    Thank you Nick. Mine is the KD55-A1 so a little more involved taking the back off and disconnecting several banks of cables and locating the power block. Not much detail in regards numbering on the plug so came from the right, removed the second wire (white) and popped it into the only blank hole where the grounded (grey) wires. Reassembled and crossed fingers. No explosion, hard reset.....seems to be working perfectly!

      Wow that is surprising. This is not supposed to work for other sets as the way LEDs fail typically means they actually failed. WIth this unit because they used a different type of led system that is very sensitive, the fault code would get triggered even though the LEDs still had plenty of life left in them.

      @@NicksTVRepair it’s been on for about an hour; hasn’t switched itself off and no four red flashes. I literally have winged it if it isn’t supposed to work! The power pack is covered by another metal plate which I had to unscrew, rotate 90 degrees, pull out a bank of plugs to do the final turn. Small bank of wires with only one blank space in the grey wire section. I just thought, what’s the worst thing that could happen! 😂 I’ll let you know if it fails 👍
      PS. It was start in there so blasted it with a can of compressed air too.

      It is very easy to miss a connector or ribbon plug, or even to not have missed one, but a ribbon is not plugged in exactly perfectly. Double check all your cable connections, disconnect and reconnect them, same with the ribbons, and try again. Some of these are sensitive, so that may be all you need to fix the issue.
      There is no reason for there to be no picture after replacing the backlight unless either one of the connectors isin't properly inserted, or there is infomration missing.
      Did you turn the TV on while the screen was removed and disconnected from the T-con and mainboard for example? If so the panel could no longer be paired with the T-con and mainboard and may need to be paired again.
      If that is the case, then check the video linked below:

    Hi, Would a Sony kd70x690e that has the LED light at bottom blinking 6 times be fixed the same way as the video ??? Also, I assume you're connecting the Negative/Black lead of the meter to the Chassis/ground of the TV ? Thank you.

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  Год назад

      No and yes.
      No in the sense that doing this won't fix your TV because your TV is a backlit tv whereas this one in the video is edglit and fails very differently. This trick really only works for this model only. You can still short out your BL-ERR to ground and it will prevent the 6 blinks from coming up and the set from shutting down but if your LEDs are bad, either the LEDs won't light up at all or you will have a dark spot on the screen.
      For your TV set, you will want to replace the LED strips to fix the set.
      As for the Negative lead, you can use the chassis ground if you would like yes, that works.

      I have to say I have never heard of this before, I am not sure I know what could be causing this. You could have a screen failure, a T-con board failure, or a mainboard failure. Unfortunately without having access to the TV, I don't know that I would be able to assist further.
      What I can tell you is that replacing the T-con board would be the cheapest option. Then the mainboard, but unfortunately the screen is not worth replacing.
      If you do try replacing the T-con and mainboard, I suggest purchasing from a seller that would allow returns.

      I ran into that problem with the 900e ONCE where it turned out the tv was doing a software update and something happened according to the customer. And started giving the error code for issue with inverter or LED. Turns out that the software got corrupted during the update and was making the main board give false codes. TV would turn on for 10 to 12 seconds sometimes show the Sony logo then shut down. The fix was a hard reset. Unplug tv hold power power button on front of tv while pluging in power cord and wait til tv turns on then release power button. Which in this RARE case fixed the tv. Like I said rare. Seems these newer android/Google Sonys have a lot of software issues. It was a nice cheap fix for the customer.

    I have the XBR-65X900A, the TV turns off but it could take a few hours or just maybe a few minutes and then I get the 4 blinking lights. I got into the error code screen and I see there are 30 errors for the VLED and 4 for the LD_ERR. Also, when watching a 3D movie, within minutes the picture starts turning dark and the TV turns OFF. My service manual shows the BL_ERR and the LD_ERR pins on the CN6602 connector (MAIN POWER AND CONVERTER BOARD) and CN6402 (PFC, PRI_VCC AND STANDBY POWER SUPPLY). But your video talks about grounding the BL_ERR on the MAIN BOARD. In my case it is CN9101 PIN 20. I already tried grounding BL_ERR on connector CN6602 and that just will make the TV turn OFF as soon as you turn it on. My question is, do I ground the BL_ERR on CN9101 (MAIN BOARD - BAFS)?

