We start talking Dutch because we are in the Netherlands. Just like when u are in Germany they start in German then switch, as in France they start in French..... ehh and keep talking French.
In response to 6:38: in American English, a blouse is a shirt for women specifically. They don't need to have buttons, but they can. Blouses also tend to be loose-fitting garments. A men's shirt with buttons is referred to as a button-up or a button-down, depending on where in the US you would live. There's an actual distinction between the two, but most people either don't know it offhand (like myself) or don't care. To distinguish blouses and button-ups further, you would refer to the sleeve type. So you could have a short-sleeve blouse or a long-sleeve button-down, for instance.
Oh waw, that feels so cursed as a Dutchman. Here a bloes (blouse) is, basically always, a shirt with buttons made out of a sturdy and thin fabric, no matter the sleeve length. And shirts are just long sleeved t-shirts. Neither have anything to do with what gender they were designed for. I feel that this is generally an easier way to distinguish clothing, which also isn't only limited to shirts and blouses, but also sweaters/hoodies/vests (or zip-up hoodies). I'm curious about why this difference is a thing between languages, seeing how clothing generally isn't very different across the globe.
I'm surprised you didn't mention the fact we made a bunch of our landmass from scratch, like the land you live on, Flevoland! It used to just be sea, then we turned it into a lake, and now there's polders, so basically new land. I don't like my country, mostly because of our horrible language and the fact we only get a little bit of snow during winter, but I can't deny it's a very interesting country. For example, we are the reason carrots are orange! We were the first country ever to legalize same-sex marriage and throughout history have been the most accepting and tolerant European country, especially during the Renaissance, many enlightened thinkers moved here so they could actually do research and publish their works! I'm a history freak okay I can't help it and I don't often get to share things like this. If you want to know more fun facts or want me to explain some I already said, just let me know! I'd be happy to. I also can't forget to mention the fact we once ate our prime minister, I'm not joking.

I really enjoyed this video. My wife and I, prior to the "pandemic" visited the Netherlands on an yearly basis once spending three months straight there (the maximum amount of time that we could stay as foreigners). In our humble opinion the entire country is very picturesque. Because of its size it's easy to see it without spending days travelling. The most difficult question I have ever had to answer is "what is my favourite city/town/village in the Netherlands"? The fact that we have been returning to the Netherlands on an yearly basis as of 2010 is an indication of how beautiful this country is.
And I can see how it stays so nice and well because its a smaller size nation it makes it easier to have the things it has. The lower amount of people helps with cleanliness, crime rate, and other matters so its no surprise that its a great place. Places like that size can very much do what this country and others like it are able to do. Its like its cozy.
Hi Adi, just to let you know. Utrecht - not Amsterdam - is the central city for all connections by train as it is the largest, busiest and most central station in the country...
6:46 For men, it's a shirt, or buttoned shirt. For women, it's a blouse, which is a French word and in France it can be used for a buttoned shirt, blouse, t-shirt or any other garment worn on the upper body. In Dutch blouse means buttoned shirt but has become less common as it starting referring to a specific type of loose fitting, light weave buttoned shirts.
Just a little comment about Lelystad. I was there long ago (1975!) to visit with my family who lived outside of the city. I remember going to the pool with my cousins. Hearing you say the name "Lelystad" brought back wonderful memories.
If you truly live in Flevoland, I advice you to go with a car to the fields around Zeewolde if I am right. As in that's now a flower heaven (tulips all the way you can see). It differs from year to year when it's full of them. But as far as I hear till now, it's now the right time to go. And it's way quieter to go there then to go to the Bollenstreek. Its truly a nice experience if you love nature/calm.
Hi, I just want to say that I am very (very!) impressed by your video. A huge part of it is the way you interspersed your explanations with short video clips that illustrate the story very clearly. You can take your bike with you in the trains to, but outside of "spitsuur". Cost about 6 euro 10 extra for a whole day. But it's worth it as certainly in places like Zeeland, trains aren't as frequent and busses don't get everywhere and if you don't own a car, this can be very handy. I always see the video's about bicycles missing this part of information. It helps so much. Not to forget you can also just rent an OV-fiets, which is cheaper.

