    Here's a video on how to turn right at a red light. There are a few things you need to know, some of them tricky, that fail a lot of people at the exam.
    Note: While I try to make my videos as universal as possible, rules and laws may vary according to the place where you’re driving and might be different from the ones in this video. Always drive according to the laws and rules that apply to the place where you are driving. Requirements at the driving exam may also be different than the ones shown here. Always respect the requirements that apply to the place where you are passing your driving exam. This video is not legal advice, and is not meant to replace your official driving courses. By doing anything presented in this video, you assume full responsibility for anything that may happen.

    Don't forget that if you do turn right on red, to leave enough room. You are only clear if you can accelerate to traffic speed BEFORE the traffic reaches you. If the traffic has to brake because you turned right on red, you either did not have enough room or did not accelerate quickly enough.

      @@ConduiteFacile Quick question, if I am turning right with red signal on my side. But then a car on my left from perpendicular traffic is running a yellow light (turning red before that car even reaches me) with no condition preventing that car from stopping safely (i.e., no cars behind), the speed limit of that street is 30 km/h btw. Should an accident occur and I could prove exactly what I said with a dashcam video. Who would be at fault or bear the most fault?

    • @CalumOH
      @CalumOH 2 года назад +1

      @@franksun4017 By my countries logic, if the car got through before the light turned red, it would be you who's at fault. Although if they made no effort to slow or stop they can bare some of the blame, especially if there's proof they should have been able to stop safely. If they didn't stop safely when they easily could have then they would then take most of the blame.

    I think you made a good point! When turning right on red you need to remember (make sure there is no "no right turn" sign next to the light) 1. Stop first then check 2. Check traffic coming front the left, check traffic that's about to turn into your lane with green arrow 3. Check pedastrian who may cross the road 4. Check bikers by looking behind your shoulder. I wish someone had taught me this before my driving training. Sometimes people just assume that you should know this from the beginning of the day. I think your video is super helpful.

      Some intersections even have a right turn signal but you are still allowed to turn when it’s red if there is no sign saying “no turn on red”. However if it’s red you have to treat it as a stop sign and can’t just roll right through.

    On the way home from my successful driving test, I got tripped up by that EXACT mistake at 2:03. Focused too hard on people from my left, nearly collided with the car pulling out from the turning lane across from me. My dad corrected me thankfully, and it just goes to show that you’ll still be learning long after you earn your license.

Do i have to turn right into the first lane? because what if after turning right i know i need to make a left turn soon, can i simply turn right into the 2nd lane so i dont have to change lanes?

    I want to emphasize one thing that you briefly mentioned. Remember to look to your right for people crossing in front of you before you turn. Most people stare to the left waiting for a gap in cars, and they don’t notice if a pedestrian is coming from the right. They end up blocking or hitting them. And always stop at the line, and only creep forward after checking if it’s clear.

      Also, as a pedestrian be sure that people see you. Once you’ve made eye contact I’m pretty sure they’ll let you pass.

    There is an intersection like these ones in the Sydney suburb of Clyde. The difference is that because Australia drives on the left hand side of the road then a left turn is permitted on the red light at this intersection after coming to a complete stop.

    This is a good way to create conflict between different road users. A textbook example of putting traffic throughput above safety.

    I just made a mistake while I was driving and came across this video to clarify it. It was a one lane road on one side and a 2-lane road on my side. It was a red light and I was making sure the coast was clear before making a right turn, then I saw that it was and I also saw drivers from the opposite side of the road, started going straight, for them it changed to green already but on my side it was still red. When I saw the cars going straight I just turned right but first of all it was a one lane road I was turning into that later branched into multiple lanes, and second, I didn't even notice that there was also someone turning left afterwards so I kept turning right while that other person was also trying to turn left and I got honked at. I learned my lesson now completely. Do not only check to see if no one is coming to your left and pedestrians but also check if anyone is trying to turn left.

    Very informative video. Thanks! "You are last in priority when making a right on red." That means you can NOT jump in front of people who have a green light either going straight or left.

      Yes. Even if they have a yield they go before you because they have just a yield, you have a red signal.

      maybe u can reply in case the uploader doesnt reply to this:
      Wait i got my license and no book or instructor or experience raised these issues. i have only ever checked for the crosswalk and both lanes towards my left before i turn right...u said people make left turns and may enter the lane im turning right into...im supposed to check for them? well there's like always people stopped there so...?? and dont i have the right of way over them?? which mirrors do i check when turning right? why...if im in the right lane who/where would i look for...parked cars? how/why would a biker sneak in unless it's a bike lane? if i check those mirrors/over shoulder, by then, the other stuff i checkced might have cars/people walking etc. again! Do i have to turn right into the first lane? because what if after turning right i know i need to make a left turn soon, can i simply turn right into the 2nd lane so i dont have to change lanes?

    When I was doing my driving practice, I see some intersections have the green right arrows that allow drivers to turn right when the other drivers that comes from the right that are turning left. That was when I go east on Willow Street and then go south on Lakewood Blvd.

  • @aaronphelps2008

    Very good job! I love that you included that RTOR is "optional". The cars behind will likely sound their horn if you insist on waiting for green. Ignore them. If a parent is coaching their child to NOT wait, the student should not create extra conflict, but also try to reason with the parent or persuade them to discuss this with their child's instructor or some other authority. In the opinion of most/all examiners, hornblowers are ignorant of the laws and dangers. Test examiners will actually be more impressed if you wait.
    I count a total of 9 ways to fail the exam, just by attempting a RTOR( police control, and emergency vehicles are seperate. also includes u-turners on the right).
    Many lane changes that soon follow turning right are also made more difficult when the driver insists on going on red.

      There are the rules of the road, and the facts on the ground. And irl, refusing to turn on red even if it's safe to do so is a recipe for road rage

    • @marcuswelch4515

    In my country there are small green arrows that light up to allow people to turn right on red light or even turn left if it's a one-way street. This allows for better control of when people can move and in which intersections but on the other hand people often mistake them for green light and just speed through when they're required to stop first.

    • @ConduiteFacile
      @ConduiteFacile  7 лет назад

      We have that here too at some intersections. But even if there's no arrow, it's still allowed in most places.

    • @jayasmrmore3687
      @jayasmrmore3687 6 дней назад

      If there is a green arrow you don’t have to stop first even if the red is also displayed.

    In my home town, the cross walk traffic light that only flash yellow, to be extra safe in the city some of them are replace with red, yellow and green light to be safer for the padestrian, and the problem a few number of people still think that red light for the cars to stop on a padestrian crossing only is the same as the flashing yellow light, just because it is not an intersection traffic light signal, if the red light to stop the car is for the padestrian crossing only, you are not allowed to turn right on red if you are crossing the side walk in front of you, the only time in my home town you can turn right on red, when it is a mix of traffic light signal and cross walk signal, and also if the right turn lane goes into a merge, and/ or a yield sign.