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  2 года назад

      Your TV set is different than the ones I am going over in the video so it is likely that you will need to do something differently to make it work on your set.
      If you are grounding the BL-ERR pin and it makes the TV turn off, something was not done properly. Grounding the BL-ERR pin should not cause the set to shut off regardless of which connector it is done on.
      As well if this is an issue that takes a few hours before it comes up, you may not need to ground the BL-ERR pin, and instead only need to turn down the backlight in the setting on your TV to resolve the issue. Not the brightness, but the backlight. This should be found under your picture settings, sometimes hidden in the advanced picture settings.

Here is a link to the block diagram of the boards and pins from the service manual. I tried grounding the BL_ERR on the CN6602 board but that will not make the TV stay on. In your video you say to ground the BL_ERR on the Main Board, I have not tried that because on your video it shows you grounded BL_ERR on the CN6602 board, but that is not the main board. Thanks a lot for the video! I have a similar model with the same problem. Do you know if there are some long term effects for the LED driver or power supply? Like burning a transistor or other component from too much current demand. Or will the LED strip fail before them? Thanks :)

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  Год назад +3

      NO it will not damage any other components.
      There is no excessive current demand and doing this will not trigger any additional current demand from the LED strips. If anything the LEDs are not demanding enough current. When the LEDs go over the edge what will commonly happen is you get strobing from the LEDs. There won't be any long term effects possible as this is not a long term fix, what you are doing here is borrowing time before having to replace the LED strips. This video was put out because no replacement LED strips were available at the time.
      However replacement LEDs have been manufactured recently and are now available. I have a video you can watch that is linked at the end of this video that shows the replacement process of the LED strips.

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  Год назад

      If this is happening then you are not doing it right. Either you are not locating the correct BL-ERR pin or you are counting from the Top VS bottom for pin 8 and maybe you are grounding out a 12 line. Even pins are on the row located further away from the circuit board and the odd ones are located closest to the board. If you have the TV standing up with the back cover removed and you are looking at the power supply in the set pin 1 and 2 are at the top. So looking at the left side of the connector count down 4 rows for pin 8. If this doesn't make 110% sense, then don't do it as you may just damage your set further. Maybe email me a picture of what you are doing with arrows or circles or even a short video to the email in the video description.
      I would say to do the proper repair which is to replace the LED but you also run the risk of cracking the screen, so just be aware you are doing this at your own risk.

      I don't know the pin out for your TV set since the power supply doesn't have it labeled. Even if it was properly labeled I don't think it would work that well. This model in the video has edge lit strips that can throw this error even when they aren't bad or if they are on their way but still work. This trick doesn't work that well for other models.
      This model has very hard to obtain LED strips and they are very expensive if you are able to find them. For your set however the LED's are readily available.
      I recommend you get the LED's replaced.

    Ive accessed the service mode & it showed some codes on backlight error. Pressing 8 & 0 wld make the error codes go away and the flashes comes back again a few days later.
    My question is can your method work on my OLED Tv? I just want the red flashes to go away for good. Changing the whole screen panel is not an option because of the high price. did it work? This fix is not supposed to work for any other TV's other than the 900C.
      For the other TVs it will stop the error code from triggering but the backlight fault will still be present. The reason it works with this model however is because it seems this model triggers that fault even if the fault is not truly present. As if it is hyper sensitive.

    Hey Nick! First off, thank you for these type of explanations. Right to repair or extend the life of electronics should always be made available for the masses so I appreciate your tutorials here. I have an XBR-65X800G model with 6 red blinks appearing. I called the closest Sony authorized repair dealer and was told that it's a panel failure, of which, Sony no longer manufactures the necessary part. Would this tutorial help resurrect my television the same way as the X900C? Also, by panel, do they mean the LEDs or is there another component added to this model that older models do not have? Trying to gauge if this is truly a goner in repair or some life left in it. Thanks a ton!

