sometimes the ratings in lobby can be from 2k up to 9k (not many people racing) seeing a rating of cars around me gives me more information about who am I racing. For example when I don't get a good quali and I'm going up through the field seeing a 2k driver in front gives me more confidence that my move on brakes will work as I expect them not to be as quick and I want to overtake them asap. On the other hand when I see a 9k driver appears in front of me I expect that he had some issue in quali or at the start and I will simply stay behind without because I know that he will not hold me up and it would only cost us both time to fight.
9:50 I also recommend doing a full stint (or however long the race is) on a solo track so you can get used to tire wear and fuel usage before doing an AI race. It helps a lot.
I wish iracing had a radar like gt7 though. Also, FFB crash effects are not a thing in iracing? Your mouse wiggle there didn't show what to disable... ?
GT7 has the best radar of all of them including all the paid overlays. You can almost drive with only the radar mid corner, squeeze and defend, position yourself and know where you are in the corner. It's pretty good for awareness, I wish there was something similar for us single monitor users in iracing.
@@voongnzasseto Corsa has a radar overlay that looks like a top down 2d race game, each car is fully rendered as a 2d sprite lol.. it is actually really good but as i race in vr I went with a more minimal radar
Tip 14. 1st lap is the one to be cautious on. In 2 races this week at red bull ring I've not qualified well and got p13 or so, which can be carnage in the 1st 2 turns. But I held back a little and got in the top 10 after a missing crash in T1 I would of been part of. I will try the mirror FOV also, good tip. Just bought your corse on Black Friday deal so some great tips in there too.
I was a victim to a tunnel vision driver and I chose to go three wide around one of the bend of the nordchilife, I have space and was on the curb of the turn and nothing happened but it made one of the drivers upset bc it was risky. And he ended up wrecking me next corner and blamed that on me bc I was side by side with him but he had way more track than I did bc I was on the very edge of the road
unfortunately i only have a 16:9 single screen and my biggest problem is simply that i can hardly see when someone is next to me. a large fov in the rear view mirror makes the vehicles appear so far away, which is also irritating.
9:03 but racing everyone equally would make me a terrible racist Btw i'm 90% sure you're romanian, if so hi, i'm also from romanian, just joined your discord today.
you cant actually do anything about dive bombs... Brake normaly? -S1 hits you at full speed Brake early and slower so they have more time to react? -S1 hits you at full speed Brake really really late so you will end up in the gras but you avoid being wrecked by another car? -S1 hits you at full speed
@@spayrex_ Then you have to get out of rookies. Ignore the tip to not start out of the pit and just finish races without incident points, you should not care about irating only safetyrating.
