Hi! One of the main things for motovloger is audio. I owe and used all 3 previous generations and always had to find the workarounds with the mic connections. Could you share your settings for in helmet setings and what adapter and mic are you using? thanks in advance 🤜🏼🤛🏻
Thanks Sterling. Many of us just want to capture our memories easily for ourselves to relive years later. I've seen you travel large sections of this hemisphere, and film. If this unit is good enough for you for daily use, it is for me. Looking at your kit shown, and gearing up for a fall trip. Ride safe and keep sharing. Cheers from Canada :-)
Interesting going on trail a bike ride to demo review the DJI Action 4. Waiting on mine direct from DJI via UPS. Excited. Informative and entertaining video.
The video looks good and I like to use it as a motorcycle actioncam too. 1. Windnoise canceling is crucial. 2. Intercom use in the video would be great. 3. Exhaust sound in the video would be crucial too. 4. Voice control via intercom would be great. Are these 4 points easy to do??
It looks really good in low light. No overheating like the GoPro. This is why I still use the old 7black. But for 4K I would like a newer model with a longer battery life. What about the focus issues with the Osmo 3? Is the Osmo 4 working well in that respect? Thanks for your impressions, Günter/Nürnberg
Thank you for the review on the DJI Action 4, I have used the Action 1 and the Action 3, and agree the quality of the video is great, but the audio has always been horrible with excessive clipping no matter the microphone used or placement. I noticed the Action 4 now has gone from a negative 12 to a negative 20 maybe they have figured out the sound issues that others and I have had. Thank you again, I'm guessing you were on Mt. Graham in Safford.
4:10 I'm using the DJI Mic 2 and my gain goes only -12 to +12. I see you showing -20 to +30. Do these amounts change based on different mics? I would have thought DJI's own mic would have had the max flexibility.
Great video, with lots of helpful information. What lavalier microphone are you using in your vlog? (Time 00:04:29) Also, what is the total length of the cable? If possible, could you please provide a link? Thanks in advance
Thanks for the video! Do you know if this camera also have the out of focus problem in some units? because i had to return two action 3 cameras for this problem.
I love your videos - they are stress relief for me at the end of a stressful day at work. I find myself watching the PNW series over and over again. :) I have a question for you: you've discussed memory cards and hardware, but I haven't seen you talk about how you manage battery life. I'm about to go on a trip to Ouray, CO and am keen to capture all the great riding there for my own memories. Do you just have a dozen or so battery packs? How does that work?

