From the product description on the website: "Our Mystery Bundles are a set selection of items from available stock. Only when an item is out of stock will be replaced by another mystery item. "
Yeah, i guess they are just clearing stock to make way for the new stuff next year . . . I would have much preferred that there was more variety though in these boxes rather than just working down their stock levels
'A set selection' is a contradiction in terms surely? Unless they mean, for example 'we're running down stock of six items and you'll get three picked from them'. If they mean 'We're running down stock of three items so you'll get those', it's not really a selection IMHO as everyone gets the same.
Now that's a nice haul of Vintage classic kits for less than 30 pounds. Despite it being a mystery box, that still one hell of a bargain. Cannot wait to see you make the vintage 1/24 scale Hawker Hurricane. Hope you have the shelf space for that one!
It's generally pronounced 'CAL-EYE-OH-PEE'. It was, originally, the name given to a kind of steam powered organ, occasionally found on Mississippi paddle steamers.
The Sherman was named because of its similarity to the steam organ, both having a bank of pipes/tubes. The organ was named after Calliope, one of the Muses from Greek mythology. She was the goddess of music.
It's a nice package even though you got a similar one to the other chap. Still it is a mystery box 📦so you got a good set of kits even if you have one of the models
Was excited to rekindle my passion for model making so ended up with 2 x £75 mystery boxes for Christmas. Quite disappointing to see I have 2 of exactly the same boxes, but for cost effectiveness they were not bad value. Then compared to the value you have on your vintage classic box I am certainly getting one. I have wanted to do that Hurricane for a long time. Very jealous...lol
That's really cool. Love surprise kits. Sometimes i walk into a local shop, put cash on the desk and ask him to pick something random for me. So anyone can buy this mystery box? How about the shipping internationally?
More expensive international shipping with extra VAT/sales tax and Customs handling charge added will take away a large chunk of what you could have saved with this box.
They're not quite mystery boxes as such from what I've read. Lots of people have got the very same selection of kits, because they seem to be using the stock of specific kits for the boxes and then changing the selection when they run out.
Matt there’s a coincidence here you bought 3 models and I got 2 more so it’s 3 including the f-14 I got the Eduard 1/48 dual combo spitfire and the Academy 1:400 Titanic
65,99£ for a kit from 1973, if something is overpriced, it's this kit. I don't like when companies are cashing in with ancient kits. Although Airfix has them clearly marked as vintage, they are still expensive. And I'm afraid that buying more Airfix kits doesn't contribute to them releasing more new tool kits. I hope I'm wrong though. But if I buy kits from an up and coming company like Arma Hobby,it's guaranteed that it will help them release new kits. And speaking of Arma Hobby, next year they will release a Hurricane mk IIC in 1/48.
I agree that there are times when they are trying to "flog a dead horse" so to speak. I'm pretty sure that the Hurricane had been on sale for considerably more than £65 the last time it was in the "normal" range though. I've had a quick look inside the box of the Hurricane and despite its age it still looks pretty good. I dont think i would have bought it at full price though, but in this bundle it was good deal
@@ModelMinutes yeah I agree that for that special price it's a bargain. And it will no doubt look very nice when completed. That scheme with Ian Gleed's red nosed Hurricane with the Figaro cat sure looks good.
I don't mind re-releasing and old kit when the subject is rather original - not made by any other company - and the original kit is either unfindable or costs a fortune, such as the recent 1/32 Jaguar and dune buggy.
@@flitsertheo I don't mind re-releases either, but I think the price should reflect the age of the tooling. It's odd that d3a1 from 1965 costs 9,99 and brand new tempest mk. V 10,99. Although it's 10 years since the Val was released last time, that's just too much. But valid point about rare kits that are unique.
It does say on the pages for these that most boxes are the same and items will be replaced for something else once that stock has been cleared. “Our Mystery Bundles are a set selection of items from available stock. Items will only be replaced by another mystery item periodically or when stock runs out. Note: You may not receive a variety of items for multiple purchases. Updated: 25th January 2022”
Yeah, and it only said that after many videos and social media posts like mine were made about these products . . I guess they realised they had mislead people
The Hawker Hurricane is the better of the three. I built that model decade ago. Now it's broken and full of dust. Id like to buy another. Im in Australia so the the cost is more.🇭🇲✌️🤫
Airfix 1:24 kits now cost £95.00! Several years ago, my city centre TK Maxx had a load of 1:24 Airfix kits all priced at TWENTY QUID!!!! Did I buy them all and hoard them, even one, like the Spitfire? No, I didn't! Oh, boy...
