The only reason to wait 5 hours to plug in is because the manufacturer doesn’t want you to slug your compressor. I’m a certified refrigeration technician. If your freezer has been sitting upright at the place you bought it from and brought it home and installed upright, you can plug it in immediately. Refrigerant works in a circular cycle and will work itself out through normal operating conditions, but if somehow during shipping the unit was tipped over, refrigerant over filled the compressor and turning it on immediately will break your unit. Just know that if you had it shipped directly to your house, then wait the five hours. If picked up from a store upright, then plug it in immediately. The manufacturer is just trying to protect themselves from having to replace your unit. I hope this helps.

It is recommended a dedicated outlet in case the same breaker goes to other things that may cause an overload and the breaker trips causing your food to spoil while at work even though the freezer will keep it cold up to 24 hrs it can cause freezer burns and not good for the breaker or other electronics having a power surge or immediate discharge.
Hi there, thanks for the instruction. One question though, I have to put it in the garage where it's dry but not sure it's ventilated enough. Is it a good place to put it? Also the temp will be more than 110 for a month or so in our summer in AZ.
khoiquach Thanks for watching, these are the manufacturers recommended temperature parameters. We also have ours in garage however our garage is properly heated throughout winter. As long as you have a 2 car garage or larger, you shouldn’t have any lack of required ventilation for your freezer. Just keep in mind that the manufacturer sets those temperatures because they have done numerous amounts of testing with temperatures outside of the parameters and they have found that the freezer does not operate as efficient as it would when within the recommended parameters... and freezers encounter additional self-induced harm and abuse when operating outside of those temperature parameters which ultimately leads to your freezer breaking down and failing earlier than it should. Hope this helps. Please subscribe to the channel and Ring your RUclips Bell 🛎 that would be awesome thanks again! 😎👍🔧🔩
Garage is fine. When the garage gets really warm it may effect the speed it freezes based on how much you open and close it. But under normal conditions, I wouldn't worry.
The temp parameters are 0-110 degrees F. Garage could get hot but near your inside door along with insulated garage doors not facing the morning sun should be good but not perfect. I put mine in the cool basement.
I know 15-20 amp dedicated breaker is what it calls for and if it's like my room standing a/c it would be around 9.5 amps. 1 reason they want you to only advance 1 setting every 24 hrs after the 1-3 initial start up even though it's set at 4 is to keep the amp draw low. I didn't notice the arrow and thought it was on 0. Thanks for the video I brought it down to 1 instead of being on 5 or 6. The 5 to 6 hr time to wait before plugging it in is in case it's turned side ways which should be kept in the right position for 24-48 hrs prior to turning it on.
Yeah you also forgot plugging it into a safe outlet not like the one on the plug in and into that's a hazaris Block is it OK if it just let us sit for 2 hours
I see you have plugged yours in at the top left. So you think the cable would reach basically that same distance, but from the top right of the freezer?

I have the Hotpoint 5.1 freezer that I bought a year ago from Lowes. It has completely stopped working. Checked the electric plugs and they work. Any ideas?
😳...that’s not good... Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. We appreciate you reaching out to us. Has it been exposed to temperature levels outside of the safe temp range?...Also, if the side vent/grill are blocked, this interferes with the proper and required ventilation and cooling of the internal parts. It’s possible that the internal compressor has overheated and failed. Is Lowe’s or HotPoint honoring a warranty replacement? Keep us posted. 😎👍🔧🔩
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders I live in Southern California (San Diego area) so weather is perfect all year round lol I missed the Manufacturer's warranty by a few days! Had the repair done for $135 today (labor, service call, and part) and it was the compressor. Made in China part replaced by new compressor made in the USA. I thought about replacing the freezer but then I would have the same China part and it would break down again. That new compressor is a beast! It immediately had that freezer colder within 15 minutes then when I first installed it.

We just bought one and one of the selling points was the indicator light but the one they delivered seems to just have a "white button". Will it light up or do I need to remove something? The owners manual didn't address this.
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders Yes and I specifically told them I wanted the indicator light and I'm pretty sure I asked 2 Lowes Employees about the light, my husband looked for the light at Lowe's and that was the main selling point of this freezer. Even the owners manual says it has an indicator light.

Thanks for watching, you’re spot on, it’s that exactly. Auto defrost alleviates over-build up of frost and ice. It also helps lower the chances of food getting freezer burnt. Let us know if you have any questions moving forward.
C K Thanks for watching & that’s no fun. We haven’t had that problem. The freezer comes with an ice pick and it’s recommended to get some of that ice and frost buildup off the inner top portion of the freezer which will help the freezer cap or lid to rest properly in place and create that required seal. If your seal is not properly seated, outside air and humidity are getting in and creating moisture which leads to increased frost buildup. 😎👍🔧🔩
@@DIYwithMichaelBorders thanks for your reply!! I did what you suggested and it did help quite a bit. It didn't seem like a lot of ice at the seal but it made a difference! ty!

Wow, you already have more ice build up than mine does after 2 years. I think you need to fill it up a bit more, but not too full. Also, filling it with bags of ice as soon as possible after turning it on, and before filling it with thawed food will help prevent premature ice build up (Excess freezer space causes frost.). Remove the ice as needed as you fill it with food. It's best not to go out and buy a freezer full of food at once since it's not usually frozen yet, and will warm your freezer and can allow bacteria to grow before your freezer has a chance to freeze the food.
I've had this freezer since November 2020 in the same spot in my laundry room. Today it decided not to work. I unplugged, checked the outlet and replugged. Nothing. No green light, no condenser coming on. Any ideas?

It is recommended a dedicated outlet in case the same breaker goes to other things that may cause an overload and the breaker trips causing your food to spoil while at work even though the freezer will keep it cold up to 24 hrs it can cause freezer burns and not good for the breaker or other electronics having a power surge or immediate discharge.
I finally bought my 7 cu freezer from the Big Blue LWS. Thank you 😊

Hi there, thanks for the instruction. One question though, I have to put it in the garage where it's dry but not sure it's ventilated enough. Is it a good place to put it?
Also the temp will be more than 110 for a month or so in our summer in AZ.
khoiquach
Thanks for watching, these are the manufacturers recommended temperature parameters.

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders I face difficulties in regulating the temperature of my Chest freezer 305N.please advice
Would have liked to see the spec tag that shows the amps
Yeah you also forgot plugging it into a safe outlet not like the one on the plug in and into that's a hazaris
Block is it OK if it just let us sit for 2 hours
On my freezer were the light is it looks like a cover is on it i dont see a light why

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders I live in Southern California (San Diego area) so weather is perfect all year round lol I missed the Manufacturer's warranty by a few days! Wts the difference between auto defrost and manual??? Would ice build up on it???
Thanks for watching, you’re spot on, it’s that exactly. Auto defrost alleviates over-build up of frost and ice.
It also helps lower the chances of food getting freezer burnt.
Let us know if you have any questions moving forward.
Had mine for a month but we are getting a lot of ice build up on the top rim and the cover doesn't seem to suction seal well anymore as well.
C K
Thanks for watching & that’s no fun.

They also make moisture absorbers that you place inside the freezer. they work pretty well for us.
