    In this intermediate excel tutorial, I’ll show you how you can recover unsaved excel file. There are times when you accidently close the workbook without saving or you face power outage. Then hours of your hard work are in vain. To fight this problem excel has already provided us file recovery option. But still, we lose our work because we don’t know how to use it.
    Excel’s built-in auto-recovery option is awesome if you know how it works. If you change some settings this could be amazing. Before moving to the setting you must understand one thing clearly.
    You must save the workbook at least once.
    If you create a new document and start working without saving it at least once, I can’t save you. Sorry! But if you have saved the workbook and you are working for hours but didn’t save it, no problem. We have something for you.
    How Excel’s Auto-Recovery Works
    There are two system for auto-recovery and they are built for two different purpose.
    1. For version control.
    2. For file recovery.
    For version control: Excel usually save your workbook after every 10 minutes. This will allow you recover different version of your workbook. If you change this to 1 or 5 minutes your fille will be saved temporarily by excel keeping your data secure. You can get restore any version of your file you want.
    To change the 10 minutes interval to a reduced time, follow the steps below:
    Step 1: Click on the “File” Menu
    Step 2: Click on “Options” and then “Save”
    Step 3: Check mark “Save auto recover information” and set the interval to 1 or 2 or 5 minutes
    Done. This will allow excel to save your workbook after every 1/2/5 minute depending on your preferences. This will also help you to version control your excel file.
    For file recovery: For this you’ll need only one settings. Check the steps to change it:
    Step 1: Click on the “File” Menu
    Step 2: Click on “Options” and then “Save”
    Step 3: Check mark “Keep the last AutoRecovered version if I close without saving”
    Done. This will help you recover your excel file if you close it accidently or if there is a Power outage.
    Now how would you access this recovered data?
    Step 1: Click on the “File” Menu and then select “Info”
    Step 2: Under the “Manage workbook” section you’ll find Version control list.
    Step 3: If you click on the “Manage workbook” and then “Recover Unsaved Workbook”, you’ll find list of Auto Recovered excel file
    Step 4: Click an open your preferred file.
    This is how you can recover unsaved file in Excel.
