Damn I wish I would’ve appreciated it more back then. I graduate college in a few months and would give anything to go back to senior year of highschool. Best time of my life.
All jokes (and memes) aside, this song serves as a good representation of nostalgia. Every time I listen to it, for some reason, I always feel like I'm home. Additionally, I still don't understand why Nickelback recieves so much hate. I've been listening to their songs since I was a kid, and to this day, they still bring back good childhood memories.
When I especially hear these songs from the beginning 2000s I have so often tears in my eyes. These songs bring me back the time when my sons had been lil kiddoes. We had - even there had been a war of roses thx to my ex - so much fun. As we had just every 2nd weekend - we used this time as quality time. And you just can't have enough quality time. So we really tried to extend to the last second. And those last seconds you try to keep so tight in your hands. You want to grab them, that they don't become past. A past of more than 20 years now. Kiddoes became men. And one with his partner and girlfriend (step)father - me with meanwhile 58 years am grandfather living in a whole other corner of the world in Galicia now. Making myself with life, work, pilgriming and else the best time of my life. But with the memories remaining - I still try to steal those last seconds standing at the backdoor of time. Or just having a look at those happy last seconds before the tears - Because when the day one day is coming. I will step into these seconds of quality again. The mistake I made is trying over 2 decades to hold those moments. Better is to move on making new moments. After my last seconds in life I will be glad to be welcomed again in the Nexus of time to go swimming again in eternity. But this is another story to come. Love my kiddoes still, even we almost have no contact anymore. Thx to the ex who always selfishly intervened .... And without all those experiences I wouldn't be the person that I am today .....
Im in my 40s now and both my parents died in the last few years. So we are selling the family home now and this song keeps coming into my head. So many memories in the home and area i grew up in.
Totally understand. I'm 47 now and my Dad died when I was 21. My Mother is still alive and healthy but when he died she sold my childhood home because it was too big for her to be in alone and the memories. I still drive by it a few times a year and when no one is living in it I get out and walk around the area. I probably look like a burglar but don't care. Someone called the police on me once when I did that and when the cop arrived I was crying like a little bitch. He asked me what was wrong and I told him that it was where I grew up. He understood and left me alone.

Hate em or love em, the older you get the more you can't deny that they wrote some catchy songs. These guys and a group of bands came thru in the OEF/OIF times and it meshed well with the crowds, some capitalizing on it. I got tired of hearing them everywhere on the radios back then, but now here I am looking them up on RUclips showing the younger folks.
OMG are you kidding me? This song was written by someone who could write good songs! That, sadly is becoming even more rare. The storytellers such as Croce, Nicks, Chapin, Lightfoot and more are all dying away and who is taking their place? :(
they're not hated because they're bad, they're hated because they're not good and incredibly successful with that mediocre music. also, postgrunge. they took the honest, personal, heartfelt, society critical, political, anti consumerist genre of grunge and turned it into whiny sellout boomer poprock postgrunge garbage.
I honestly don’t give a sh*t and will never understand why people hate Nickelback. I love them, I think their music is amazing, and it will forever give me nostalgia of the best years of my life.
the only valid reason i've seen is because chad kroeger is an ass though in saying that he does make some awesome riffs and he has a really good singing voice
They had such a generational run when I was growing up. Their songs are pure nostalgia to me and every single one is a hit. Internet can not change my mind.
This song hits hard for me. I was only a kid when this came out. My mom was an bookeeper for an old model from the 30s. She was like a grandmother to me and my brother. She died last year of altimeters. Me and my brother loved to go to her house, but when she died she wanted her house to be demolished to have a new one built. I helped my mom clear out all the stuff In the house. I have ever a lot of good memories there. It's hard to say it, but I had to say goodbye. I miss you Sandra, I loved you like a grandmother. I hope we could see each other again when my time comes. Thank you for reading this comment.

I don't think I could ever make a better song about the subject. Nostalgia, growing up, moving on from being young, growing apart from your old friends. It's just so perfect.
Couldn't agree more. I lost friends that I thought were real and gained real friends that I thought I'd hate. I occasionally travel to my hometown though.
This song has been roasted in popular culture, but if you ever take time to read the lyrics, they're really sad (and def applicable more than ever in this lockdown). They're about simpler/happier times which one can never go back to.
I live in the UK and It was my last year before going far away to Uni, in the span of 24 hours lock down happened and what was going to be a normal Friday or revising turned out to be the last day I would be there as a student. This song sums up how I feel about my ceremonial departure and the faces I may never see again and the community of amazing people that will never be in the same place again in the history of the universe.
TimberStove Same man, it was surreal, all of a sudden I was having my last day saying goodbye to a bunch of people I’ll probably never see again, I hope shit works out for you man, got my 18th in a couple days lol, hope we get at least a bit of a summer before uni
Maxwell Brown. Thanks I’m luckier than most coz I got an unconditional offer days before unis were forced to stop giving them. So many people are getting ready to take exams in the autumn term, it’s so unreal
I don’t care what anybody says this song is beautiful. I understand why a lot of people can’t get passed the vocals but at least recognize the power in the melody
These guys brought back the simplicity of the 80's arena rock 'feel good' party anthems. That's why most people who hate on them are under 40. Some of their songs are simplistic in form, but take a look at AC/DC, KISS, and a slew of other all-time greats who will be in the HOF.. and if you know anything about music, you can appreciate the songwriting.. my take on it is this: They're multi-platinum, and you're not. When you are, then the world will care about your opinion of their song writing lol. If you can't objectively listen to this song and feel some kind of nostalgia, you had a crap childhood and probably didn't have any friends. No matter how hard I think of it... I still don't understand why some people hate this band?! Their songs are masterpieces and the sound of my childhood.
It’s because every song they make sounds the same, and then gets absolutely played out on the radio. It’s bad when I’m not even a fan, but I know the words to a lot of their songs because it’s been literally shoved down my throat on the radio so much.

It didn't have much to do with their songs as much as it had to do with the lead singer, Chad Kroeger. He is a typical frat boy kinda guy and is kinda an asshole. 1 lifetime 120 years long. How is 120 years not enough? Enough for what, sinning, being more sick and evil?
For a holy living 120 years is more then enough.
We all, truly live only once on this earth, buddhism is false, we come not back to “fix” our sins Repentance must take place in this lifetime, for in this lifetime we are sinners,
able and having the desire to do evil.
No more evil doings in heave, and on new earth = forever living holy.
No more evil doings in hell and in the lake of fire = forever in the flames, crying.

Well said. Also, you have nothing to lose by reaching out to your kids. Might as well.

Gosh that line about the "first girl I kissed" hit hard. I remember I expected to get married and have kids with my first girlfriend. Time has broken more things than I thought possible, and left them long forgotten.