Hi , thanks for the video . I love Netherlands and would love to come there for few days with family. So make a video on what options do we have for staying in a budget, cheap places for shopping souvenirs, best most important places to visit.
Hello from Thailand. Great video, incredibly fun and informative. I'm looking into the Netherlands as one of the options to complete my masters degree so this is very helpful and also calm my nerves down since it is going to be my first time staying abroad alone.
And upon arrival, don’t take a taxi which is not in the taxi line. Public transport is fine and cheaper than the use of taxis. We had some issues with scammers posing as taxi drivers, trying to pick up rides in the main hall of Schiphol. Then they would charge €400 for a €10-€40 trip. Not how you’d want to arrive in The Netherlands

When it comes to appointments with friends or collegues, the closer you are with them how more often and spontaneous you can have an appointment. My friend comes at my house almost everyday and my neighbours also. My family is always welcome, no need for an appointment. But random friends that you see 2 times a year, they get an appointment weeks or months later. We validate our precious time and spend it most with loved ones that are the closest with us.
Love the video and your insight. My parents are from the Netherlands and we visited often. I can’t believe my cousin hasn’t shown us the ‘squatting dude’ statue. You are a delightful couple. Tot Siens!

I always find it comforting to know that there are many other people out there who got a masters in something they "enjoy" but realize they don't want to do. (whispers) I am not alone.
My husband and i are planning to move to the Netherlands in the disant future. We love it so much. It will be several years from now while we finish our qualifications and learn Dutch. I'm hoping to get a job and work visa as a dietitian, so it will be a requirement for me to speak Dutch very well. As a monolinguist, it's intimidating but i really enjoy the language so I hope we'll achieve our dream!
Thank you fr yr video about NL..Its informative and the way you both narrate it makes it interesting to watch....not boring at all. You have a good positive vibe and I think that's important in any country that one wishes to settle in..As a foreigner I can imagine you face challenges in NL but you didnt potray it in a negative light.. You seem like a genuine person and I wish both of you much success and happiness in life..
For all the people who come to the Netherlands (especially at this time of year) when you want to see the tulips: only stay ALONG the fields and do not walk through them. It can destroy the flowers, making them useless to the farmers. Most farmers are therefore now closing off the fields, so you can no longer come close to them. Please take this into account.
Hey Adi. Our name is almost the same. Many foreign pepole pronounce my name is Ed or A.D. It's a typical dutch name, so you have to pronounce my name as a real dutch name. Ask your girlfriend how to pronounce it. 😜 Welcome to The Netherlands! It's really cool to hear you love our country. Have a good time, happiness and a lot's of love with your girlfriend.
Well, my experience of living abroad is that you're automatically at a head start if you HAVE made the effort to speak the language, and then your concerns about weather and bla bla bla, whatever - you don't even take any notice of it because you have so many more things to do, so many more opportunities to get involved in.
That booking 2-3 months in advance to hang with a friend, I have to agree...it happens, but what a pain. So unless you book the year in advance, you'd only see your friends maybe 3-4 times a year. :(
hey! Great video! I'm Polish living in NL since almost 5 years. I came for short vacation and met my bf ;) so.. I decided to stay. Since I visited NL for the very first time in 2010 - I knew it's my place to live. I love this country so far! Greetings!
Nine video, takes me back in time when I started coming to the Netherlands to see my girlfriend who's my wife now. It took me 18 years to finally make the decision of moving to the Netherlands. Really nervous about the weather.
I am trying to find apartment in rotterdam, which area would be great for me,is it fine to find apartment after reaching there or I have to find just now, anyone can help me out
6:41 I'd call it a shirt in english, or overhemd in dutch (always learnt you only call it blouse when it's worn by a female, for some reason I'm not aware of)
A blouse is a button shirt! 😂 Or sometimes lacey without buttons but then it has a certain blouse style. Afrikaans here. Schedules so important I do it even though it is not custom in SA!!! It is just what makes me comfortable.
Thank you for a great vid. As for the language, I think it’s okay to move with no language or the very basics, but after, if one wants to stay and make a life in the country, it is …well… a kind of coming without saying that one learns a language. I live in Québec which is francophone but as it is Canada and it is indeed not very complicated to function here with English and 0 French, some assume that they will do their best to consciously avoid learning French at all but still stay and profit from everything that the land has to offer. It pisses me off honestly. So it’s always cool to see people who actively value the culture and the language of the place they came to live in, I think it’s just very normal :)
Thats not the reason we bike. Biking in the netherlands is most of the time the most easy and fast way to get somewhere. Its free, And you can ride it when your drunk.. thats also a reason haha. That its good for the environment is great but for most not the reason
Dutch people bicycle a lot in the big cities because it is the fastest way to get around. In most big cities you can get from A to B in 15 minutes with a bicycle and parking is free. Using a car means you have to drive at least 20 minutes, next you'll spend 30 minutes finding a parking spot which will cost you an arm and a leg per 15 minutes and is about a 25 minute walk away from the place where you need to be.
Love your video Adi, contemplating on moving there soon. I'm a social person, and I'm scared that I might not find friends. The structure??? Is it made of metal??? Could not guess.
I am an 168m Brazilian that's moving to the Netherlands and the clothing size you mentioned worried me hahaha. How will I be able to buy clothes? Will I need to send them to be corrected to my height. Here in Brazil a medium shirt fits me well
u forgot 1 thing that the netherlands is also known for: that they are winning land that the ocean should be keeping deep inside already. tho i hope you enjoyed your stay in the netherlands and come back soon, as you have alot more to see and experience in the netherlands, :)
The answer is very simple: A button up "blouse" is for women, a button up "shirt" is for men. Just like women tend to buy a "bloes" and men buy an "overhemd". I wouldn't call Amsterdam the central city for public transport. If you'd mentioned Utrecht, yes, I would agree that's the central public transport hub!
I'm from the netherlands and living in Nijmegen. There are big difrences in the country in the sout West they spreuk with an France netherlands dilect and you have Friesland they think there are an own country
Great info as usual. 👍🏼 I wish we were as punctual as the Dutch. I have been frustrated enough by friends and relatives to know the pain of reaching some place in time and just stand and wait there for half an hour or more. Really really really annoying. Btw, If you won't mind answering it, how much social importance is attached to owning a house or apartment by dutch society ?
Thank you! 😄 haha we know that feeling! Owning or renting is not connected to 'social importance'. However, owning a house is in the end way way cheaper, that's why everyone wishes for each other that they are able to find and buy a house! But it's not easy anymore..
Hey! Great video! I moved to the NL on November 2020, everything was closed and dark 😅 Fortunately now everything looks different! Could you please share with me to which shopping centre did you go? 😂

