I've been to east St Louis a couple of times times going from Chicago to St Louis; the fact that Darius Miles made it out of that place means he is a success.

I mean, he did have the 47 point game, but one game isn't proof of much, Tony Delk and Willie Burton have scored 50 point games before. So maybe Wolfson watched a lot during those 42 games. Darius Miles’s injury adds to the “what if” story regarding the late-2000s Blazers. That team had some serious potential derailed by injuries. LaMarcus Aldridge was the only one who was able to have a long career. Greg Oden played a little more than a season’s worth of games because of all his injuries. He had potential to be the following KG I remember saying that when he was with the Clippers and Cut his Braids off Him And KG looked like Brothers. And the Explosiveness. But the Clippers always trade their good players too soon Miles and Odom was a 1 2 punch for the Clippers when they came out Clippers dont spend time in developing Players thats why they Franchise dont get Championships.
Whoever vidio this is is a hater man did his thing over 10yrs in the NBA its only a few hall of famers each generation cant everyone be all NBA most players be role guys
LeBron's not the first player out of High School to make a big impact right away. Moses Malone, KG, and Kobe all came in and played great from either their first or second year in the NBA.
Yeah but for every LeBron,Kobe(I would even throw Jermaine O'Neal in there even though it took him a bit longer to peak.) there is alot more Kwame browns and Darius Miles.Mosts cats should definitely do the University thing first
Moses Didn't go to the NBA out of hs, so that wouldn't technically count. And his first NBA season still wasn't great. KGs first season wasnt great and Kobes wasnt great. Having a good 2nd season isnt making a big impact of high school. That's being good after a year of adjusting in the NBA. Lebron didnt have to adjust like them.
I read it a while back, about a month. I've never really read a piece where putting in slang and having formal words in the same story piece where the flow was excellent and the slang didn't ruin the feel either. It's a fantastic read
This is not as nearly as "tragic" as Robert Swift story. Also I get kind of sick of this sort of Stephen A. rhetoric of calling players scrubs/trash/bust, I think to describe these kind of players the word "underachiever" is the right term since is not the players fault if the NBA team scouts fail to do their job of getting to know the mental attributes of a draft pick. I don't think NBA teams do much of a job when they draft an immature player they don't help them with their mental issues like Ron Artest for example who had to seek mental help on his own because he genuinely didn't know what was acceptable or not because of his tough upbringing.
From interviews of players I feel like the NBA let too much freedom to this rookies and don't mentor them enough as man Like they just help move on from apartments give you an agent to help interact with the league And it's kind of just this See at this and that time for training and at the airport at that time and goodbye that's everything a lot of organizations do with their rookie Like what about diet managing their free time activities? and yes all of that psychological adaptation to the new city with the new life style ? It's not like all of these kids had good family that prepared them to stay humble as future NBA stars Literally one big example of how they don't care for details and screws their rookies because of lack of attention and dedication on controlling them Marco Bellinelli I mean a normal kid calm and very disciplined right? Easy job Gsw had in the training facility a canteen with a chef and a buffet so players can stay there and train from morning to almost night without going anywhere Marco said that in this place he discovered these butter cookies and get basically addicted to it They gave him the nickname cookie monster because he was always eating cookies with gsw Marco get fat and was not in his best shape because of all the fat from butter cookies Gsw itself was making its own first round pick not fit by feeding him cookies in their training center!
I do remember Marco when he came in, Nellie really liked him and early on he was not only a spot up shooter he had a pretty rounded game kind of like a young Ginobili, I didn't know the cookies story but well, that explains a lot and also tells you what kind of vets the team have.
I saw an article on yahoo a couple of years back I think theres a clip on him on youtube where he was living in a house with trash all over the place with no electricity and the owner of the place was trying to get him evicted but he refused several times I think he shot the house with a shotgun a few times from the inside. NBA teams really expect every 19/20yr old to come in and act like a Kobe or LeBron, but at that age you don't really know anything about life and all of the sudden you win millions of dollars, theres a lot of kids who just lose it and dont know what to do.
He wasn't a bust, got out of that hood, made millions playing the game he loved, probably hooked up with thousands of LA models and now has a successful podcast where he comes across very intelligent. Not to mention the era he was in was full of immense talent anyway.