As with all bundles.. it's only saving money if you were going to buy the item anyway. So, would you have bought those kits anyway? My guess - judging by the size of the unmade kits stash - is 'yes'. Also it's only a mystery bundle if you don't know someone else who has it. As you do it's not as much of a mystery as it would be otherwise.
Will you do a review of the Huricane? Not that i will build anything in that scale but i am curious about its quality. Also as a Greek the Calliope = Ka LeeOh Pee (all in one go)
Hi there mate! How is going? Since you asked for an opinion and we are here on the internets, here's mine:) I would never go for an airfix mystery box, especially vintage classics and spend 30 quid on that. Why? Now, this is my opinion and could be unpopular one but personally I think that the whole vintage classics is a cash grab and its purpose is to suck as much money as they can from the older generation of modellers. They call it vintage classics to make you feel nostalgic but all those are old crappy kits that you can find in literally every scale model show in the UK really cheap. Even that hurricane and other 1/24 kits were discounted a few years back on airfix shop to £20 because they couldn't sell them anymore and now they sell them for 65 quid with a nice vintage classic logo on.. It's a brilliant idea from a PR point of view but in my opion its a waste of plastic and these 3 kits are not worth anything even near £82.47 quality wise. What's funny is that a lot of people are complaining that Tamiya 1/48 F-14A Tomcat is too expensive (£65) but they don't have a problem spending £50 - £100 + monthly on crappy kits they will never build.
Those are some very good points and I would, on the whole, have to agree. Whilst I do like building an older kit (and have been known to buy second hand kits) it does seem odd that they retail for similar prices as their new tools. Second hand kits are usually cheaper (unless it's massively rare) but with airfix flooding the market with these older design kits, you think it would make sense to undercut the second hand sellers - why get it on ebay when you can get it "new" cheaper . . . I'm slowly moving away from airfix and once my stash has been built (or i've made good progress) I'll be looking at getting some more varied kits
@@ModelMinutes I don't have anything from Airfix in my stash now. They did some nice kits but nothing that really interest me like their selection of british jets for example. Almost all other kits are just old reboxes or something that someone already did better. I feel like if im gonna say more i will be eaten by crazy airfix fanbase but let's face it. Airfix, Revell and Italeri sometimes prove that they can do something decent but they rely on their legacy here in europe and especially in their homelands (uk, germany and italy) and not really improving much while we see more and more new (or fairly new) manufacturers from china (Great Wall Hobby, Minibase, HK Models, Takom, Meng, RFM and few others) are coming with really decent model kits that are far superior in design as well as plastic quality... and look what Revell do now, not sure if their Razor crest or SR-71 are so 2021 quality to be honest.
I would have bought it just for the Hurricane. But its now out of stock. I may have been interested in Airfix's Tanks mystery box. But its £75, a tad expensive payout considering you don't really know what you will get. I know a lot of Airfix 1/35 armour models are ex Academy or Dragon kits. So at least you should get some good kits. But £75 is a bit much for me.
They have upped the prices of these bundles now which is quite sad, by the time I'd seen MOS' vid they had doubled In price from what was paid by both if you, even with a 20% discount :/
Well. Not really surprising there. I feel like they want to get rid of old 1:24th scale stock. Also the calliope spelling I find right, but your German spelling hurts my brain. Fieseler is closer to fiseler stork then what you said with feisler stoch. ie is not ei in german but a longer i

Suffice to say, I shifted from a nostalgic love for the brand once held in esteem to disdain. Even though some of their aircraft kits have improved in leaps and bounds notably over the past five and a bit years, I haven't bought an Airfix kit in that time as I recall put off either by subject choice of their new tool 1/48 kits or price even where I've favoured the notion/risk of giving another of their kits a go. e.g. 2021's 1/48 Ju 87B-1 re-release.