My friend comes at my house almost everyday and my neighbours also. My family is always welcome, no need for an appointment. But random friends that you see 2 times a year, they get an appointment weeks or months later. We validate our precious time and spend it most with loved ones that are the closest with us.
That is actually a very good point
Love the video and your insight. My parents are from the Netherlands and we visited often. I can’t believe my cousin hasn’t shown us the ‘squatting dude’ statue. You are a delightful couple. Tot Siens!
Thanks so much Rey, haha it is somewhere in 'Lelystad' which is not the most visited place in The Netherlands :D
the time-lapse by drone was perfect 🥰 💞
hatsoff bro❤❤🥳
Thank you so much 😊
Love from Tokyo, Japan guys :) nice video. keep coming them up.
Thank you so much. Glad you liked them :)
@@LetsMeetAbroad I am shifting to Amsterdam, Netherlands in 2 months. Currently, I am product manager at Rakuten Tokyo Japan. I definitely would like to meet you guys. You are just fabulous and lovely couple. Btw are you following diet and exercising? May I know what’s your routine?
I always find it comforting to know that there are many other people out there who got a masters in something they "enjoy" but realize they don't want to do. (whispers) I am not alone.
Haha i am glad to hear that as well 😅
@LetsMeetAbroad just gives me hope that when I get out of the military, I can go do other things with my life.
That sounds amazing. Good luck.. 🤞
Thank you for your kind words 🙏😁
Super insightful! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
True! Adi start learning Dutch in Australia 😄
That booking 2-3 months in advance to hang with a friend, I have to agree...it happens, but what a pain. So unless you book the year in advance, you'd only see your friends maybe 3-4 times a year. :(
Nice and helpful tips, thank you
Congratulations on 100K
Thank you!!
hey! Great video! I'm Polish living in NL since almost 5 years. I came for short vacation and met my bf ;) so.. I decided to stay. Since I visited NL for the very first time in 2010 - I knew it's my place to live. I love this country so far! Greetings!
Hey Marti,
Thank you. We are glad you are loving The Netherlands 🇳🇱
Thanks man i am learning many life lessons from your videos
Thank you for watching :)
My husband is Dutch and I want to live there. Where actively planning to move to Leiden now.
I saw Lelystad in 1969. Just sand and a few houses. Appie Heijn was in a container. It was quite amazing.
Nine video, takes me back in time when I started coming to the Netherlands to see my girlfriend who's my wife now. It took me 18 years to finally make the decision of moving to the Netherlands. Really nervous about the weather.
Haha yes, the weather is a bit annoying
Great story btw.. thanks for sharing
like 15 year sago in amsterdam we would have a lock on are bike that was much more exspensive then are bike so it wont get stolen
I am trying to find apartment in rotterdam, which area would be great for me,is it fine to find apartment after reaching there or I have to find just now, anyone can help me out
I really love the shot where you are sitting o the back of the bike and her cycling, with your suitcase on wheels. Brilliant!
Thanks Peter, glad you liked it!
Loved your video and your advices. You seem a lovely couple.
I enjoyed this. Thank you!
In dutch when we say shirt we almost always mean a T-shirt. We call a button-up shirt a blouse or "overhemd"
hmm.. Interesting :)
Can't wait to move here. ❤🎉
Good luck 😉
Life in the Netherlands
Great story telling, keep it up!
Thank you Janice! Will do!
6:41 I'd call it a shirt in english, or overhemd in dutch (always learnt you only call it blouse when it's worn by a female, for some reason I'm not aware of)
haha I wish Myra learnt the same way!
Where is the big shop you bought the blouse?
In Batavia `stad
The shot with you on the back of the bike, holding onto your suitcase, is the most Dutch thing.
Haha thanks 😊
Lovely relax real video. Goed gedaan hoor !
Danjkewel
Lovely experience.
Your videos have great attention to detail 👏
Glad you liked them :)
Thank you so much for this!
Thank you Kayla :)
Tree like iron structure. Useful vlog about Dutch. 👍👌🙏
Thanks
Hey! I enjoy the video 😊 . I've actually been to Lelystad and I can say that's it's a lovely little town. P.S., you're a very lovely couple
Thank you!! 😃 yeah Lelystad has some amazing areas!
A blouse is a button shirt! 😂 Or sometimes lacey without buttons but then it has a certain blouse style. Afrikaans here. Schedules so important I do it even though it is not custom in SA!!! It is just what makes me comfortable.
Great story
Love it
Hi!Great video!Love from Sri Lanka!