Hey Sterling - really nice to see a traveller and moto vlogger's perspective of the Action4 which I was missing in all the videos I saw since the launch 2 days back. The variety of scenarios you have covered and the low light performance thanks to the newer sensor is impressive. Would you mind sharing your experience with recording audio directly into the camera through the mic setup you mentioned also probably share some pointers on the adapters that you use to connect lav mics to the Action3/Action4?
Thanks to the great review…mine arrived today 😊..Now off to set it to recommend settings then it’s out with the Multistrada and try my hand at filming my own “Adventures” …. 👍🥃🏴
To me, honestly, the image quality just doesn't match that from GoPro. I know color grading other other post-processing manipulation can make up for a lot of in-camera deficiencies, but these images just don't look as great as what I can get from a Hero11. The low light performance of the Action4's larger sensor is definitely compelling, but I'm not sure the difference is dramatic enough to justify the purchase, especially at the same price point. Also, note that the Hero11's sensor is 1/1.9, not 1/1.7 as mentioned at the 8:26 mark in the video
Yes, I agree that the GoPro is perhaps just marginally better in terms of image quality, but it is very close. It’s the usability that more than makes up for this with the action 4. I feel that it is so much easier to use and it does not have any of the freezing issues that go pros have.
@@SterlingNoren Hm, I haven't encountered any freezing issues with GoPro, but perhaps I've just gotten lucky thus far. Then again, I use at least one GoPro camera almost once a day, and have for years... but I know everyone's experience is different
I have the Action 4 camera and the Purple Panda mic, but even with the adapter and adjusting the gain, the audio quality remains subpar. I've also set the sound to mono using a TRS connection. I'm curious about the microphone you're using; perhaps there's a solution I haven't tried yet.
Thanks for this review Sterling. I use Action 1. It's been a nice camera but with audio problems....it is time to upgrade, I guess.... Your channel cost me a lot of money though 😂😂😂
Thank you for sharing Sterling. Very informative. I've been considering the Insta360 RS ONE as my chin mounted helmet cam but, after watching your video I'm considering the DJI 4 for my trip to Argentina. If anyone who knows cameras and the inventor of Motorcycle Adventure filming its you 😮
I came upon this video as I'm trying to move away from GoPro, tried an Ace Pro and returned it, and just bought this A4. I've been underwhelmed by the video quality especially compared to the other two previously mentioned cameras. I usually just use "auto" and this one hasn't looked good to me. Now playing around with it to determine if I'm going to keep it.
good day, could you please advise me on the settings for the dji osmo action 4 for traveling and riding a motorcycle even on light terrain, I can also set it manually, I would like it to be more colorful. video and I wouldn't have to edit anymore thank you
You might try the normal color profile as opposed to the D log M profile. That way you won’t have to do as much color correcting. Unfortunately, there’s no way to get around the editing.
Nice, and refreshing to see a review that´s not produced by a payed Gopro UI ;-)! Might I humbly suggest that you give the temperature information also i Celsius (can be done as a caption). Makes it easier for us in the rest of the world :-)! The ability to see a preview when recording (something that Gopro has taken away since Hero 9) is another huge advantage for DJI Action cameras. Thank´s for mentioning it!
How well does it work with an external wired mic while riding down the road at highway speeds? My bikes tend to be loud, and even though the lav mic is up inside the helmet, with a dead cat AND a foam cover on it, once I go over 30mph the audio is too loud and gets blown out and distorted. Other cameras have more control on the mic gain, like -18dB on the Insta360 One RS 4K... But the Action 3 did not. It was fine at a stoplight or in the garage, but out riding the road or on a track day, the audio was unusable. And I tried like 8 different wired mics... Have they addressed this and given you more control to reduce the gain for external mics? I don't mind if its quiet, I can boost that in post. But if the audio is clipping and distorted, then there is nothing I can do. I had to leave DJI for that reason.
The Db level now goes down to -20 but I have been just fine with -12 so far. You can hear the audio quality that I am getting with the set up and I showed the cables that I use as well. Hope that helps.
Thanks Sterling, great video to help everyone that's looking for a great camera or everyone that feels they have to buy a GoPro to record good videos. 👍👍

I don’t have any issues with the sound but I know that a lot of people seem to have issues I use the two adapter cables that are shown in the video and I have the dB set to -12.

Great review as ever and certainly looks to be an excellent camera….. I think I remember you saying previously that you’ve found the DJI cameras to be more reliable than the equivalent GoPros am I right??
Yes, that is the main reason that I switched to the DJI brand. I have not had any unreliability issues with that DJI camera compared to the GoPro.
@@SterlingNoren many thanks Sterling 👍 Looking forward to the next instalment of your trip down the coast .. ride safe 😎
I may add a tether, just in case. See you Sunday. Time for Humboldt Co.
Is dji action 4 supports 512gb micro SD card?
I'm sad to see that the sensor wobbling in low light is still present (same as the Osmo Action 3) you need damn high shutter speed to compensate. I was really hoping to see they adressed this.
I’m about to make the switch from GoPro to DJI myself.
I got used GoPro and now I got new osmo action 4 I will compare in my language.
Why until today no action camera manufacturer has released a microphone over wifi or bluetooth?
I know motovlogger and action people need a better way to get audio into our cameras.
Sponsored review, can't trust what you saying
He's Sterling. A literal photographer at his core. 🤷♀️
How much dji paid you for this puff piece?….great camera and I’m gonna buy one, but unfortunately RUclips ain’t much chop anymore for unbiased reviews
A few Moto bloggers , who are not sponsored, are not fond of the DJI. Any way you can share true feelings?
These are my true feelings, I love it and use it.
I’ve just bought this but worried about stone chips my last camera looks like the surface of the moon. So I’ll be riding with it in the water proof case I think 😮😅hahahha
Sold
I'd sell my Insta360 One RS for one of these for sure!
