Ever AC I work with has their own gear in my market, but I don't necessarily expect it and have a decent package with my camera in case they don't
Same here. But sometimes you are lower on budget and they simply need to adapt. Non of them is happy about these usb c versions :)
In general ACs all have their gear.
If the DP owns the camera, we own FIZ and monitor for us. Those are our tools to do OUR job in the ideal way.
I have been thinking about buying the pro kit but I am hesitant for this exact reason, whenever I am on a big set, me telling my AC what wireless focus system to use just won't fly. However I do think the lidar will be amazing for simple tracking push ins, the amount of takes I have needed to do in the past because the AC loses sharps for a split second is a nightmare.
@@jamesalexanderbarnettdp9479 you set up your crew to succeed of fail.
Push ins takes at worst 3-4 takes. One to get the pacing of dolly, one to match operator, and one to match them all.
I have been in situations were the DP opted for AutoFocus lens, only to waste time fiddling with settings to get it right, which basically would have been spent getting and extra take to nail it all.
I don’t expect my DP to be infallible, and he does mistakes, that’s why I am there to help. That has to be mutual.
That said I have heard this sentiment from DPs that never pulled focus, so…
@ I honestly think other manufacturers will make this auto manual focus thing I really think it makes sense, maybe when more established brands start developing similar systems then it will get adopted by people like yourselves, sadly DJI although making good progress I still don't think they are taken seriously at the top end of the market, even though I think a lot of there products could fit in well if given the opportunity.
@@jamesalexanderbarnettdp9479 as an AC I don’t trust their motors. That is why I am only using Hedén motors, or Preston. Because they ALWAYS work :)
@ Yeah USB-C as well for power isn't the best. I really think it will be good for lower end productions but will be interesting to see how things unfold.
All of these videos are showing the high bright monitor with the T bracket mount but it doesn’t come with the Focus Pro combo or the monitor transmission kit. Where did you get yours?
that's a great question! I'm also looking for an answer to this one. The high bright monitor mount does not seem to be an actual product, but we can see it on the videos and it's in the focus pro manual.... mysterious!
@@justinh.5239 I had to contact DJI and they are sending me one for $195 even though it’s not on their website. It’s a special part order. Three-Channel Follow Focus Monitor Rotating Bracket is what to ask for.

Every AC I know has their own gear and charges a kit fee.
How did you get monitor bracket. My focus pro all-in-one combo kit do not have bracket.

Is this something that a novice focus puller could use and monitor the lidar tracking but regain control if a focus rack was needed? In thinking about trading my nucleus m for one, but I’m not sure it’s the right call for professional jobs
you should not expect your ACs to bring their kit (monitor, focus unit) unless a kit fee is paid. if you decide to bring you own gear as a DP without compensation that's your choice plus there is a self interest involved since you probably wanna invest in your portfolio work. but that does not apply to ACs in the same way. Maybe it's a little different here in europe though, people rent more and own less than in the states i guess
about the dji focus, I am very confused how they expect this to compete with the Nucleus M which is cheaper. No lemo connectors, no handle grips which can be used on normal rosette arms, no positional adjustment on the motor clamps... maybe it's more reliable? i mean DJI's hand unit looks better for sure
Can you set a manual focus point while it is in autofocus. The do rack focus with that setting?

The handle is to heavy on a hand rig with that battery sadly and the focus wheel unit is a little to plasticy to me to dive into pro gear.

It's a fantastic setup DJI has come up with here. But it surprises me that they haven't worked on a better design for the Lidar part. Who is the target audience for this product? In my opinion, this product is super suitable for a one-man band, probably standing with a smaller camera, and here it would be great with a design solution so that you could mount the Lidar on a top handle. When I see your screen here on the side and the Lidar on top, it quickly becomes a Christmas tree solution 😉. Thanks for the nice review 👍.

Most ACs in my market have a basic kit, but often rent my 1st AC Kit out to production to make sure it’s up to snuff.
It also applies to other jobs in my opinion. When you’re working as a construction worker, you’ll most likely have your own hammer and power tools maybe but you definitely won’t bring your own excavator to the job. Regarding the whole system, I think it is more of a niche product since it only really makes sense if you are shooting with manual lenses.
And as you already stated yourself, if you are a solo shooter, you’ll probably just go with the auto focus of the camera and be done with it
On Union shows in the grip and electric department they give you a “box rental” That adds on top of your hourly rate. It’s usually $25-50. Basically it’s just your tool belt. Things like wrenches, headlamps, circuit testers, etc. But no one expects you to bring stands, lights, etc. unless they’re giving you a daily or weekly rate for that.