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  Год назад +1

      Literally,
      You can give it a try but I don't think it will work because those strips fail differently. When someone says failed panel that can be a failure of the screen, or the backlight. Both are included in the panel. Sony does not do LED replacements, however you can get replacements from third party manufacturers. I would recommend going to shopjimmy.com they have tons of replacement LED strips available and I bet they have some for your model as well. They also are on RUclips and show how to do the installs. I recommend them highly.

    Question: my XBR-65X850D had the six red blinks show up. The tv went blank and I powered it down. Then I powered it back up and the TV was fine for a few hours. Then it did the same blink and turned off.
    So I did this fix, which bypasses they error. But it doesn’t bypass the left side of the screen and that side goes blank. The right side stays lit up.
    So I then went into the TVs settings and turned down the brightness to like 5. And I turned the black to like 2. Now both sides of my tv work fine. Neither side goes black.
    So question! 😁 what could be my next move here. I want to point out that on the powerboard, there are two sets of four small squares located where the backlight wiring connects to the powerboard. On the board and at the location of two of the squares the board looks a little burnt. Let’s say more brownish than around the other black squares.

Currently we are only able to find the occasional used strip on eBay for about $100 per strip, but you will want to replace all 3 strips when you do this if you can. Only problem is that the strips at $100 a piece are used, not new, so you never know what you might get. If you can, I recommend just reflowing the strips as the LED's themselves rarely go out, instead the solder joints crack and cause the failure.

      That was my last comment and I urge you to read it again. So it 100% makes sense that this didn't work for you. Because you don't have the 900C model. Your 4-blink code is not a panel fault, it's an LED failure. You can't fix the LEDs with this because again you don't have a 900C model TV.
      So to fix it you have to replace your LED strips. Also, you need to make sure you talk to a new tech, who ever told you that a 4-blink code is a screen fault based on your model number has no idea what they are talking about or they were not provided the correct details.

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  3 года назад

      You may not have a separate LED driver board but you still have an LED driver circuit which most likely is built into your power supply. So what that means is that one of the connectors on the power supply will still have a BL_ERR pin which will need to be shorted to ground. You will need to look at the legend carefully on your board, and identify the correct wire. Once you have done so you can follow the same steps and ground it out.
      This may not always work, if the error code is no longer there but you don't have any picture on screen, it could be due to the backlights having failed in a way that requires them to be replaced. This trick usually works with edge lit tvs more so than back lite tvs.

      6 blinks is an issue related to backlight failure. If you are to properly get the set fixed you need to replace the backlight. This is something I recommend bringing in to a shop for repair.
      However you may be able to squeeze a bit more life out of the set simply by turning down the backlight setting on your TV set.
      Go into the picture menu and find the backlight setting. It might be under advanced settings if you don't see it regular picture menu. Turn that down a bit and that should avoid triggering the blink code.

      Maybe, but probably not. You would have to give it a try to know for sure but I have a feeling you will need to do a full LED strip replacement. The reason this is more viable with this set is because it is edge lit, and no LED strips were available at the time.
      If you can change out the strips, then I recommend doing so as it is the better way and correct way to fix your set.

      No unfortunately this is very specific to this model TV. You can try with the 900E but I don't think it will work.

Hard reset fixed that tv. But that was a rare case. But it was a cheap fix for the customer. The newer Sonys been having software issue when updating sometimes.

      What I am doing with the 2015 Sony 900C model is only for the 2015 900C models. You do not have a 900C model and thus this won't work for it.
      As for the catching the TV on fire, yeah that is entirely possible because you don't have the 900C model. But also it's extremely unlikely.
      But more importantly there is no reason to do this because it won't work for your set, you need to replace the LED strips, that is the only way you will fix your TV.

      Yes this will also work on the model, however since the power supply board is a bit different, instead of removing the BL-ERR pin 2 and grounding it to pin 9 your model will have BL-ERR as pin number 8 and the ground pin that's best to use would be 22. I believe both will be on the top row, BL_ERR as the 4th pin on the top row when counting from the top of the connector down and the grounding pin will also be the top row and pin 11 if you count straight down. I hope I am not being confsuing when stating they are pin 8 and 22 but then stating they are pin 4 and 11. I am saying 4 and 11 if we exclude the bottom row and you just count down the top row.
