  • On Friday, January 21, 2022 at approximately 8:17 pm, I observed a silver Dodge Durango unlawfully driving through the gore area at I-75 north and Northside Drive. I activated my emergency equipment and attempted to stop the vehicle upon observing this. The vehicle failed to stop and began to accelerate while driving erratically, initiating a pursuit. The vehicle aggressively weaved through multiple lanes of traffic at a high rate of speed, narrowly avaoiding collisions with other motorists. The Durango exited I-75 North at Moores Mill Road; I exited as well, and the pursuit continued East on Moores Mill Road. I observed the vehicle cross the double solid yellow line into upcoming traffic while disregarding the stop sign at Moores Mill Road and Howell Mill Road. The vehicle made a right turn from a "left turn only" lane while failing to yield to right-of-way traffic at Moores Mill Road and Northside Parkway. The pursuit continued eastbound on Northside Parkway. The violator continued to drive erratically while traveling in a restricted (middle) lane, showing no regard for other motorists or traffic control devices. The vehicle unlawfully left its lane of travel, crossed a solid white line, and took the entrance onto I-75 South from Northside Parkway. The pursuit continued on I-75 South. As the vehicle passed the 17th Street exit, a PIT maneuver was performed by a member of the Georgia State Patrol, disabling the vehicle. All occupants exited the vehicle upon command and were detained pending investigation. After the investigation, the driver was taken into custody. He was transported to Grad Memorial and checked for injuries. After clearance, he was taken to Fulton County Jail and released to their custody.

Without a doubt the officer handled his adrenaline rush appropriately. Many LEOs can learn from this guy.

Getting away is a lot tougher then you think. Sure, they can black out. But, it would have to be where the cops don't see and it makes it just as tough to see for other drivers and the suspect. If they use a crest and turn off a sidestreet, the cops could get an air unit up or would search all those roads. Not every road leads to another path of escape. Which can trap the suspect to barricade in one of those homes. Let's say they do escape, the cops have your plate on dashcam. Search it, they have your info. And you bet they will first start with the address looking for details of places you frequent.

Would have been big mistake turning his back on 2nd one. Even for a split second. No doubt he would have done the same even without backup.

@jjjthomasson8902 nor is a member of DPS that does their job. He saw a violator, and he attempted to make a stop. MCCDs position doesn't limit them to only CMVs. It's just their specialty. True, they don't have as much EVOC and PIT training as the troopers, but he got the job done and wasn't playing at anything. Even Capitol Police sometimes have 10-80s; GSP, MCCD, and CPD are all part of DPS. They all know the other agencies in it will back them up. That Troop C radio room is coordinating all three and listening to APD at the same time. That guy was getting caught one way or another. That was a Friday night in Atlanta, there were half a dozen GSP Nighthawk units less than five minutes from his location. The cavalry was on the way the minute he said 10-80.

This one starts with Georgia DPS Motor Carrier Compliance Division (MCCD). Georgia's Commercial Vehicle police officers. Troopers in GA have badge numbers 1 to 999, MCCD MCO's use the 7 prefix followed by three additional numbers. MCO Woods #7745, per the dash cam. Their vehicles are black with gray livery, as opposed to the troopers blue and gray, with orange. MCCD drive larger vehicles like the Tahoe and more frequently now the Durango , and carry a large amount of equipment for CMV inspections. GA DPS has three divisions: GSP, MCCD, and Capitol Police.
