I recently purchased a Hotpoint Chest Freezer from Lowes. I have been looking for additional freezer space since the coronavirus pandemic started in order to be able to store more food and reduce the number of times I need to go grocery shopping. Freezers have been backlogged and very difficult to get a hold of, so as soon as a friend saw some available for pre-purchase at Lowes, I decided to get one for myself - and at a fairly reasonable price.
Join me as I unbox and review this freezer and walk you through the setup. I'll also share with you my initial impressions to let you know if this brand is one worth purchasing.

My father and mother bought a Hotpoint chest freezer into our home when I was a young adolescent (11 or 12 yrs. old) and that freezer lasted 35 plus years before the compressor stop working. Hotpoint is definitely a good freezer as long as you clean it and keep up on the maintenance of it. I have two Hotpoint chest freezers in my home.

I was told by a young lady that worked at Lowe's. That freezer was not garage ready.

Hotpoint is made by GE you got a great freezer at a great price! I’m still waiting for one still hard to find on the East Coast!
Yea. they're still difficult to get a hold of. What I did was go to Lowe's and ask if I could just pre-order for one. They agreed to put one from the next shipment on hold for me if I prepaid for it at the promotional price. Kinda like a rain check I guess, bit I think it depends on who you talk to, because I couldn't do that during a different visit with a different employee that I spoke to. This guy was nice enough to take the time to do so.

Great review and info. I just got one of these freezers today. I will definitely be getting some additional hanging baskets. Can you tell us where you got those plastic baskets you are using in the lower section of the freezer. Thanks.

From what I can see it looks like the plastic baskets are from Walmart or maybe even the dollar store. I know Walmart has some similar in the Sterlite brand. I got mine (freezer) about a week ago and it's been holding a temp of 6 to -11 degrees F so far.

I just bought that same freezer at lowes for $269. Been waiting for months for them to have a 7 cuft freezer. With $79delivery and $20 taking away the old one it was $382. ouch, but nobody has freezers who will take away the old one
How is it working for you? I find I have to occasionally scrape ice off the walls, but it works great. I was also able to buy some additional hanging baskets from Amazon that match the one that came with the freezer
But the new freezer smell is the best part of buying a new freezer :/

This freezer is not garage rated. It says it’s not on the fact sheet on Lowe’s product page.
I had this exact model. Loved the size but sadly it failed after only 2 years.

I just bought this from lowes and have seen quite a few reviews of it failing in just over a year. Now I’m worried. Is yours still going?? How old is yours?

I bought this at Lowe's in Oct 2021 and quit working on Jan 2022, I guess I was unlucky and I tought I wasn't going to have any problems so I didn't buy Lowe's warranty and I didn't register the unit and now I can't return it and cost 700 to fix a 200 frezzer =(
Sorry to hear that. So the manufacturer wont do anything about it? I would assume if you keep trying, eventually you will get a CS rep who cares enough to help replace/fix the unit. Afterall, it was only operational for 3 months which should fall within reasonable timeframe to get a replacement
2 tablespoons of baking soda to 2 cups or 2 quarts of water?
2 cups. You only need to mix up a solution to wipe the fridge down. It's what the instructions stated for a good cleaning solution to remove any metallic dust and new fridge smells.
How is this freezer performing so far?
It is working like a champ. Havent had any issues at all with it since I got it and it is fully loaded. It even survived the Hot and Humid Texas Summer in the garage.
When wiping down the interior for the first time is it normal for white paper towels to turn gray from the aluminum lining?
Potentially. I had a little gray on mine as well. It’s probably the powder coat and dust from manufacturing and storage. After you wipe it down the first time and let it dry out, you shouldn’t have any gray residue if you wipe it down again

Nice. At least you got your hands on one. They are still hard to get a hold of and it works pretty good. I still haven’t had any issues with mine.

The video would be much better if you put as much detail into the unboxing as you put effort into little cartoon
Thanks for the feedback Glen. I actually put more effort into the unboxing then the intro. Good point though and in my newer videos, I try to focus more on the experience during the product review and unboxing.
This guy doesn't know shit, don't worry about leaving it sit for 24 hours, just plug it in and let'er rip, it'll be fine.