Tremendous potential, could've been an elite defender and scorer if he truly tried his hardest. Decent defender already with elite athleticism with a 6'8 frame like TMAC and could handle the ball. guy scored like 48 once so obviously he had the scoring potential. Yes college would've been better for him but more than likely needed money right away for him and his family. College didn't pay players as often as they do now...
Sad but common story with the 2000's NBA draft classes up to present. He should hav went to college... I think him in a NORTH CAROLINA school system would have helped him acclimate in the NBA on and off the court. Had talent, but without having been shown how to work in a system -- it only gets u so far
@@Jonas-PD I mean yeah, but they went from decent team in 2005. Then champion in 2006. Then first round exit in 2007. We all know how it went down, but it would be interesting to see him break it down and I'm not even a Heat fan.
Man those Clippers teams in the early 2000s were fun to watch but they literally had no discipline. As a kid I thought maybe he had the potential to be close to Kevin Garnett’s level but it just didn’t pan out.
Everyone hates on Darius because of his appearance and demeanor. There is no other reason for it. I saw it first hand when he played in Portland and it always came to mind. Everything he did was blown out of proportion for no good reason. People talked bad about him for no reason. In reality, he is very low key and kind hearted and people should do the opposite. I guarantee you it was the color of his skin, his hair, and his quiet demeanor. That's the reality of the situation. You are treated based on how you look. People can lie and say they don't judge people based on their appearance but it's complete bullshit. People are liars, that is what they do best, lets stop pretending we aren't lied to, or that people who acknowledge that we are lied to, are "crazy". The justice system is built on figuring whether or not sides are lying. Let that sink in. Darius was no bust by the way.
The thing that a lot of these stories show you is that we all fall on hard times in life no matter where you begin or what heights you reach. God willing and with the right people around and perseverance you can reinvent yourself. It’s just tough when you have to do so from being a once-famous or rich person. I’m glad he’s healthy and living his life.
I swear everytime I'm interested in a topic, you make a video directly as if you could read minds. Has already happened quite often. Yesterday I also read the article by Darius Miles on PlayersTribune and was fascinated. It's a very interesting story and you bring a video directly to it.
Appreciate the video, thanks. Thanks also for the Players Tribune link. His own words about growing up in East St. Louis were particularly enlightening and demonstrated a keen awareness from such a young man. I wish him success as he continues his life.
i find it very disrespectful how this guy keeps calling D Miles a bust. The guy had a 10 year career in the NBA and even almost put up a 50 piece before. KD has never put up a 50 piece. He didn't lack skill. He literally blew out his knee in his 5th year and was damn good right before that. That is not what a bust is.

The Music is rad. What is this song or cd. Miles wasn't a bust. He had about 6 good seasons and helped teams win and made players on his team better. He had a lot of the "tricks". That players don't really have today. He was very entertaining and probably made the NBA money. Miles overperformed the average 3rd pick especially since 2005-now. Best era ever 1987-2003. The Golden Years of the NBA.
That Clippers play with the touchdown pass to Odom then he with the amazing body control and sweet pass to the Miles alley hoop dunk, still is one of my favourite highlights in the NBA
Darius Miles is one of my favorite non star nba players that I wish would have become a star along with Larry Hughes. Too bad it turned out the way it is now.
At least he made it. He wasn't bad he just didn't have the right people around him to bring out his potential. Demarr Derozen came out of Compton didn't have a good shot selection but developed. May not be a high school draft pick but he's an All-star on San Antonio and came from a Crip neighborhood. I got respect for Darius Miles and used him in 2K. Respect to this man
When I was working at McDonalds Overnight. When COVID 1st happened I had a friend named Jason he was from East St. Louis and let me tell you he has some spine chilling stories seeing his friends get shot and having been in multiple shootouts
Someone who probably never played more than high school JV basketball sitting in judgement of someone who beat the odds of surviving in East St Louis and the smaller odds of making it to the NBA is laughable.Gtfoh !!!
he won a ring for me on basketball-gm, that games great fun for me, i research the players and learn about them, learnt about ed currys story too, really hope the ame continues to evolve, stay free and gets even better
I never looked at D. Miles as a bust. Honestly, for someone to come straight from highschool to the NBA already is a challenge in itself. It is funny how some people get on here make videos degrading or making statements about these players and never even played high school basketball.
