I heard there was a small, rural town near Utrecht, sort of like an Amish town, where you could still buy farm products, milk, cheese, etc direct from farmers. If you could commend please. Thanks.

Great channel, would recommend also city of Leerdam with surroundings, not close to Amsterdam but worth of visiting...

In het engels hebben we een aantal woorden die op elkaar lijken. Kennel, this is for dogs and cats. Channel, on your television and Canals in Amsterdam. De klemtoon in het woord "Canal" ligt op de laatste lettergreep. Dus als je het hebt over kennels in Amsterdam kunnen je kijkers wel eens denken: "Maar ik wil helemaal geen hond".

@@TheDutchcountryside MostIy time restraints. I absoIuteIy Ioved Amsterdam as a tourist and when I Iived there. I think it's the perfect pIace to go if you don't have a Iot of time. Remember the oId American itinerary .. today's Tuesday, we must be in BrusseIs.🤣
@@LindaCasey Oh definitely, but as the country is so small, it's very easy to make a quick day trip. Weesp is only 16 minutes away for instance.
Hahaha, I've never understood the extreme rushing through some places. I know we have a lot more vacation days here, but I sometimes wonder if those itineraries don't leave people way more exhausted than how they arrived.
@@TheDutchcountryside Well, only because I've been in that position myself (i.e. two weeks in Europe on a limited budget), you want to see as many museums and monuments in a key city in as little time as you can possibly cram into one day. Unfortunately, the luxury of day trips usually bites too much into your time. I think for us Americans, it's so that IF we ever come back to Europe, we'll extend that limited vacation time into visiting the one country we like the best so that THEN we can expand our itinerary into taking those luxurious day trips of which you speak. You have given that traveler the best advice in where to go once they've landed (again) in Amsterdam. You really are the best 'go-to' person for showing the visitor the best off the beaten trails to see in The Netherlands.🌹
Could you tell me if there is a way to obtain a monthly TRAIN pass that allows you to travel unlimited for a month on the train anywhere in the netherlands? For buitenlanders (not from inside Holland - we don't have a Dutch bank account for the Dal or other monthly passes that they list).

I’ve been to Amsterdam before Covid and would like to stay outside Amsterdam and take a day trip to Ams to show my husband. Where would you suggest we stay in the countryside so that it’s close to other beautiful places outside Ams but also close -ish to Ams itself for a day trip. Thank you 🙏🏻 Love from 🇺🇸

@@TheDutchcountryside trains would be best, we love trains! If it’s within 1 hour train ride that would work too. We’d love to see the windmills if there are any around. I’d imagine we would stay mostly in the countryside exploring surroundings and take a day trip to AMS and come back that night. Thank you for all your help! 🙏🏻💗
@@Cheese-Head So, you could stay in Alkmaar for instance. This is a beautiful city famous for its cheese market on Fridays (until September), but it is also home to beautiful canals, courtyards and the most picturesque alleys. It's a 40 minute train ride from Alkmaar train station to Amsterdam Centraal train station.
And from Alkmaar train station you can take bus 129 towards Purmerend Tramplein and get out at 'Halte Schermerdijk, Schermerhorn' to see windmills; there's also a museum mill, called ' De Museummolen', (museummolen.nl ; it has an English feature).
And, when you're in Alkmaar anyway, you can visit 'Molenkade' which is also home to some windmills in a row. But these ones are generally not opened (still a beautiful sight though!).
Or you can take the train to Zaanse Schans to see windmills, but there it is very crowded.
From Alkmaar you can also visit the Schoorlse Duinen if you're interested in seeing some beautiful Dutch nature. It's home to the highest dune in The Netherlands, called De Klimduin, which is 51 meters high (which is high for an area mostly -2 under sea-level). You can easily visit Schoorl with a 27 minute bus ride.
And the city of Hoorn is a 23 minute train ride away. And, another beautiful place is De Rijp, which is 35 minutes away by bus; and there you can rent a boat to go through a beautiful nature reserve called Eilandspolder.
I would recommend you to download the app 9292ov (it has an english feature) to plan your journeys; it's the best app for public transportation. I've created a video about public transportation & how it works here; ruclips.net/video/NGEkooNU8lw/видео.html
Anyway, beyond that you could also stay in Den Haag, as Den Haag Centraal station is roughly 50 minutes away from Amsterdam Centraal. From Den Haag you could go to Molendriegang Stompwijk (which is a 35-minute bike ride), where you can see windmills, but they cannot be visited from the inside.
You could also stay in the city of Dordrecht (it's 1 hour and 10 minutes from Amsterdam Centraal). And from there it's between 50 minutes to 1 hour to visit the Kinderdijk windmills.
