That is the tool I was waiting for by DJI. The gimbal is great, but not always needed/useful. And to be honest, hiring an AC or manual focusing myself is not always possible either. So this is really a gamechanger. A big step forward from the janky solutions which were possible put not really practical. Thank you for the great deep dive.
Great tutorial and thank you for sharing! Is it possible to use DJI Focus Pro on lenses with AF? Sometimes the AF in camera is thrown off and I have to refocus. Can the AF system in cam be turned off to use the lidar in Focus Pro? I have Sony a7s3. Hope this isn't a silly question
Sure thing, the LiDAR on the RS3 can totally work with the Sony A7S3. The Focus Pro is like its own separate lidar unit, so yeah, it can definitely be used with the A7S3, no problem.
Thanks a lot Chris. I’ve finally got my full kit :) however I can’t find the DJI Power Hub 😐 can you please share a link! Thanks again! Really appreciate it 🙏🏽
Hey Chris. Great video - Questions for you. 1. Since the DJI bracket isn't available to the public yet, can I use the DJI transmission without it, to get the focus peaking overlay? 2. How do you set up lenses with only fiz hand unit and lidar and Ronin R2? 3. Can you use lidar with ronin r2? Thanks!
Dear Sir they way you explained everything in this video wow fantastic no one can go wrong thank you very much for fantastic video i got one question what is name of Power cable hub where from i can buy it i can’t find it
Nice tutorial! I ordered the Hight Bright Monitor and The Focus Motor All in one combo but the T bracket monitor mount is not included and it’s not on DJI website, where did you get yours?
So far as I can tell, its not available separately. The previous focus control seemed to have it included, & i’d guess he reused that for this video. Unclear.
I watched about 20 videos about this This is the first video I fully understand Very strong intro with explanation of everything and straight to the point , thanks
nice video for sure! though i will never ever understand - why they didnt make the hand grip have a rosette attachment - why they didn't use lemo cables - why they don't let us adjust the position of motor rod clamp - why they didnt just put a screw hole into the lidar so ppl can easily use noga arms like everyone has been doing for years with cinetapes etc like they are just barely missing out on a much larger client base
Great video! My only remaining doubt is if you can use the focus pro hand unit with like a Small HD monitor or you need to use theirs? I already own a small hd and would love to just get the hand unit, LiDAR and motors but not sure if that’s possible.
Amazing Video Chris, thanks so much! Even if I calibrate and set all the distances, the lens doesn’t focus closer than 1 meter. As soon as the subject comes too close, it just does weird things… have you had the same issue?
Try going to the range that it won’t focus on and adjust your installation distance. I found that I can sort of fine tune the calibration that way. Just adjust the distance until their eyes are in focus while it’s tracking someone’s face.
@@chrisherr thanks for the quick supply and the help. I will try to adjust the installation distance. Maybe it was also because my Lidar was too far in front of my lens... Thank you!
@@julianbogner7235 Id say keep the lidar behind the front of the lens and as close to the barrel as possible, otherwise your object will go out of the frame of the lidar very quickly, and the angle from the lidar to the subject gets weird and hard for it to calculate.
Hi Chris can you help me to figure out how to map a zoom lens into the Lidar? Do you have to map each focal length on the zoom separately? whats the trick? Cheers
I was also having this issue. Is your lens parfocal? Im using the sigma 18-35 and I’m still in the early stages of testing but I calibrated it at 35mm and when I did it seemed to be working for the entire zoom range 🤷🏻♂️. Did you figure anything out since posting this??
Great video. 3 questions 1. When are these actually shipping? 2. Does the focus handle Bluetooth work with the Komodo-X for run/stop recording? 3. Can you run focus and zoom motors off the focus handle and keep the wheel to zoom and leave the lidar in AF at the same time? Thanks!
1. April 22nd is the estimate 2. I don’t think it will work with komodo but I haven’t tested that. Worth trying. I’ll do it in a follow up video. 3. Yes, you can use autofocus while having manual zoom control, I do that in my other video with an Angineux 15-45 about the RS4 pro and focus pro.
Unfortunately it doesn't know where in the zoom range you are, but I did find that if your zoom doesn't focus breath during the zoom then it still works. Just harder to be accurate on the tight end of the zoom.
2 Questions: where can I buy 1) the bracket to attach the Dji high bright monitor to the Dji Hand Unit; and 2) the cable hub used in your video? both are mentioned in your video. Thanks.
Hi there Chris, awesome video. What cable did you use for powering the cable hub? Is it a normal p-tap/d-tap to 7P LEMO? We’ve got the new cable hub but the cable for powering from d/p-tap is not included.

does this work with RS4 as well as RS4 pro? the way DJI marketed the RS4 and RS4 pro, it was super confusing whether or not this focus pro would work with the RS4
Can I use more additional calibration points? Lens helicoids behave quite differently and I don’t trust the interpolation for such huge distance changes. Also, will there be pre-marked rings that lens map any lens to that?
At this point it’s just the two points, I agree they need to add some more data points in there. And as for the rings it’s not like the Preston, you just have to mark up your own. Definitely a lot to add for V2 of this system to get to that pro level.
They’re very close to the speed and torque of the motors were used to. It’s impressive. I’ll be doing a follow up video putting them on a 12:1 to see how they keep up compared to Preston and Heden motors
Hey, question about Alexa 35 build. What about start/stop? Can you connect it to the camera somehow so you'll be alble to start recording from the knob controller?
it's a pitty the DJI Focus pro isn't using the DJI transmission technology, you can view video blocks away but can't control focus over the same distance (not even close)
It’s more about at what zoom length you do the calibration. It’s a tricky one, what I’ve done is do the calibration at the middle of the zoom range, then zoom all the way in and while in autofocus mode go and adjust the installation distance until their eyes are sharp. It’s a good way to tweak your calibration.
@@chrisherr Thanks. Thats a bummer. Would be amazing if the range gets extended to the same amount as the video transmission can do. Isn't it doing this when using this setup with the inspire 3 and RX Monitor?