I was a big fan of that Clippers mob... they were high flyers and played pretty exciting b ball... unfortunately the excitement didn’t translate to wins and they disbanded that team... Olawkandi was the biggest bum/bust on that team #1 overall pick if not mistaken
That's because they had that POS owner Donald Sterling, who was a slum lord and treated his team the same way,the worst facility in the NBA at the time, and treated his players like slaves
thank you so much man when you showed his height which is 6'8 he also converted to meters which is 2.03 i am from brazil it is as much as i understand english height is weight most of the time when it is shown or spoken i could not convert height

I was stoked when D. Miles got drafted. I remember him on the cover of a mag with my favorite player Big Ticket. Was unfortunate he couldn’t expand his game with an outside touch.
Miles wasn't a bust. He showed flashes of brilliance, had his share of good games and highlights. Kinda similar to, yes I'm saying it, Kwame Brown--another highschool phenom who went straight to the NBA. Miles was a #3 pick. He was super athletic and had a lot of potential, again a lot like Kwame. As I said, he wasn't really a bust, he just didn't max out his potential, he wasn't able to meet the very high expectations. He was drafted very high, got paid well, had sufficient playing time, had his share of good games and highlights, but his stats were inconsistent. Underachieved, yes. But NO, he wasn't a bust. Again, pretty similar to Kwame.
i remember watching Darius play for Portland. This was right before Nate McMillan came in & broke up the JailBlazers. The short-lived front court of Miles, Sheed, & Zach Randolph was a formidable trio around the key & fun to watch. But at that time in Rip City, if you were a headcase then you were on your way out.
D Miles low key got buckets in Portland and was one of the fan favorites even tho everyone knew his issues w/ management and off court lifestyle. In Portland the fans will hold down every player on their team. From #1 to the 10th man off the bench. Blazer fans will argue how crucial guys like Joel Pryzbilla and Rudy Fernandez are when they’re on the team lol.
coincidentally, Darius Miles is the only "celebrity" ive ever met, and it was in E St. Louis. Saw him riding in a suv with rims. He said wassup to me n my cousin. It really is the hood hood. My father is from there, and my fam would drive 12 hours to E St Louis when I was a kid. He wanted us to know where he came from. I'll never forget, ONE of the times I went, bc the moment we got there, there was a vigil at the local store (that you have to order your basic materials from behind a glass window b/c of robbery and assault) bc someone got shot and killed there the night before we got there. It was only about a 3 minute walk from where my aunt stayed. And somehow I never felt unsafe being around my cousins and family. Honestly it really just dawned on me how crazy that was, from watching this video... damn.

I just looked at it. 2000 was one of the worst drafts all time . Jamaal Crawford and Michael Redd were drafted after him though .
Whoever vidio this is is a hater man did his thing over 10yrs in the NBA its only a few hall of famers each generation cant everyone be all NBA most players be role guys
@ lmfao you don't know shit about basketball today old head😂
LeBron's not the first player out of High School to make a big impact right away. Moses Malone, KG, and Kobe all came in and played great from either their first or second year in the NBA.
Joe Lieg not Kobe, he took time to mature LeBron never had to mature. He was NBA ready from the jump.
The first hi schooler who made it in the nba is will willoughby in 1975.i mention other like shawn kemp, jermaine o neil,
You guys say LeBron but you forget that the Cavs missed the playoffs.
Darius Miles will always be one of my favorite highschool players..blkman stay strong u are one of the Most High's favorites!!
Miles is only considered a Bust due to draft position.
J.R. Elgran right, people don’t know basketball 🏀
Facts. 2000 sucked. Dropped 47 off the bench. DEF no Bust.
And the fact he played for the Clippers in an era where there were only 6 good franchises in the NBA
I love their podcast. They had Kobe too and their episode with Lowry, A. I and Gary Payton is really sick! These two are real AF.
In small cities like East St Louis it’s easy to get killed, props to him for even making it out
Players Tribune is fire. And he wasn’t a bust he played a good career. Everyone can’t be the best.
I read it a while back, about a month. I've never really read a piece where putting in slang and having formal words in the same story piece where the flow was excellent and the slang didn't ruin the feel either. It's a fantastic read
Update this story, he’s doing great right now, him and Richardson
HOT What happened to Robert Swift? Isn’t that the ginger guy who played for the Sonics?
From interviews of players I feel like the NBA let too much freedom to this rookies and don't mentor them enough as man
Like they just help move on from apartments give you an agent to help interact with the league
And it's kind of just this
See at this and that time for training and at the airport at that time and goodbye that's everything a lot of organizations do with their rookie
Like what about diet managing their free time activities? and yes all of that psychological adaptation to the new city with the new life style ?