Thank you Gamitha :)
Amazing work Mann👍
Thank you so much :)
Thank you so much 😊🤗🤗
Very Informative,thanks
Thanks, glad it helped you 😀
I love how Dutch people stick to bicycle 🚲 to protect environment
Thanks a lot for creating this video
Please creat a video and tell us some tips about living there as a international university student 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Thank you. I am not a university student so can’t give any tips about it. Sorry
I just visited Batavialand last week and saw the pooping guy statue lol!
Love your video Adi, contemplating on moving there soon. I'm a social person, and I'm scared that I might not find friends. The structure??? Is it made of metal??? Could not guess.
I live not far away from the Dutch border. I'm German. I like the Dutch people. They are much friendlier than my compatriots.
Sehr wahr! ☺️
Whats the process of starting a food business in netherlands?
Interesting video. A silly question coming out of my curiosity, where did you film the tulip fields? :D
Your kids will be the most beautiful!❤😂
Haha thanks ☺️
I am an 168m Brazilian that's moving to the Netherlands and the clothing size you mentioned worried me hahaha. How will I be able to buy clothes? Will I need to send them to be corrected to my height. Here in Brazil a medium shirt fits me well
Order them from Brazil
Sizes are not really because of your hight but because of your shoulder to shoulder or waist size.
u forgot 1 thing that the netherlands is also known for: that they are winning land that the ocean should be keeping deep inside already. tho i hope you enjoyed your stay in the netherlands and come back soon, as you have alot more to see and experience in the netherlands, :)
Thanks, yes, we will make a separate video about that this summe
It's a shirt. (not to confuse with a t-shirt) Blouse is a women's garment.
Haha true
Great info as usual. 👍🏼
I wish we were as punctual as the Dutch.
@@LetsMeetAbroad Thanks for the clarification. 😃👍🏼

haha yes, Thats exactly what Myra thought as well.
Oh yeah, we cant wait for spring and summer. Btw we have planned a mini summer escape in feb :P
@@LetsMeetAbroad yeah I think I thought that bcs I would be like him if I would be distracted and far with my thoughst enjoying the lake. hehe and where it is going to be this mini escape in Feb?? :-)