It's not like all of these kids had good family that prepared them to stay humble as future NBA stars
Literally one big example of how they don't care for details and screws their rookies because of lack of attention and dedication on controlling them
Marco Bellinelli
I mean a normal kid calm and very disciplined right? Easy job
Gsw had in the training facility a canteen with a chef and a buffet so players can stay there and train from morning to almost night without going anywhere
Marco said that in this place he discovered these butter cookies and get basically addicted to it
They gave him the nickname cookie monster because he was always eating cookies with gsw
Marco get fat and was not in his best shape because of all the fat from butter cookies
Gsw itself was making its own first round pick not fit by feeding him cookies in their training center!
NBA teams really expect every 19/20yr old to come in and act like a Kobe or LeBron, but at that age you don't really know anything about life and all of the sudden you win millions of dollars, theres a lot of kids who just lose it and dont know what to do.
roland smith facts man
He wasn't a bust, got out of that hood, made millions playing the game he loved, probably hooked up with thousands of LA models and now has a successful podcast where he comes across very intelligent. Not to mention the era he was in was full of immense talent anyway.
You should do one on Robert Swift. He was one of the Sonics biggest busts ever and he has a crazy story.
Dude squatted in his repossessed house for months. Went crazy.
He could've been like Jerami Grant if he had had the latter's dad.
Darius wasnt that good but damn his ruby card in 2k is nice!!!
Stuart Scott's best line in NBA2K5 was "Darius Miles can jayyyyyy'm!"......that line used to make me and my friends die laughing back in the day
Factsss I have an all diamond team plus him it’s so op
Thats why most of us know him
factssssssssssssss
I run him in triple threat
Sad but common story with the 2000's NBA draft classes up to present. He should hav went to college... I think him in a NORTH CAROLINA school system would have helped him acclimate in the NBA on and off the court. Had talent, but without having been shown how to work in a system -- it only gets u so far
You should do a video on the sudden rise and fall of the Wade/Shaq Heat team
Shaq got older and lazier.
The End.
@@Jonas-PD I mean yeah, but they went from decent team in 2005. Then champion in 2006. Then first round exit in 2007. We all know how it went down, but it would be interesting to see him break it down and I'm not even a Heat fan.
@@Jonas-PD The dude made the all-star team as a 36 year old playing for the Suns.
Older, yes. But not lazier.
1MFilms You do know that’s when fans were voting for all stars and their votes had more weight at the time.
@@Jonas-PD ..Shaw was over 30 at that point. Is what it is.
A “bust” is my favorite part of a… what’s that? Ohhh, a _DRAFT_ bust? I know it’s NBA but can I still say N’Keal Harry?
Exactly 💯
April Tiff I’ll get you banned from RUclips for agreeing with someone
Man I really liked that clippers team. Always was a fun of his.
I agree. I actually watched a lot of Clippers games from the knuckleheads era up to the playoff team led by EB, Maggette, Cassell and Cuttino.
He’s the athletic, good potential, energetic role player. Not terrible but not great.
E STL is hell on earth D.Miles is a real man.
That dime magazine with the Clippers miles Odom and Richardson was the best cover I ever seen. Sad to see this video💯
If you come from nothing and provide for your family. YOU COULD NEVER BE A BUST
A bad attitude will get you every time.
Karma for how he played mo cheeks
Mo cheeks was not head coaching material
i find it very disrespectful how this guy keeps calling D Miles a bust.
Best era ever
1987-2003. The Golden Years of the NBA.
God you're fucking dumb. Stop spreading your stupidity
Paul Phoenix I agree, add in Eddie Griffin and Tim Thomas too
Cavs fan huh? Same here bud, same here.
He’s my cousin
At least he made it. He wasn't bad he just didn't have the right people around him to bring out his potential. Demarr Derozen came out of Compton didn't have a good shot selection but developed. May not be a high school draft pick but he's an All-star on San Antonio and came from a Crip neighborhood. I got respect for Darius Miles and used him in 2K. Respect to this man
Love this guy! Miles, Desmond Mason, Tim Thomas(etc)... great role play players.
When I was working at McDonalds Overnight. When COVID 1st happened I had a friend named Jason he was from East St. Louis and let me tell you he has some spine chilling stories seeing his friends get shot and having been in multiple shootouts
Now there is two tragic stories of Darius miles
Thanks bro
Good video. I'm going to read article now
Someone who probably never played more than high school JV basketball sitting in judgement of someone who beat the odds of surviving in East St Louis and the smaller odds of making it to the NBA is laughable.Gtfoh !!!
It’s called having an opinion buddy and it’s okay for people to have one
Shut up
I think these videos on players forgotten are some of the best.
Had he gone to college I think going to Duke or Syracuse he would've been a beast. Great coaches make players too ijs
he won a ring for me on basketball-gm, that games great fun for me, i research the players and learn about them, learnt about ed currys story too, really hope the ame continues to evolve, stay free and gets even better
His game is similar to Jerami Grant from OKC Thunder without a jump shot but a better handle
So he was basically what Andrew Wiggins is right now
Money Mack damn hyper athlete with no other skill, I hate to see it
Wiggens is alot better than what Miles was
Nah man Andrew Wiggins is better you’re just being bias
North StarState Andrew doesn’t have a jump shot at all
North StarState Andrew Wiggins is shooting 32% this year and only scoring 14 points a game. You watch the games dumbass
product of going to losing organizations. Now he’s a champion of the podcast scene, and one of the most knowledgeable basketball historians around.Maturity process unparalleled.
Feels bad but at the end of the day it was his fault that he didn’t do more but yeah it looks like he was figuring it out just before the injury.
18 Former NBA Players Charged in $4M Health Care Fraud Plot: Among others who were charged, Darius Miles
"him or Kwame Brown" 💀 LMFAOOOOOOO
I was stoked when D. Miles got drafted. I remember him on the cover of a mag with my favorite player Big Ticket. Was unfortunate he couldn’t expand his game with an outside touch.
At least he is better than the other Darius Miles.
I don't think he should have killed that girl.
Not the same person.
Now he has one of the best podcasts on the internet...in my opinion
Crazy how he could say something like this about a solid dude ... That shit weak bro fr!
Darius I enjoyed this post on you and your article in the Players Tribune. A warrior on the court but most of all a warrior of life. SALUTE!!!!
I remember Darius Miles i wondered what happened to him. I wish him the best.
i remember watching Darius play for Portland. This was right before Nate McMillan came in & broke up the JailBlazers. The short-lived front court of Miles, Sheed, & Zach Randolph was a formidable trio around the key & fun to watch. But at that time in Rip City, if you were a headcase then you were on your way out.
I actually met him at publix the other day and he was very grumpy and not friendly
His bum ass was an NBA player and pissed it away. Wouldn't you be mad.
What Publix you're lying that Man lives back in the E.St.Louis area in O'fallon, Illinois!!😂😂🤔🤔🤦🏽♀️
D Miles wasn’t a bust. He just got hit with injuries. He was fun to watch when he was with the Clippers.
“He’s a bust”
5 mins later
“Rookie season he averaged a highlight every game”
D Miles low key got buckets in Portland and was one of the fan favorites even tho everyone knew his issues w/ management and off court lifestyle. In Portland the fans will hold down every player on their team. From #1 to the 10th man off the bench. Blazer fans will argue how crucial guys like Joel Pryzbilla and Rudy Fernandez are when they’re on the team lol.
Tell me why this dude was one of my favorite people to use in the older 2ks, I dropped buckets with this man 😂😂😂
Clippers was my squad on 2k1 and 2k2 on Dreamcast. Darius dunking Richardson shooting and Brand in the post.
coincidentally, Darius Miles is the only "celebrity" ive ever met, and it was in E St. Honestly it really just dawned on me how crazy that was, from watching this video... damn.
Finally someone knows how great Darius Miles was supposed to be.
I agree with you...he was supposed to be not very great, that's how great he was supposed to be.
I met him he came to Carbondale IL, the Summer of 2011 he seems to be very nice young man,the event was a Basketball Tournament that my Son played in my Son also plays Pro Basketball In Japan
His card in 2k is crazy, like if u agree
One year later and I just NOW realized Andy's mic quality has improved....
Please do a vid on bernard king
Yesss bernard was an elite player...
A real scoring machine
Im proud of you andy, your accent is less and less robotic
Do a video on Elton Brand
Damn.... Hearing his name puts me back. He used to be a favorite of mine. He would dunk on anyone..
